Calrec Audio introduce a brand new management system for its groundbreaking Hydra2 network router at the IBC 2010 in Amsterdam (stand 8.C58)

TheHydra2Organizer,orH2O,allowstheusertocontroltheHydra2networkindependentlyfromanyBluefin2consolecontrolsurface.Usersareabletosetuproutesandconfigureaccessrightstoalldesksonagivennetwork,aswellaslabelI/Oboxesandportsforeaseofidentification.H2Oalsoofferstheabilitytoarrangeportsintofoldersmakingthemquickerandeasiertolocate.

Browserbased,H2Oallowsnetworkaccessfromalaptoporpc,andiscompatiblewithWindows,LinuxorOSX.

“OurnewH2OcontrolsystemfurtherintegratesHydra2intoanymulticonsoleinstallation,”saysHenryGoodman,HeadofSalesandMarketingatCalrec.“Itsuserfriendlyinterfaceworksindependentlyoftheconsoleandpermitsdifferentlevelsofuseraccesstobegrantedtodifferentpersonnel.Thisgivesourcustomersmorecontrolandflexibility.”

H2OisespeciallyadvantageousforCalrec’sclientswhoownlarge,multiple-studiocomplexeswhichmayberentedtorivalcompaniesatdifferenttimes.Forexample,ifclientAisworkingintwostudios,thefacilityownermustbeabletoguaranteethatitisimpossibleforthebroadcastertoobtainnetworkaccesstoathirdstudiowhereclientBmightbeworkingatthesametime.

UsingaccessrightsitisnowpossibletorenderthethirdstudiocompletelyinvisibletousersinthetwostudiosrentedtoclientAandviceversa.Thisgivesthecustomertheflexibilitytoutilizetheirnetworkinamannertheycouldnotpreviouslyusingasingleoperatingsystem.

NCP adds eighth Calrec console to its fleet InNCPV,aSigmaconsoleistheheartofaninnovativeMADIandHydraaudionetwork-basedfiberinfrastructure.

NewCenturyProductions(NCP)willrelyonaSigmawithBluefinonitsNCPVtruck,currentlybeingrebuiltfromthewheelsup.NCPisusingfibertoeliminateabout1,000poundsofcoppercableandpatchbaysandenabletherefurbishedHDtruck,NCPV,torunwithoutaBunit.NCPVwillutilizebothMADIandCalrec’sHydranetworkingtomakeI/Oconnectivitybothsimpleandfast.

UsingMADIinternallyenablesustoeliminatesome1,536cablesandanequalnumberofpatchpoints,reducingweightandbulkandsimplifyingoperations,”saidMikeMundt,NCPdirectorofengineering.“TheSigmaconsoledisplaysaninputandoutputpageforMADI,makingwhatwereoncepatchpointsaccessibleonacomputerscreen.Asaresult,setupscanbesavedandrecalledforrecurringshows,whichfurthersavestime.NCPhasalong-standingrelationshipwithCalrec;wepurchasedourfirstQ2in1998.ThemixingdeskonthistruckisNCP’seighthCalrecconsole.Wehavefoundthemtobeunmatchedforqualityandreliability,essentialconsiderationsinmobiletelevision.”

NCPVisa53-footexpandotrailerdesignedforhardworking,set-shoot-strikeoperation.EquippedwiththenewCalrecaudioconsole,plusnewmonitoringandinfrastructure,thetruck’sprincipalmissionwillbetocoverboxingforShowtime.

Thetruck’sCalrecHydraaudionetworkingsystemwilluseredundantgigabitEthernetfibertobringsignalsintothe64-faderSigmamixerfromringsidewhilealsosendingeightoutputsbackformonitoring.

NCPisafull-serviceproductioncompany,providingfacilitiesandequipmentforlivebroadcastsofanyandalldescription,aswellastaped,live-to-tape,andpost-producedevents.NCP’struckshavebeenusedtotelevizeabsolutelyeverything,fromindustrialandcorporateclosed-circuiteventstonationwidebroadcastsofsports,concerts,musicvideos,gameshows,newseventsandpolitics.

Calrec kick off Premier League with a hat-trick IMG,theworld’spremiersports,entertainmentandmediacompany,hasorderedtwoCalrecOmegaconsolestomixaudiooncoverageofPremierLeaguegames,whichIMGhasthecontracttodistributeinternationally.AthirdOmegaconsolewillhandleaudioonthePremierLeague’snew24-hourHDfootballcontentservice.AllthreedesksareinstalledatIMG’sstudiosinChiswick,WestLondon;thefirsttwo(32-fader)desksaredestinedtomixaudiooncoverageofPremiershipfootballmatches.Thethirdconsole,a40-faderOmega,willseeuseonthePremierLeague’snew24-hourhigh-definitioncontentservice,whichIMGisagaintransmittingonbehalfoftheLeagueandwhichlaunchesinAugust.Wehadtobuyanaudioconsoleforthenewchannel,asthatincludessurroundsoundcontent,andwetooktheopportunitytoreplacetheconsolesthatlookafterthecoredistributioncontract,”explainsRichardAllingham,IMG’sChiefEngineerintheUK.Wehadthreeotherdesksinfortrials,butintheendwesettledontheCalrecOmegasveryquickly,byaskingouraudioengineerswhichonestheywouldfindeasiesttouse—andtheCalrecswonthevote.I’mverypleased,asI’vealwaysfoundCalrec’sconsolesuser-friendlyandtheirengineeringtoaveryhighstandard.”

Apollo goes live in Japan JapanesebroadcasterMBSpurchasedtheworld’sfirstCalrecApollodeskforoutsidebroadcastuseinFebruary2010,andithasnowprovidedsixmonthsofuninterruptedserviceinMBS’srecentlyrefurbishedradiotruck.

The56-faderApolloconsole,whichreplacedanolderdesk,wasorderedaspartofarefitofMBS’saudioOBvehicle,carriedoutbyMBSwithaneyeonfuture-proofingthevehicleforsurroundsoundtransmission.
