Deepwater Horizon oil spill of 2010April 20, 2010 - a surge of natural gas

blasted through a concrete core that they

had previously installed in order to seal

the well for later use. The natural gas

travelled up the oil rig riser where it

ignited and killed 11 people.

The oil rig capsized and sank on

April 22nd. The riser snapped and oil

began to spill into the Gulf.

The spill wasn’t capped until July 12
