Space Invaders 1-How do the earth, sun, and moon interact as a system causing seasons,

moon phases, eclipses and tides?

Eclipse

The partial or total blocking of light of one celestial object by another.

Tides The regular rising and falling of Earth’s surface waters twice a tidal day as a result of the Moon’s and Sun’s gravitational attraction.

Waxing Increasing

Equator An imaginary line forming a great circle around the Earth’s surface that divides Earth into northern and southern hemispheres

RotationThe motion of an object around an internal axis

Equinox

When sunlight shines equally on the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere; a time of year when daylight and darkness are nearly equal for most of Earth

PhasesAny of the forms, recurring in cycles, in which the moon or a planet appears in the sky.

Revolution The motion of an object around a point, especially around another object or a center of mass.

Waning Decreasing

Solstice When one hemisphere gets its maximum area of sunlight, while the other hemisphere gets its minimum amount; the time of year when days are either longest or shortest, and the angle of sunlight reaches its maximum or minimum

SeasonsA period of an object around an internal axis

HemisphereEither the northern or southern half of the Earth as divided by the equator, or the eastern or western half as divided by a meridian, especially the prime meridian
