Do what you're good at, or...get really good at what you do.

Shallow Work < Deep Work

There's no shortage of tips about what brings happiness, but what gives your life meaning?

The Rules

• Only use what you like

• If it takes too long for you to learn, then screw it.

Paradox of Buridan’s Ass

“If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room. ” — Kare Anderson

The System

To avoid problems like this!

Mornings are the most powerful productivity tool.

It is okay to be bored

Avoid To Do List, create a schedule

If you can’t fit it in within 30 days, it is not important

Most suffering comes from focusing on me, the self

If you having trouble making yourself happy, then make someone else happy. So cliche yet pragmatic.

Go first

Be the first to smile, to say hello, to open the door, etc.

Choose only 1 location (app, notebook, spot on wall, sticky note, etc.) to serve as your project home and collect the items there. No more than 3 at a time!

Do Not

• Multitask

• Make important decisions when fatigued or in a bad mood

• Try to do meaningful work in chunks of time under 30 minutes

• Lose sight of what is most important in life

• Spend all your time working

• Eat garbage food

• Create To Do Lists

Answer these questions

1. What are YOUR priorities?2. What are two most important things you want to

get done tomorrow?3. What provides value in your life?4. Where should you invest your energy?

Shhh!

Phone

I’m sorry I didn’t answer my phone when you called me.

I don’t use it for that.

Let the computer help you out!

Focuster

prioritize your day by syncing your to-do list with how much free time you actually

have

Internet

• Try to only have one browser tab open(my biggest struggle)

• Try not to check email 20 times an hour. Close it out and do work.

• Ditto for phone alerts• Are you distracted

now?

Do you have app notifications turn on?

Does it also vibrate?

Consider turning them off.

Completely…..except maybe family messages

Live asynchronously sometimes

Rubber Duck Test ○ A coder technique. When

something is not working and you are getting frustrated here is a tip to make things work. Go ahead and grab a rubber duck. Seriously!

○ Here is what you do next. Talk to your duck. Explain each step one by one. Make the duck understand. When you do this I bet you will find the error of your ways. Great tip for students as well.
