Marine Science Summer Camp at the Jersey Shore focuses on environmental awareness and to educate
children on the preservation of the marine eco system through active hands on learning. Interns will
work with camper’s grades k-8th, on seining, sieving, plant and animal identification, water quality
sampling, crabbing, fishing, tidal charts and kayaking skills; all with an emphasis on environmental
awareness. Interns must be reliable, bright, energetic and happy to work with children. The Interns will
gain hands on experience at a variety of different camp locations which include: ocean, bay, estuarine,
river and lake habitats. All locations headed up by a degree marine scientist and environmentalist. All
camp locations participate in our lecture series in which a scientist visits each camp location discussing a
relevant scientific topic. Interns get a lot of “hands on field” experience while working with children and
exposed to a variety of different curriculum. This is not a paid position but will work to set up credits for
this experience. Many of our Interns have earned the opportunity to become a paid employee with us.
Majority of our interns come back every summer to volunteer or are offered a paid position. Marine
Science Camp is a one week camp that attendees sign up for, Monday – Friday, 9am-2pm. Some of our
locations run for entire summer and other locations are for a few weeks. Interns have the opportunity
