Summer Sermon Series Be the Church!
Today we continue our 2019 Summer Sermon Series, Be the Church! As the lectionary readings leading up to Easter, and through Eastertide, focused on John’s Gospel, we now shift to the Gospel of Luke, where the readings over these next few weeks focus on Jesus’ teachings to his disciples about what it means to be a disciple – what it means to be “the church.” What we will notice together in this 7-week journey, is that Jesus calls us to go, do, and be his church in our communities and in the world. * Call to Worship (responsively) Come now and let us bless the Lord, in whom we find our refuge and safety. You are our God; all good things come from you alone. Come now and let us bless the Lord, who gives us a rich inheritance, and surrounds us with abundance. You are our God; our lives are in your hands. Come now and let us bless the Lord, who guides us on the path to eternal life, whose presence strengthens and sustains us. You are our God; we will not be shaken. With gratitude we come now to worship you!
*Hymn How Great Is Our God (screen)
Prayer of Approach (in unison) Living God, as we gather to worship you this morning, come and make our souls the temple of your Spirit. Continue to fully baptize your Church with fire, so that its divisions may soon end and that it may be built up in the world as a pillar that supports your truth. Grant each of us the fruits of your Holy Spirit: brotherly and sisterly love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness. May your Holy Spirit speak through the lips of your servants in this place and through-out the world. Sanctify us Lord. Amen.
