High Energy: Coaches and camp coun-
selors are engaged, vocal, and constantly
moving to help create a high energy at-
mosphere that is integral for improvement
and development. Campers will learn the
skills and fundamentals of the game by
the same methods that have produced
back-to-back Catholic League Blue Cham-
pionships and over 250 wins the past 9
seasons.
High School Coaches & St. Laurence Alums (Collegiate Players) Instruct-
ing: One of the unique features of St. Laurence Baseball camps are the base-
ball alums and current collegiate players that work the camps. Often times at
camps, you’ll see the high school coaches delegating instructional responsibili-
ties to their current players as they sit back and observe the show. You won’t
find that here as every coach will be active and providing individualized on-field
instruction with high energy and positivity.
Skill Development: Have you been to a camp that gives a half-hearted attempt
to teach skills, only to just divide the kids up and the teams play? We have too.
Each day at each camp at St. Laurence will be action packed with skill develop-
ment in both large group instruction and station work. Additionally, there will be
a specific “Skill of the Day” that will be given special attention throughout instruc-
tional drills and game play. That is why we offer 3 camps, each camp is broken
down into fundamental skills needed to be the best baseball player.
Competitive Fun: Nothing screams fun like competition. Each day will include
a variety of smaller competitions including: hitter of the day, infielder of the day,
outfielder of the day, While we want campers to understand the importance of
working hard to improve, we also want to help grow their love for the game and
Positive Incentives: Effort and hustle do not take talent. One of the values
that we want to instill in each camper is a what we like to call a “Viking
Warrior” mentality. Diving for ground balls, taking extra bases, and getting
down bunts are just a few of things that we believe must be rewarded.
Campers that exhibit these “Viking Warrior” characteristics will be rewarded.
We’ve found that nothing motivates campers on a hot summer day like ice
cold Gatorades.
VIKING COACHES

Matt McHugh, Varsity Catching & Hitting
Coach enters his 5th season with the Vi-
kings. Coach McHugh’s daily work and prep-
aration with the catchers has already pro-
duced catchers at various colleges. Coach
McHugh’s persistence and dedication have
been instrumental in not only our catchers,
but all of the success and development en-
joyed by our pitchers.
Adam Lotus, Varsity Pitching Coach, enters
his 10th season at St. Laurence. Adam gradu-
ated from St. Laurence in 2001 and went on to
play 4 years at Dominican University. He has
produced numerous collegiate pitchers, many
of whom go on to the Division I level. Coach
Lotus’ pitching staff was one of the best in the
state last year, producing eye-popping num-
bers while playing one of the toughest sched-
ules in the state. In addition to coaching base-
ball, he is currently the Director of Alumni and
Assistant Recruiter.
Pete Lotus enters his tenth season as the Viking’s head
coach with an impressive record of 250–77. In his first 9
seasons, Lotus and his staff have turned St. Laurence into
one of the state’s elite programs, consistently being ranked
in the top ten in the state of Illinois. The Vikings have cap-
tured seven Chicago Catholic League Championships and
seven IHSA Regional Championships in Lotus’ nine sea-
sons. Lotus has sent 51 players on to college programs,
including 21 at the Division I level. Lotus’ teams have aver-
aged 29 wins a year and have produced 44 1st or 2nd
team All-Area and 11 All-State players in just 9 years. In
2013, the baseball program produced 2 Louisville Slugger
All-Americans. Last year’s team won 32 games and cap-
tured the prestigious Chicago Catholic League’s Blue Divi-
sion and the school’s 12th IHSA Regional title. The 2014
Viking’s produced two All-State players, and senior Mike
Kornacker was selected as the “Player of the Year” in the
Chicago Catholic League. Coach Lotus was recognized as
the 2014 “High School Coach of The Year”, his second in
his tenure. Lotus also has garnered an unprecedented 4
Anthony Lawless Catholic League Coach of the Year

“My experience at St. Laurence is hard to put into words.
It is a time in my life that I will never forget and will always
cherish. I thoroughly enjoyed going to practice every day
because I knew I was going to get better. The high intensi-
ty practices that we were put through not only gave us the
opportunity to get better, they made you better, and I loved
being a part of them. Every game felt like a championship
game because of the high level of competition that we
faced. The atmosphere of St. L baseball is unlike any oth-
er. Playing for Coach Pete and Coach Adam was the best
decision I ever made. They have such a passion for the
game and care so much about getting each and every
player they coach better. As long as you put in the work,
you will get better. Playing for St. Laurence allowed me to
develop a new passion for the game of baseball. I have
never experienced anything like it before. It is truly some-
thing special and memorable in my life. If I could play at
St. Laurence for another 10 years I would.”
“St. Laurence was such a special experience for me and my
family. Before I came to St. Laurence, people talked about
the family atmosphere. Right when I first stepped foot in St.
Laurence I felt what people were talking about. I immediately
felt comfortable and accepted. By the time I left, I felt like I
had a new set of brothers. This was even more evident
when being part of the baseball program. The coaches care
and build relationships with each and every one of their play-
ers. They push and challenge everyone to be the best that
they can be both on the field and in the classroom. The at-
mosphere created at practices and games was unlike any-
thing that I had experienced before. It really brought out my
ability to compete and push myself to be the best I could be.
My experience at St. Laurence has definitely prepared for me
for my college experience. I feel like I can go in and compete
both academically and on the baseball field because of this
experience and it is one that I will never forget.”

CAMP AWARDS
The following awards will be given out at the end of each camp:
Session I: Hitting Camp
“The Silver Slugger Award”: Given out to the camp’s best hitter both in drills and game play.
It’s not enough just to be a home run hitter, but winning this prestigious honor requires a
camper who can understand how to hit in all situations.
“The Big Stick Award”: Given out to the camper that can hit the ball the furthest. The winner
of this award will go to the home run derby winner.
Session II: Fielding Camp
“Gold Glove Award”: Given out to the camp’s best fielder in drills and game play, the winner
of this award makes the routine plays and the plays that most do not make.
“The Viking Warrior Award”: The most prestigious award in all of our baseball camps. The
winner of this award hustles to every spot, dives all over the place, blocks balls with any
body part, and simply outworks their opponents. The player who wins this award will have
definitely earned it as all of camp will be vying for the right to call themselves the ultimate
“Viking Warrior.”
Session III: Pitching & Catching Camp
“The Flame Thrower Award” : Given out to the camp’s hardest thrower. All campers will be
radar gunned each day during a portion of camp and the highest average velocity will win
the award.
“The Greg Maddux Award“: Given out to the camper that displays the best control through-
out the week. More important than velocity, the ability to display control is what makes pitch-
ers great. A portion of camp each day will be dedicated to developed skills to repeat hitting
spots with all pitches.
“The Carlton Fisk” Award” : Coach Lotus’ favorite all-time player. This award is given to the
catcher in camp that displays the toughness and physical ability to be the best leader and
catcher on the field.
