Standard 3Alden and Quasia

Photosynthesis

6H2O + 6CO2 C6H12O6 + 6O2

What is Photosynthesis?

Formula:

(reactant product)

Function:

It is basically a way for plants to get food and energy. It converts carbon dioxide into organic compounds, like sugars, using energy from the sun. Takes place in chloroplasts.

To make food or sugars for the plant.

6H2O + 6CO2 C6H12O6 + 6O2

• 6 molecules of water+6 molecules of carbon dioxide = 1 molecule of sugar+6 molecules of oxygen.

• Photosynthesize more in the summer because of the heat.

• Photosynthesis is affected by temperature, light intensity, light wavelength, and carbon dioxide level.

• Photosynthesis makes oxygen for us to breath.• Photo means light ;synthesis means putting

together

Cellular Respiration

C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O

What is Cellular Respiration?

Formula:(reactant product)

Cellular Respiration uses oxygen takes the glucose, breaks it down, and makes carbon dioxide and H2O.

To exchange carbon dioxide and oxygen inside the cells of the body.

Function:

C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O• 1 molecule of sugar+ 6 molecules of oxygen=6 molecules of

Carbon dioxide+6 molecules of water

• Cell respiration causes ATP (adenosine triphosphate) usable form of energy produced by respiration.

• Contains same energy as coal,

• Cells use it as a energy to transport any thing(s) our body may need.

• Ex. We breath in oxygen & exhale carbon dioxide.

The citric acid cycle, electron transport train, photosynthesis, and oxidative phosphorylation occur in the mitochondria.

The Relation between Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

Questions Anyone

What factor does NOT affect the process of photosynthesis?

A. Light intensity

B. Water availability

C. Nitrogen concentration

D. Temperature fluctuation

*C. Nitrogen

ConcentrationBecause Nitrogen is not in the formula of 6H2O +

6CO2 C6H12O6 + 6O2 for photosynthesis

6H2O + 6CO2 + 6O2

Which product is missing from the equation?

A. Sugar

B. Water

C. Carbon

D. Hydrogen

?

*A. SugarThe formula for Photosynthesis is 6H2O + 6CO2 C6H12O6 + 6O2 and C6H12O6 =

glucose or sugar.

Cellular respiration is a chemical process and can be represented by a chemical equation. What are the products in this

chemical process?

A. Hydrocarbons and oxygen

B. Hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide

C. Water, carbon dioxide, and energy

D. Water, carbon dioxide and oxygen

*C. Water, carbon dioxide, and

energyBecause of the cellular respiration equation

C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O

What is the primary purpose of cellular respiration?

A. To store chemical energy in glucose molecules

B. To store chemical energy in carbon dioxide and water molecules

C. To use chemical energy from glucose molecules

D. To use chemical energy from carbon dioxide and water molecules

*C. To use chemical energy

from glucose molecules

Because cellular respiration is a chemical process that converts sugar into energy.

Which equation shows the reactant and products of cellular respiration?

A. Carbon dioxide + water sugar + oxygen

B. Carbon dioxide + oxygen sugar + water

C. Sugar + carbon dioxide water + oxygen

D. Sugar + oxygen water + carbon dioxide

* D. Sugar + oxygen water + carbon

dioxide C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O

Because…

C6H12O6= sugar6O2= oxygen

6CO2= carbon dioxide6H2O= water

Which two substances are products of cellular respiration?

A. glucose and water

B. glucose and oxygen

C. carbon dioxide and water

D. carbon dioxide and oxygen

*C. Carbon dioxide and water

Because in the formula carbon dioxide

And water are the reactants.

Cellular respiration is the process by which cells convert the energy available in food to which energy compound?

A. APP

B. Glucose

C. Water

D. ATP

E. oxygen

*D. ATPThat’s the definition.

Which of the following process do NOT occur in the mitochondria?

A. Glycolysis

B. The citric acid cycle

C. Electron transport chain

D. Photosynthesis

E. Oxidative phosphorylation

*A. GlycolysisOccurs in Ctytosol

ATP contains the same energy as what?

A. Coal

B. Photosynthesis

C. Mineral

D. water

*A. CoalBecause it gives off the same energy in

comparison to cell transport.

C6H12O6 + 6O2 6CO2 + 6H2O

Which formula is this?

A. Photosynthesis

B. Cellular respiration

C. Water

D. Sugar

*B. Cellular Respiration

Because Cellular Respiration converts oxygen to carbon dioxide.
