Application/ Connection:Lives of Stars Poster
Imagine you are a star and create a poster and describe
the journey of your life. You can be creative, but it must include facts of a stars
life. This is a project grade!!!
Due by Friday 1/23/15
Exit: Looking at the picture below, explain what the spectrum is telling us about the universe.
January 16, 2015AGENDA
Objective 8.8C
Describe components of the universe, including stars, nebulae, and
galaxies, and use models such as the Herztsprung-Russell
diagram for classification by
taking notes and a poster.

Table of Contents
• How long a star lives depends on how much mass it began with.
• Small stars use their fuel slower than large stars so they live longer.

Stage 1: Nebula• Stars begin
their lives in an area called a nebula.
• A nebula is a large amount of gas and dust spread out in a immense volume.
Stage 2:Protostar • the early stage of
a stars life.• cloud of dust and
gas is then clumped together by nuclear fusion to form what is called a protostar.
Step 3: Main Sequence Stars
•moves into the main sequence.•becomes a medium size star• spends most of its life. •All other stars are measured in comparison to Sun.
• As stars burn out of Hydrogen gas they move up and to the right.
• they become giants, and supergiants. • Stars are burning Helium now.
Stage 4: Giant and Supergiants
Stage 5: White and Black Dwarf• When a Red
giant starts to run out of fuel, it moves into the death stages.
• A white dwarf-is the blue-white hot core of a dead red giant. These are low mass stars.
Sirius B is a White Dwarf
Sirius A is a Main Sequence Star
OR Stage 5: Neutron• It may also become:
–A neutron star-formed from a supernova (the explosion of a Super giant). This is a high mass star.
OR Stage 5: Black Hole• OR It may become :
A Black Hole- a core of a super massive star that remains after a supernova. The gravity of this mass is so strong that not even light can escape it.
Supernova Black Hole
• Imagine you are a star and describe the journey of your life.
• You can be creative, but it must include facts of a stars life.
• Must include pictures and be colorful!!!
• This is a project grade!!!• Due Friday 1/23/15
