The Queens Award is a noble award , which boys should take a pride
in. You are required to work hard over a minimum of 1 year,
preferably 2, and complete a minimum of at least 30 hours activity
in each service aspect: Company/Church Responsible Role and
Voluntary Service or Support to Others. You are also required to
attend a skills based course as well as a Completion Residential. The
Completion Residential is the final stage of the award and is
required to be a residential course so that staff can see your full
potential, it is an enjoyable weekend for both yourself and staff if
the correct effort is put in. Please use this guide to complete the
record book thoroughly and make sure everything is signed off
where needed.
Take pride in yourself when doing your award, it is a great
achievement , which will hold you in good stead for life.
This step-by-step guide has been compiled by a previous Queen’s
Badge Candidate and is designed to help you understand exactly
what is required to be included in each page of your record book.

As part of your Queen’s Badge award you are required to
carry two of the following: skill, physical or expedition
(please note you only need to do two of these and it is up to you
and your mentor what two you carry out, if you wish to carry out all
3 that is fine but no extra merit will be given for this).
If doing a skill & physical 1 must be for at least 6 months the other
for 3 months. Where one is chosen together with expedition then
participation should be for a minimum of 6 months.
Page 24 focuses on the skill element of the course if you plan to
carry out the skill section you must say what skill you will be
carrying out and what you hope to achieve from this skill. Some
examples of skills are given on page 23.

Pages 27-28 focuses on the expedition/exploration part of the
award. An expedition doesn’t simply have to be a hike; an
expedition can also include things like cycling, canoeing and horse
riding. There are some rules for carrying out an expedition and
these can be found on page 27 of your Record Book.
On page 27 you must provide the date, location and also who you
intend doing your practice expedition with. On page 28 you are
required to provide the same information but for your qualifying
expedition also include a brief summary of what you hope to
achieve.

carried out on each day you volunteered as well as including how
many hours you did, this all has to be signed off by your supervisor.

Page 48 is your signing off page. Before you attend your Completion
Residential your Battalion Advisor must sign off that he or she has
checked your Record Book and is satisfied that it is fit to be handed
over at the Completion Residential. At the bottom of this page the
authorisation of your book will be signed by the Area Organiser and
this will mean your book has been passed. Please note that before
your book is signed off everything must be completed and will be
checked by a member of staff at the Completion Residential.
