Stage Electrics was founded in 1979 and has its headquarters in Bristol, with field based sales, technical and project managers across the UK. We are specialist integrators of lighting, sound, stage engineering and projection systems in performance spaces, with extensive experience in the Education Sector. Our OpusSystem which has been designed for this sector is a unique, patented product.
In 2014 Northern Light (established 1971, with offices in Edinburgh) joined forces with Stage Electrics. Both Northern Light and Stage Electrics continue to trade under their own names due to exceptionally strong brand loyalty.
meeting the challenges
head on
The combined expertise and size of the two organisations make us the largest integrator in the UK and offers main contractors and end users a professional, customer-focussed and risk- managed service with state of the art equipment to ensure continued satisfaction and fit for purpose solutions.
This coupled with our productised Opus offering enables us to cope with the especially high supply peaks in the Education Sector.
At Stage Electrics, we recognise the importance of a robust supply chain and fixed prices. Our research indicates that the government Priority Schools Building Programme (PSBP) has resulted in some very challenging supply chain issues and will continue to do so.
Stage Electrics have launched a unique initiative to ensure resilience against this risk for our construction partners. This initiative is in the form of a productised solution giving standardised facilities to halls and performance studios in compliance with government and curriculum guidelines.
Our Opus™ Solution allows the installation of specialist systems without the need for electricians, a single power supply is all that is required to enable its installation in the primary and drama studio formats. If the venue requires more tailored solutions, our bespoke services can be matched to any specification requirement and any school building.

In response to the supply chain risks, we have embarked on a framework and partnership program with some of our main contractor customers. Through this arrangement we can offer agreed specification, pricing and delivery/installation parameters. This is delivering tangible benefits to both parties and will drastically reduce deployment time and associated costs.

“The Production Lighting & Sound package was one of the first packages to receive sign off on the project, due to the comprehensive and dedicated approach that was adopted by Stage Electrics from the outset – I commend their work ethos and attitude. No problem was too difficult and solutions were always available.”

HOME is a £25m 7,000m2 production and
presentation focused contemporary arts centre.
The project was commissioned by Manchester City
Council (MCC) as a new venue for the organisation
formed from the merger of Cornerhouse and the
Library Theatre Company). The building includes
500 seat theatre, 160 seat black-box theatre,
5 cinemas, 500m2 of contemporary art gallery
and various production and front of house spaces.
Stage Electrics were appointed by Wates, the
construction contractor, to deliver the final design
and technical fit out of the theatres and the technical
infrastructure of other spaces to enable HOME to be
a flexible cross-artform venue. knowledge expertiseinforming the process
“Stage Electrics never lost sight of the overall aim of the project being to create a great venue for artists, audiences and technicians. They provided great pragmatic technical advice that enabled us to make informed choices. They were good at coming up with solutions to technical and budget challenges. After sales has been excellent and feels much more like a partnership than a customer/supplier transaction.” DAVE MOUTREY Director and CEO
THE GUILDHALL SCHOOL completed a major
building project to expand its facilities. Milton Court
opened in September 2013 providing the School with
state-of-the-art performance and teaching spaces
including a 608-seat Concert Hall, a 223-seat Theatre,
a Studio Theatre, three major rehearsal rooms and
TV studio suite.
This project is a perfect example of the need for
architecture and stage engineering to work harmoni-
ously together for a truly memorable experience.
RHWL Arts Team’s vision for Milton Court was to
create an elegant building that captures the warmth
and soul of live performance, with the characteristics
and functional arrangements of a professional concert
hall and an intimate, yet technically sophisticated,
performing arts centre. Students, staff and public
visitors to the School can now experience world-class
performance venues and training spaces.

CITY OF LONDON SCHOOL completed a major
refurbishment project with our help. The School’s
Theatre, which had been named after the former pupil
and distinguished Victorian engineer, Henry Beaufoy,
was transformed into the Winterflood Theatre.
The School funded this £1.3 million development
with the help of a significant gift from City benefactor
Mr. Brian Winterflood. Culture Secretary, Margaret
Hodge MP laid the foundation stone and the work was
completed less than six months later.
Over the years we have delivered many projects,
in the education sector mainly, but also in other
areas. We know that these projects have to finished
to everyone’s satisfaction, on time and often within
quite tight budgets.

UNIVERSITY OF BRIGHTON – EASTBOURNE
CAMPUS The sound and lighting system at the
campus in Shoreham was very old; it was apparent
that the equipment was coming to the end of its life.
Initially it was proposed to mix and match the old
system with new equipment – Opus resolved this.
The client required a technical set-up which didn’t
need a full-time technician; it had to be straightfor-
ward enough for their academic tutors to be able to
use easily.
John Fulton Hall is used about 75% of the time as
a student teaching space, particularly for teaching
Sports Science students, and it’s also used for end
of year shows, smaller productions, and by many
external companies. Opus now gives proper hands-
on control to practitioners. That’s what university is
all about – practical experience, the opportunity to
experiment and build confidence.
There are banners around the campus saying how
much the university has reinvested in its students.
The university is proud of its investment in educa-
tion but this investment in OpusSystem also boosts
the university’s green credentials by reducing power
consumption on campus.
“We worked closely together for 18 months and the result is an excellent quality theatre which fully meets the Client’s brief.”
