As we near the end of Term 1 I would like to reflect on what has been a great start to the year. We have seen an improvement in student engagement and behaviour, developed important relationships between home and school and we have begun, and continued, to implement successful programs to assist student learning. I would like to take this opportunity to discuss how important it is to build relationships in our school community. We want our families to be happy and feel comfortable about sending their children to school every day. When we have parents on side our children show success. Students show the most success when their teachers and family are on the same page. They can tell when their teacher and family work together and are striving for the same goals. We hope that through our Community Event earlier this year and the recent Goal Setting Meetings, we have managed to build relationships and that they continue to strengthen over the remainder of the year. Senior Leader News
This week I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Student Wellbeing Leaders Conference at Adelaide Oval. The day was full of exciting ideas and new resources for schools to use. The biggest thing that was spoken about is the Department’s ‘Wellbeing for Learning’; a whole school approach, and the Student Wellbeing Ambassador toolkit. I am excited to feed them back to staff and start to implement some of the ideas through classroom and SRC initiatives. In other exciting news, our classroom SRC Representatives have now been chosen and our first meeting will be this Thursday after assembly. Congratulations to all who have been voted in! News from the Principal
I would like to congratulate and thank all those who submitted their application for student leadership. This is a very brave decision by these students and one that needs to be showcased and celebrated. Congratulations to all students who voluntarily went through this process. Sports day is fast approaching. I would like to acknowledge Mr Yeates for his hard work in preparing this year’s event and look forward to seeing as many people as we can supporting the students on Friday 29th March. A reminder that Governing Council will be selling cakes to
support fundraising efforts for the school canteen. This is always a very popular part of the day. Please bring your loose change and support the stall which will be located in the STEM learning outdoor covered area. BBQ sausages and drinks will also be available for purchase throughout the day. Thankyou to staff and volunteers for preparing and selling these items. Other canteen items will also be on sale throughout the event. On April 9th and 10th, as part of our continuous school improvement process, the
school will be involved in an external school review with the Department for Education review panel. The purpose of the review is to support us to raise achievement, sustain high performance and provide quality assurance to build public confidence in government schools. The focus of the external review is to evaluate our school’s performance. The review panel consists of a Review Officer from central office and a trained Peer Principal. What’s Happening in Room 4?
After a great start to the term, Room 4 are settled into their new routines and doing some fantastic learning. One of our topics in Maths, has been to create and identify symmetry. After sorting objects as either symmetrical or asymmetrical, students completed a symme-tree which is on display in the classroom. With a focus on Indigenous Perspectives in our lessons the students had the opportunity to view Indigenous art and discuss the colours and patterns. They were also asked to identify whether or not the art was symmetrical. The students then created their own symmetrical Aboriginal dot painting.
Tomorrow is Sports Day! The day begins like any other school day with children expected in class at 8.50am. Children may wear their team colours; either red, blue, yellow or green. All students must have a wide-brimmed hat and will not be allowed to participate without one. Any coloured hair spray must be applied at home, it is not permitted on school grounds (including the car park). Sports Day is part of our curriculum and children are expected to attend and participate. We invite all parents and caregivers to attend on the day and cheer our students on. The day finishes early at 2.10pm.
