We're looking forward to exciting things happening in our
youth, early childhood, and Single Stop programs!
Dear Friends,
Even though summer is a time for fun andrelaxation, it's also time to continue supportingour neighbors on the Lower East Side and inBrooklyn and preparing the fall ahead.
These are just a few things we're excited about:
We're looking forward to summer camp, whichstarts in July at five of our sites in Manhattanand nine sites in Brooklyn. Over 1,800 youthwill enjoy vibrant summer learning andrecreation and develop skills in leadership,teamwork, problem-solving, service, andScience, Technology, Engineering, and Math(STEM). Our youth will show off what they'velearned during summer camp at our Youthfestevent in August.Our early childhood staff will be hard at workdoing recruitment and outreach in
BOLD INITIATIVES
Our Community School at Juan Morel Campos School ofthe Arts hosted a carnival that not only featured fun and
games, but also provided an opportunity to gatherfeedback from community members on curricula, school
environment, community partnerships, and familyengagement.
GRAND STRATEGY
The staff from our EHS-CCP programs attended the NYSHead Start conference to learn how to Improving the
quality of family childcare and strengthen early educationprograms.
INSPIRED WORK
preparation for the start of our Pre-Kprograms this fall. They will continue to workwith case workers at collaborating shelters tosupport parents whose children need schoolplacement, as well as table at events such asbook giveaways in June and Family Fun Day inJuly.Our Single Stop program has expanded itsreach into Brooklyn with the hire of a newOutreach Coordinator. We are alreadyproviding services to our Unity Plaza andWilliamsburg Community Centers, and plan toprovide services to our community school atJuan Morel Campos School of the Arts, ourearly childhood center at 319 Stanhope Street,and Bushwick-Hylan Community Center.

Thoughts on Giving Back
We asked our board president, Ken Liebman,about what it means for him to be involved withGrand St. Settlement. He said, "I grew up in afamily whose mantra was to 'give back' to thecommunity in which they lived. To serve as GrandSt. Settlement's president gives me that vision ineven sharper perspective. It is indeed a singularprivilege that I will always cherish."

Taste of the Lower East Side
The 18th Annual Taste of the Lower East Sideraised more than $400,000 to support ourprograms to improve the lives of 10,000 NewYorkers each year! Fun with Jewelry
Artist and educator Syma led our seniors at 80 PittStreet in the first of several jewelry-makingworkshops! We look forward to seeing the finalproducts soon.
Art on Hart Street
The exterior of our Roosevelt Community Centerwas brightened up with a beautiful muralrepresenting its community members.
Giving Thanks
We recently said farewell to our social workinterns with a celebratory lunch at GrandLo Café.We thank them for all that they have done tosupport our program participants!
Toasting our Teachers
Teachers from our Early Head Startprogram celebrated Teacher Appreciation Weekby enjoying a delicious lunch. Thanks to all of ourteachers who instill a love of learning in ourchildren.
The Importance of Advocacy
Peer Educators from PSOL traveled to Albanyfor LGBTQI Advocacy Day. We were proud to bepart of a coalition of organizations to educateour legislators about the issues that impactLGBTQI in New York.
Celebrating Mothers
Moms were treated to a Mother's Day brunch atBushwick-Hylan Community Center--as well asroses distributed by Assembly Member MaritzaDavila!
A Love of Literacy
Our Baruch Community Center partnered withSirens of The Rainforest to provide youth withliteracy workshops on immigration andenvironmental conservation.
Tech Savvy
Young women from our youth programsparticipated in the second annual Breaking theCode film festival, where they showed films theycreated and enhanced with code.
Collaboration is Key
Our community school at MS 582 held aCommunity School Extravaganza for itsstakeholders, including families, students,administrators, teachers, staff, and communitypartners. This was a chance to get updates fromthe administration, review the school's progress,and determine priorities for the coming year.

...to two of our Early Learn staff members,Danielle Bryant-Mathurin and Joanna Huang, forcompleting United Neighborhood Houses'sEmerging Leaders Program and CACF: Coalitionfor Asian American Children & Families's SocialJustice Leadership Institute, respectively.

...Managing Director of Youth and CommunityDevelopment Thanh Bui, for completing the CoroFellowship. In Thanh's own words: "I learned a lotabout NYC issues and policies and how theyaffect communities on the macro and micro level!"
Staying Healthy
Our BEST-NORC program recently teamed upwith community partners to organize a health fairand provide health screenings for our seniors.
Learning Opportunity
Roosevelt Community Center hosted a DiscoveryFair that provided an opportunity for its youth, aswell as youth from Tompkins and Bushwick-HylanCommunity Centers, to learn more about STEM!
Our JUMP! volunteers traveled to Six Flags with our youth from our
Beacon program!
