St. Pio Intercessory
Prayer Ministry
Come join us after Mass in the church and experience the Holy
Spirit at work. Prayer teams are available after all weekend Masses. Intercessory prayer is a prayer that pleads with God for your needs and the needs of others. Often the problems we face seem too big for us. No matter how much we try, we cannot solve them on our own. It's times like these when we need to turn to the Lord in intercessory prayers.
RETROUVAILLE A Christian Peer Ministry focused on reaching out to
hurting married couples longing for renewal and hope. Metro
Detroit has multiple English and Spanish programs scheduled this year, each beginning with a weekend on the

The Assumption The graces of Jesus' redemption are out-side of time and space. Mary is conceived
without original sin. In the feast of the Assumption, we cele-
brate the result of that reality! Mary's soul and body are not separated at the
moment of death, nor does her body de-cay. She is brought up, body and soul,
into Heaven. Even in apostolic times, no religious site
has claimed the actual body of Mary. Considering the Church's enthusiasm for relics, this is a startling fact! After Chris-tianity became legal in the Roman Em-
pire, the site of her empty tomb became a place of local pilgrimage.
On this feast, we remember that just as Jesus has taken care of his mother, he
will take care of us.

If you have been previously enrolled your Family Packet will be available after All Masses this weekend (August 10 & 11). Please stop by, inside the main doors of the church, to pick yours up. For all new registrations, we will have forms availa-ble for you as well, just please ask and the appropriate grade level will be given to you! Deadline for Registration is Tuesday, August 27th. Our Welcoming Mass is scheduled for Monday, Septem-ber 16 at 4:30 p.m. which opens our school year. FYI: Our classes meet on Monday from 4:30-5:45 p.m. in the School Building. In several grades, we have implemented the new curriculum changes suggested by the Archdiocese of Detroit. It is our plan to convert all grades to the new curriculum by the fall of 2020. The new "Encounter, Grow and Witness" format will be incorporated as much as possible leading our students to really understand their faith and learning to become true disciples of Christ. Pray for our Catechists and Stu-dents during this transition time as we proceed in this new direction!
All Faith Formation Registrations must be received in our office by Tuesday, August 27th so we have time to prepare for the coming year! A $10.00 late fee will be accessed to any previously regis-tered family after the deadline so please help us by registering on time! Registra-tions can be brought to the Faith For-mation Office on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from Noon to 5:00 p.m. If you can not make that time frame, please call Mrs. Janice Pazuchowski @ 586-777-9116 ext. 5 to set a convenient drop off time. The Parish Office will also accept Registrations during normal business hours. We look forward to a fun faith-filled year!

Music Notes
Have you ever attended a concert, play, opera, or other
performance where music is played and you are surprised by how loud it is? It is quite common. As a young man, I attend-ed many concerts where they had walls of speakers. It was so loud that my ears were “buzzing” afterward. The old public address systems (PA) of the past were very uneconomical, heavy, and bulky. They were manufactured to produce a decent sound as far as possible, period. A concert in 2019 requires maybe 10% of the physical speakers then what was re-quired back then. Enter the digital age and PA systems or sound systems are designed to produce a clearer, stronger signal with much greater efficiency with-out the intense volume. A lot of the sound controllers are still in the old school and run these new units too loud. I was pleas-antly surprised by the unit at St. Pio. We are very fortunate to have a state-of-the-art system in the church space. We are trying to bring to the congregation the nicest, EQ balanced, clear sound to our congregation. A system such as ours needs regular attention though as there are many factors in its performance. The building’s wood and brick composition, the temperature, the humidity, the amount of people, etc., are all factors in how everything sounds. We monitor our choral output, the volume of the piano/organ, the speaking microphones at every mass here at St. Pio. Have a great week! Mark F. Madison, Music Director
BEQUESTS – REMEMBER YOUR PARISH
The simplest planned gift to the Church is a bequest in your last will or testament or in your living trust to your parish. This demonstrates the obvious necessity to have a valid will or trust in order to ac-complish your goal of leaving a legacy to the Church as your final act of steward-ship. Even if you choose not to make an outright bequest to the Church, it may be a good idea for you to consider the Church as the beneficiary of a contingent bequest in the event all of your other named beneficiaries no longer exist at the time of your death. This is sometimes referred to as a "clean up" provision. It ensures that your proper-ty is distributed according to your plan rather than the state law on estate distri-butions. A tax planning point for bequests: To the extent possible, your bequests to the Church should be from assets referred to in the Internal Revenue Code as "income in respect of a decedent." Some examples of these assets are U.S. government savings bonds and retirement plans such as 401(k) plans and IRAs. These assets are ideal for bequests to the Church because they are subject to income tax if received by a tax-paying beneficiary, such as a family mem-ber. However, since the Church, like other charities, is tax-exempt, income tax can be avoided on bequests of these assets to the Church. Other assets, such as bank ac-counts, life insurance and corporate stocks and bonds, which do not suffer this in-come tax taint, are better assets to distrib-ute to family beneficiaries. Bequests may take several different forms: A bequest of a specific amount: I give $$$ to.... A bequest of specific property: I give 100 shares of XYZ Corporation to.... A bequest of a portion of the residue of your estate: I give 10 percent of the remaining property in my estate to.... A bequest of the complete residue of your estate: I give all of the remaining property in my estate to.... The following is beneficiary designations for leaving bequests to your parish. To your parish: To Most Reverend Allen H. Vigneron, Archbishop of the Archdio-cese of Detroit, and his successors in office, for the benefit of (name of parish and city).

Always ready to forgive us When we get close to God
through acts of charity, prayer, in Com-munion, in the word of God, he said, “we find that he is there, ahead of us, waiting for us—that is how he loves us.” God is there ready to teach and guide all people who have lost their way. Pope Francis said. “He is our father who loves us so much, who is always ready to for-give us. Always, Not once but 70 times seven, Always.” Karen Hilbert Christian Service Coordinator
