SUPER TAN SKM
Leather Auxiliary
Technical Information
Properties :
Classification : A neutralising agent for all types of leathers
Analytical Data :
Chemical Nature : Naphthalene sulphonic acid condensate
Appearance : Light brown free flowing powder
pH of 10% Solution : 7.2 ± 0.2
Concentration : 98% min.
Solubility : Completely soluble in water
Special Features :
SUPER TAN SKM consists of a salt mixture, which hardly yields any hydroxyl ions but
reacts almost neutral in aqueous solutions. The salt contains strongly complex-active
acid radicals, which displace and buffer the sulphuric acid bound in the collagen-
chromium complexes.
Overneutralisation with its well knownadverse affects for the leather quality is
impossible with SUPER TAN SKM. Excessive amounts will infact improve leather
quality by conversation of any unfixed chromium salts into tanning complexes.
SUPER TAN SKM lowers the positive charge of the collagen-chromium complexes &
thus levels out the pronouncedly positive charge of the chrome leather surface. This is
beneficial for applying anionic dyes &fatliquors uniformly resulting in uniformly dyes and
fatliquored leathers.
SUPER TAN SKM lowers the positive charge of the collagen-chromium complexes and
thus levels out the pronouncedly positive charge of the chrome leather surface. This is
beneficial for applying anionic dyes &fatliquors uniformly resulting in uniformly dyed
&fatliquored leathers.
SUPER TAN SKM does not give any colour reaction with iron salts. Vegetable &
synthetic retannages have a mild & uniform effect after a preceding SUPER TAN SKM
neutralization, drawn grain &overtannages are avoided and a full leather with fine & tight
grain & exceptionally good dyeing properties is obtained.
The properties of the product described above are particularly beneficial, if the soda
bicarb which is normally used is replaced wholly or atleast partially by SUPER TAN
SKM in basification of chrome liquor.
SUPER TAN SKM can also be used in combination with other commonly used
neutralizing agents. e.g. soda bicarb. In such cases, neutralization is commenced with
SUPER TAN SKM & the other neutralizing agent is added subsequently. Incorporation
of other neutralizing agentsofcourse reduces the special effects of SUPER TAN SKM.
SUPER TAN SKM has good lightfastness.

SUPER TAN SDI
Leather Auxiliary
Technical Information
Properties :
Classification : Synthetic replacement tanning agent
Analytical Data :
Chemical Nature : Blend of phenolic & naphthalene condensation
products
Appearance : Light brown coloured free flowing powder
pH of 10% Solution : 3.5 ± 0.5
Concentration : 95% min.
Acidity (As acetic acid) : 5% max
Solubility : Completely soluble in water
Special Features :
SUPER TAN SDI is compatible with all vegetable and synthetic tanning materials and is
not sensitive to salts.
SUPER TAN SDI has a wide range of applications in the retannages of all types of
chrome leather & in vegetable tannages.
SUPER TAN SDI yield full, resilient & almost white leather.
When used in vegetable tannages, SUPER TAN SDI accelerates the rate of penetration
& lightens the shade of resultant leather.
SUPER TAN SDI imparts good fibre& grain resilience to vegetable tanned leather &
produces a high yield.
SUPER TAN SDI has good leveling effect on the dyeing and is particularly suitable for
pale shades.
SUPER TAN SDI gives good fullness, softness & uniform dyeing with medium light
fastness to the leather.
SUPER TAN SDI also exhibits buffering action & slight neutralizing effect.
Applications :
SUPER TAN SDI can be used as replacement tanning agent in all stages of tannage for
the production of heavy, medium & light leather.
a) Shoe upper leather from cow sides.
Material : Chrome tanned sides.

Dyeing &fatliquoring usual.
b) Vegetable tannage
SUPER TAN SDI can be used with equally good results in both conventional tanning
system & in low-float tanning process. Inclusion of SUPER TAN SDI in vegetable
tanning has following advantages:
It accelerates through tannage, improves grain properties, brightness the colour of the
leather, levels out the dyeing & prevents sludge &mould formation.
In conventional system, optimum results are achieved by replacing 20-30% of the
vegetable extract by SUPER TAN SDI.
SUPER TAN SDI has a medium acid reserve. When combining it with low acid
vegetable tanning materials in liquor systems, it may be advisable to increase the
acidity by adding 4-6 kgs of acetic acid or formic acid for every 100 Kgs of SUPER TAN
SDI. This improves the liquor exhaustion, tanning material fixation &colour of the
leather. Super TAN SDI makes grain smoother & more elastic and is easier to set out.
The product is added in the main tannage. It is sufficient to replace 10-15% of the total
amount of vegetable extract used.
c) In suede/nubuck leather production, recommendation dosages of SUPER TAN SDI
are 5-8% based on shaved weight.
d) Correected grain leather requires 5-10% SUPER TAN SDI based on shaved weight.
e) For pastel coloured leathers & white leathers, recommended dosages of SUPER
TAN SDI are 2-10% based on shaved weight.

SUPER TAN SRE
Leather Auxiliary
Technical Information
Properties :
Classification : Acrylic retanning agent for chrome tanned leather
Analytical Data :
Chemical Nature : Aqueous solutions of acrylic copolymers
Appearance : Yellow coloured viscous liquid
pH (as such) : 6.5 ± 0.5
Solid : 40 ± 2%
Solubility : Completely soluble in water
Special Features :
SUPER TAN SRE is perfectly compatible with synthetic tanning agents & vegetable
extracts, dyes &fatliquors.
SUPER TAN SRE has an excellent fastness to light, so it is advisable to use it in white
& light coloured items.
Even small amounts of SUPER TAN SRE will fill the leather without impairing the
fineness of the grain & leather will retain the typical character of the chrome leather
despite the use of other retanning materials.
Fixation of SUPER TAN SRE can be increased with chrome tanning agents resulting in
an increase in fullness & thickness with improved feel.
Use of SUPER TAN SRE is facilitates finishing anchorage.
SUPER TAN SRE is specially suitable for leathers with loose structure for upper leather.
SUPER TAN SRE is not stable under highly acidic pH i.e. below 3.5
SUPER TAN SRE is not readily miscible with cationic products (e.g. Mineral tanning
agents).
Applications :
SUPER TAN SRE is used for retanning chrome leather to improve its fullness &
tightness of grain without causing formation of coarser grain. Before retannage, the
leather nust be neutralized throughout cross-section. It is recommended that SUPER
TAN SRE be diluted with an equal quantity of water before adding into drum. The
running time of drum will vary with the type of leather. But 30-50 mins will normally be
enough to exhaust the liquor. SUPER TAN SRE treated leathers can be dried by usual
methods, but vaccum drying is considered to give best results. The quality of SUPER
TAB SRE needed varies with the type of leather being produced. Normally 4% based on
shaved wt. is adequate. Less quantity will be needed for skins & more for heavy
leathers.
