Assalamu’alaikum Wr. Wb.

Freedom, freedom, freedom!

This month, 72 years ago, the shrill voice of the

Proclaimer became a marker that this nation was

officially released from the tyranny of colonization.

In this month, the aroma of struggle seemed to feel

more vibrant than usual. Moreover, the flags flutter in

front of the house, offices, and roadside became an

extraordinary enchantment.

Zakah comrades, how are the spirit you have now?

Hopefully, it is still fully stored that it can make our

spirit remain spurred fast.

Today, our task is to defend and continue the struggle

of the ancestors. Maintain freedom with various

positive activities. Wherever we are, we must remain

engaged in the real actions of a change. Because

every human being is a true warrior. Therefore, we

always try not to stop struggling in bringing smile to

our brothers. Various community programs that we

present, hopefully will remain consistent and growing.

Allow me to thank and appreciate the struggle of the

volunteers and facilitators who served throughout the

Empowered village of Rumah Zakat. Similarly to the

amil of Rumah Zakat who continue to fight behind the

scenes in the struggle of managing and distributing

the people funds to be more useful.

We continue to build partnerships, such as with

Indosat Ooredoo on providing Connectivity and

Digital Corner services for Empowered Villages.

In addition, we keep distributing our humanitarian

aids, such as aid for flood victims in Belitung and

Kalimantan, as well as for earthquake victims in

Padang.

We ask all of your prayer so that this humanitarian

mission remain consistent. Hopefully, our struggle can

bring a smile and passion to the people around us.

Because independence is essentially about realizing

shared happiness.

Being a Tourism Village

8 9| RZ Magz - August 2017 RZ Magz - Dzul-Hijjah 1438 |

Main Topic

Bligo Village is one of the Empowered Village of

Rumah Zakat in Magelang District, Central Java.

Natural conditions of Bligo Village is not much

different from the other Empowered Village of Rumah

Zakat in Central Java, i.e. cool air, surrounded by rice

fields, and friendly community.

distinguishes this village with other village is the spirit

of its citizens who want to change the Face : Image of

an ordinary village into a tourism and known village

in Indonesia. “Bligo village has many advantages, it’s

really unfortunate if it’s not properly managed and

utilized. Now it depends on whether the human

resources are willing or not to manage it well,” said

Sumardi activator of karang taruna : Youth Forum

cadre of Bligo Empowered Village.

Tourism Village is a dream for Bligo residents, since

2015 the activists of coral cadet : Youth Forum cadre

alongside with Wimbo, Empowered Village Facilitator

of Rumah Zakat together pioneered the Bligo Village

to be one of the existing Tourism Village in Magelang.

The first thing they do is educate the residents in order

to properly maintain and utilize the environment.

Building Bligo Tourism Village,

Magelang

Clean and medium stream of Mataram river is suitable for fun tubing

Visitors are playing fun tubing at Bligo Tourism Village

Main Topic

Bligo village is traversed by two major rivers, namely

Kaliprogo and Mataram. Which then one of them

is used as a tourist attraction. “The Mataram River

is closer to the village, the stream is also not too

profusely : swift, so it can be used for fun tubing,” said

Sumardi.

The people’s desire to utilize the Mataram River to be

a tourism site has existed since a long time, but can

only be realized this year due to the cost constraints

and inadequate facilities and infrastructure. According

to Sumardi, by utilizing the river as one of the tourism

sites, residents will be helped from the economic side.

Fun Tubing di Desa Berdaya Bligo

Enhancement of the residents’ economy is an

important point in the realization of Bligo Tourism

Village. “With the improvement in the economic level

of its residents, may be followed also by the education

enhancement of Bligo villagers,” said Sumardi.

Currently there are only 10 fun tubing units that can

be used to ford the Mataram River, with three guides

guarding it. According to Sumardi, this fun tubing is

just tried after last Eid Al-Fitr by local people and they

enthusiastically follow this activity.

Wimbo also said if the river becomes one of the

residents’ income sources then there will be no more

residents along the river that throw garbage carelessly.

The idea to make the river as a fun tubing tour

location is triggered by the desire to keep the Mataram

River clean and clear from garbage.

Care for Bligo’s Duren

The beautiful village and the clear river are not the

only tourist attraction in Bligo Village. It is the durian,

the fruit that is said to be the most delicious fruit in

the world has its own attraction or even the most

interesting in the village. Durian can thrive well in Bligo

Village, that is why the Bligo durian is considered as

the most delicious durian in Magelang regions until

now.

“Though Durian in this region is small but its tastes

is so good, that’s what makes it famous, at least

in Magelang and its surrounding areas” said Salip,

Chairman of the Care Group of Duren Bligo smiling.

According to Salip durian that grows here usually

hereditary so its regeneration is less good. Hence the

community of Care for Duren Bligo was born, so that

the specificity of Bligo durian is not disappear and can

be a tourist attraction, especially for the durian lovers.

There are 10 people who joined in the community.

At the beginning of the formation of the community,

each member get 4 durian seeds. Seeds are given for

the regeneration of other durian trees belonging to

residents who are already decades old.

Almost all residents here plant durian in the yard of

their house. Residents in Bligo village do not have to

wait for durian season if they want to enjoy the durian

since there are many residents who plant the tree in

their house. It is not only consumed by themselves,

the durian is also sold in a market called as the durian

market. This market is not like most markets, in here

only durian sold in the yard of citizens’ houses or in

baskets brought by residents motorcycle or bicycle

whose homes are far away.

“So later if we are ready to become a Tourism Village,

the tourists who have enjoyed the fun tubing in the

Mataram River can enjoy our village peculiar durian

while resting,” said Salip.

Main Topic

The establishment of Trash Bank in Bligo Village,

Wimbo said originated from his restlessness to the

garbage that has accumulated in the Mataram River.

The residents habit of throwing garbage into the river

is difficult to prevent. This causes the Mataram River

which is located near the residential area almost

overflow.

“Seeing the condition of the almost overflowing

Mataram River, we feel that this is a serious problem

that must be immediately managed. So, since May

2016, we started to form a Trash Bank and began to

socialize the Trash Bank program to the residents,” said

Wimbo.

Although it is difficult, but now people are beginning

to feel the benefits of the Trash Bank in their area.

Moreover, the clients of Trash Bank are not only made

up of individuals but some institutions such as PAUD,

waste products in the Village Office, PKK Group, and

printing offices in the Bligo Village area. That is why

they have harvested up to 1 quintal of paper from

those agencies.

“Alhamdulillah, the

benefits of this Trash

In addition, my savings is also increased,” said Dini,

one of the children who become clients of Beriman

Trash Bank in Javanese accent.

The empowerment facilitators in the village

said that some of the programs are intended for

children. This empowerment is expected to foster

better generations, and produce more ‘durable’

empowerment.

According to Wijanarko, Beriman Trash Bank

Manager, currently the number of clients are 75

people in Bligo Village which consists of children as

well as the adults. This number has increased from

the previous number which is only amounted to 30

people.

“Introducing a Trash Bank and inviting people to

collect the garbage here is very difficult at first.

Because introducing the waste is like introducing

things that people don’t care about,” Wijanarko

said.

Members of Garbage Bank are weighing the garbage

Children carry the garbage they have collected

Bank can be felt by all people. The environment here

is cleaner, people awareness of the importance of

maintaining cleanliness and health of the surrounding

environment are also increasing,” said Ambar, Head of

Dusun Benteng.

The existence of the Trash Bank in Bligo also supports

the formation plan of Tourism Village there. This is a

long-term thinking of the Trash Bank management

to build a Tourism Village so that it can be free from

waste problems.

“When we build a Tourism Village, then we will

inevitably face the garbage problem. But through this

Trash Bank, we will no longer confused in facing the

garbage problem in the Tourism Village later,” said

Wimbo.Fostering the Young Generation of Bligo Village

Since morning, pre-school to high school kids have

been waiting in line bringing some crackles and

small bags of plastic bottles, glass beverages waste,

paper waste, and other inorganic waste. They happily

delivered the garbage that they had collected from

around their houses and their own household waste.

After weighed, then their savings in Trash Bank

automatically increased. One kilogram of garbage is

valued at Rp1000 to Rp 2500, depending on the type

of garbage collected.

“Fostering must be done from an early age, so that

later people can get used to it. The administrators

won’t stay young forever, so there must be a

replacement for future generations,” said Wimbo

Abendhono, Bligo Empowered Village Facilitator,

Ngluwar, Magelang District.

According to the children who become clients of the

Trash Bank, there is a pleasure when they deliver the

garbage they collected to Trash Bank. “I am happy

collecting garbage at Trash Bank. Because it could

make my house cleaner, neat, and free from garbage.

Build Solidarity Among Members

The existence of Breeder Group built in Bligo village

is also a means to build togetherness among group

members. Once a month, a meeting conducted to

discuss any problems felt by the members.

“We are grateful for this group. I was already

maintaining a rabbit for a hobby before the group

is existed. If there is a problem we must solve

it ourselves. But now, after the breeder group

conducted, if there is a problem we can share it with

other group members,” said Fajar, one of the group

members.

In addition, this breeder group also becomes a place

to share the sale area. “The existence of this fbreeder

group is very helpful. Because all of the friends are

mutually filling the weakness of others, it’s also very

helpful in terms of sales. I don’t know anything about

the internet, then I am assisted by other members

who have better understanding in using it,” added

Wigati.

Being part of the Tourism Village

In addition to improving the economy of residents,

the existence of rabbit and goat Breeder in Bligo

Village is also expected to be part of the attraction

in Tourism Village. One of the efforts is by

continuing to increase the number of livestock and

beneficiaries. In addition, coaching through Breeder

also continue to run in order to build a common

vision and mission in building Bligo Tourism Village.

“I hope that every aspect of empowerment in this

village becomes part of a tourism village, including

this farms group. So, hopefully the farms group that

we develop can continue growing and enlarging so

that visitors of Bligo Tourism Village can enjoy the

farms tourism here,” said Wimbo.

Developing Goat Farms

Things that are not much different felt by Yunarto,

Chairman of the Bligo Village Goat Breeders Group,

now has 10 goats. The goats are goats that he takes

care since February 2015.

Yunarto recalled that he had previously take care a

goat. However, the results he obtained were not so

optimal. With the group of goat breeders, he can be

more optimal in maintaining the goat.

“I have started to keep goats since five years ago.

Alhamdulillah since there’s help from Rumah Zakat,

the number of goats that I keep increasing. Because in

addition to seeds, we are also given goat medication

from Rumah Zakat,” said Yunarto.

The proceeds from the goat sale is used by Yunarto to

finance his children’s school fees. In addition, Yunarto

can aslo increase his savings.

Later, Yunarto hoped that he can empower not

just himself, but also invite and empower others. “I

wish that one day I can have a big farm. Then I can

have some workers. I can help others who need

work. Hopefully one day, I am the one who got

empowered now could be able to empower others,”

he said.

As one of the other potentials owned by Bligo

empowered Village, Ngluwar, Magelang District is the

number of farmers who can be empowered. For this

reason, the facilitator of Bligo empowered Village,

Wimbo Abendhono began to invite the surrounding

community to form Farms Group of Bligo Village.

In the village, there are two groups formed, which are

the Rabbit breeder group and Goat breeder group.

This is because the potential of Bligo Village that is

considered suitable to maintain both animals. Initially,

each member (total of 14-member) Rabbit Farms

Group received two female rabbits and one male

rabbit. In addition, the members are also given the

funding for the construction of pens and for drugs.

The group that has been running since August 2016, is

now beginning to show some results. Each member

now has at least 10 rabbits and has succeded to sell

the rabbits they have took care.

Just like Wigati, one of the members of the Bligo

Rabbit Farms Group, confessed that the rabbit he

takes care is only four left. It is because he had just

harvested about 22 rabbits before. “Alhamdulillah I

have already sold many rabbits. I can use the money

from the sales for my child’s school fees,” he said.

The Pioneers of Bligo Tourism Village Being a pioneer and initiator, requires him to have more passion than the other. So as with the struggle that must

be passed, it is greater than the others. In addition to spreading the spirit, it is also expected that the plans in the

mind could be realized with real accomplishment. Here are the story of the pioneers and initiators in Bligo Village,

Ngluwar, Magelang Regency. Wimbo Abendhono

Developing the Homeland

Wimbo’s desire to develop his hometown village,

made him perform real action by becoming an

Empowered Village Facilitator. Taking a law degree

education does not make Wimbo having difficulty in

carrying out the task of developing the environment.

“I want my village to make some advancement. Then I

see there are many community leaders who also have

the same mission and easy to work with. So, I think

this is the right time for me to do the real action,” said

the man who was born in 1976.

The struggle to build Tourism Village in Bligo began to

reach some accomplishment. With enthusiasm and

strong desire, Wimbo believes that his homeland can

be an advanced tourism village.

Although, there are many people who are doubt

about the idea of forming a Tourism Village. But, with

the support and the cooperation among residents

there, Wimbo feels that the barriers can be passed

easily.

“Alhamdulillah with a well-developed cooperation,

the development plan of this Tourism Village does not

face many big obstacles. Hopefully, this great dream

can soon be realized with the spirit and willingness of

all people,” said Wimbo.

Salip Sunyoto

Care for the Legacy of Ancestors

Salip Sunyoto’s concern about the inheritance of

the ancestors, making him excited in developing

Duren Care Group of Bligo Village. Salip who is also a

Chairman of Farmers Group of Duren Care is starting

to intensify in developing durian plants.

“The ancestors in Bligo Village have been durian

farmers since a long time ago. But there are indeed

some shortcomings in the type of durian they plant.

For that, I want to continue developing durian type so

that the fruit becomes better and has a bigger selling

point to be developed in Bligo Village,” said Salip.

Although it is not his hometown, Salip admits his

desire in developing Farmer Group of Duren Care has

never been subsided.

“This is not my birthplace. But as a person who lives

in this village, I want to develop the group of durian

farmers, as well as improve the quality of durian, also

participate in the realization of Tourism Village in

Bligo,” said Salip.

Wijanarko

Ready for Trash Bank

As a manager at Beriman Trash Bank, Wijanarko claimed

to have big dreams for the Trash Bank he currently runs.

It is not only as a garbage collection container, he said

that this Trash Bank will be used as a business field for the

surrounding community.

“Trash Bank is not only a social mission but also an

economic mission. Through this Trash Bank I

want to build a large business entity from

garbage. Because if it is big, the social aspect

on community empowerment can be done

independently by us and will not depend on the

government and other parties,” said Wijanarko.

It can be realized through Wijanarko

preparedness to take care and socialize

Trash Bank.

“I used to be embarrassed if I was told to

socialize in the community. Somewhat

reluctant since not all people are willing to

accept what we offer. But now if I am asked

to socialize related the Trash Bank I would

immediately be ready anywhere and anytime,” he

said Spiritedly.

It is Sumardi, one of the initiators of Bligo Tourism

Village, Magelang. The man who was born in 1968

has a big dream, increasing the economic level of

Bligo residents through tourism. According to him by

improving the economy of the residents, it will also

affect their education.

Since 2015 the father of one child has started to

develop his dream by playing an active role in various

activities especially those initiated by Rumah Zakat. “At

the beginning, we expressed the idea to make Bligo

The beauty of Bligo Village Must Be Enjoyed by the Descendant

Village as Tourism Village, the villagers welcomed

it well, but since it has not shown any significant

result then the funding aid is also not too optimal.

Alhamdulillah, the idea is in line with the programs

initiated by Rumah Zakat so we can both build this

Bligo Tourism Village,” said Sumardi.

In realizing Bligo Tourism Village, Sumardi and his

colleagues share duties and roles. Members who

have Bachelor’s degree of education are devoted to

be responsible in the fun tubing that has just been

inaugurated after last Idul Fitri. “Maybe it’s because I

like playing in the water so I’m asked to be in charge

of fun tubing,” he said.

This humble figure is known as a friendly person by

the people around, Sumardi never feel burdened

in setting aside time and energy for the progress

of his hometown. Because to Sumardi, Bligo is not

just the village where he lives, it’s more than that,

Bligo Village is an asset that must be maintained

and managed properly in order to be enjoyed by his

grandchildren in the future.

“Although Bligo Tourism Village that we are working

on now will not be felt by us. At least we left

something good for generations to come. This

village has to move forward, as well as its residents,”

said Sumardi.

This IKIP Magelang graduate admits that everything

he does is solely to get God’s blessing. “The best

people are those who are beneficial to others”

become the motto of his life, so no matter how

busy he is, Sumardi always has time to build his

village to be better.
