and life. It awakens the solar aspect of an

individual. Releases vital energy for the

development of higher awareness.

People who worship the sun as Brahman become powerful, active, intelligent and acquire long life.

Its roots can be found in yoga philosophy of vedic traditions.

Pyramids – to receive maximum solar radiation.

It is practiced in more than 40 different types all over India.

It can be done as a dynamic – asana – pranayama. Inthe state of Maharashtra Shivaji Maharaj,

Samartha Ramadas ji and the Marathas have preformed surya namaskar as a physical exercise to develop able bodies . This is not surprising since vyayama (Physicial exercise in Sanskrit) traditionally has been influenced by spirituality. Many physical practices have ingrained spiritual values in them.

In addition spiritual training is considered as a part of physical training from ancient times in India.

It is a series of twelve physical postures.

It stretches the spinal column and limbs to the maximum range.

Not to strain while exercising. Relax into each posture. (conserve

energy) Easy flow of movement, like a dance. To be practiced at the time of sunrise. Those with extreme stiffness should

practice Svy. Relaxation after the practice.
