What we do Why it works for you
Developer proposition
E.ON provide developers a one stop shop for on-site carbon compliance. E.ON Community Energy will design, build, fund and operate a development wide low carbon energy solution to meet or exceed the on-site carbon compliance and renewable targets.
We manage the risks surrounding technology, regulation, demand and credit.
A Community energy proposition can deliver up to 29% of the Code for Sustainable Homes (CSH) code 6 points, including mandatory requirements.
Customer proposition
We believe customers should pay no more for a low carbon solution than for heating via gas.
The ‘heat’ provision looks and feels no different to a traditional gas or power service, with flexible options and monthly bills, based on actual meter reads.
We enhance communities by providing decentralised, locally generated, energy solutions. Community energy is ‘smart’ energy - low carbon, economic and secure. Our team have delivered many such solutions and are well placed to develop an energy solution tailored to meet your planning requirements and the needs of your customers.

What is community energy?
Community energy is low carbon and renewable heat and power. It is produced locally and distributed via a heat network or private wire arrangement. As it is produced close to where it’s needed, community energy reduces transmission losses and, over the longer term, lowers the cost of energy.
Energy Centre
The ESCoAn Energy Service Company (ESCo) is a commercial structure created specifically to deliver a community energy service to your development. We often provide funding to projects and can assume full responsibility for the design, build maintenance and operation of the energy centre.
Case StudiesCranbrook (Above)
One of the largest district heating schemes outside London. - Lowering CO
2 emissions
by 13,000 tonnes each year.
The scheme, at Cranbrook near Exeter in Devon includes 3,500 homes, a 1.4 million sq ft business park of commercial and retail units on a 107 acre Skypark. All this is connected to an energy centre via a heat network.
E.ON is responsible for the design and operation of the heat distribution network (including heat interface units) and energy centre, that will pipe heat into the individual homes and commercial premises. Combined heat and power and biomass technologies contribute to the renewable energy production. Cranbrook is expected to provide over 6,500 new jobs locally.
Colindale (Right)
Colindale meets the zero carbon on-site carbon compliance standard. Working with developer Fairview New Homes, in Northwest London, E.ON will design, build, operate and maintain a ‘decentralised energy centre’. 600kW CHP, 500kW Biomass boilers and gas boilers will provide low carbon heat to 1067 new homes, commercial and leisure buildings.
We are providing a private wire from the CHP directly to the on-site hotel. This will greatly reduce system energy losses and therefore costs to the hotel operator.
Once completed in 2014, houses built to CSH rating level four will achieve over 60% CO
2 saving, meeting
the zero carbon on-site carbon compliance standard. Residents also save money on their energy bills.
Remote monitoring, via a building management system, allows us to pick up operational and fault information remotely. This ensures the efficient running of the infrastructure and maximises customer satisfaction.
