Thoroughly read the entire unit of competency

Review the Australian Qualifications Framework descriptor (AQF)

Unpack each unit of competency.

Developed by national Industry Skills Councils in consultation with industry stakeholders and other interested parties.

COMPETENCY STANDARDS

The specification of knowledge and skill and the application of that knowledge and skill within an occupation to the standard of performance required in employment.

Or, being able to apply relevant knowledge and skill to perform workplace tasks to the required standard

Are lists of skills and knowledge required to perform effectively in a particular job or job function

They do not describe procedures necessary to perform the job

A particular job role will be made up of a number of units of competence.

TP’s contain competency standards which reflect the needs of the industry

Industry Standards – relating to a specific industry eg WRR02

Cross- Industry Standards – competencies common to a range of industries eg TAA could cover a number of industries

Enterprise Standards – developed by specific organisations eg McDonalds, Kodak, Woolworths etc

Contain a number of components which provide guidance on suitable assessment and training activities and outcomes.

Competency Standards describe the skills and knowledge required by a person to work effectively in their industry area.

It is further developed through Elements and Performance Criteria

Assessment tools cannot be developed without a thorough knowledge of these competency standards.
