1. Tacoma City Council approves con-tract for Hilltop community center aquatic facility (Tacoma Daily Index, April 2, 2015) — A long-shuttered community swimming pool and aquatics facility in Tacoma's Hilltop neighbor-hood is expected to re-open next year following major upgrades and new amenities. A ground-breaking ceremony for the $7.5 million project will be held on Thurs., May 7.
2. Tacoma Dome: For Amy McBride, War-hol's rooftop � ower is larger than the Dome (Tacoma Daily Index, April 14, 2015) — City of Tacoma Arts Administrator Amy McBride is a strong advocate for a plan to cover the Tacoma Dome in art designed more than 30 years ago by the Pop artist Andy Warhol.
3. Tacoma to donate iconic Lincoln Dis-trict street lamps (Tacoma Daily Index, April 29, 2015) — Dozens of iconic, bright red orna-mental street lamps that once lined the Lincoln International Business District are being offered up for donation by the City of Tacoma. In March, the City replaced more than two-dozen street lamps with new light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs. As a result, the old � xtures have been repackaged in boxes that were used to ship the new light � xtures, and are now being offered up by the City.
4. Tacoma Dome: How Ellida Lathrop helped to shape public art at the Dome (Tacoma Daily Index, April 6, 2015) — In 1975, arts advocate and Tacoma resident Ellida Lath-rop led a campaign to enact the One Percent for Art Ordinance in Tacoma. The law was exactly what it sounded like: one percent of the budget to construct public buildings would be set aside for public art. Five years later, Tacoma voters ap-proved a plan to spend $28 million to build the Tacoma Dome. The ordinance set aside $280,000 for public art at the Tacoma Dome and drew in-terest from blue chip artists, including Pop artist Andy Warhol.
5. Tacoma Dome: Before Warhol's � ow-er, Lyn Messenger drew diamonds on the Dome (Tacoma Daily Index, March 30, 2015) — Lyn Messenger has a special connection to Ta-coma. A local resident and architect for nearly 50 years, Messenger was a member of the original
engineering and design team that built the Taco-ma Dome, one of the largest wood-domed arenas in the world. What's more, Messenger designed the triangular, light-blue, diamond-shaped pat-tern that has covered the Dome's roof since the indoor arena opened to the public on April 21, 1983.

City of Tacoma, Environmental Ser- vices, Science and Engineering, Divi- sion Manager, Geoffrey M. Smyth, P.E., 326 East D Street, Tacoma, WA 98421, is seeking coverage under the Washington State Department of Ecol- ogy’s Construction Stormwater NPDES and State Waste Discharge General Permit.
The proposed project, Point Defi- ance Park, is located at 5401 North Pearl Street, Tacoma, WA, Pierce County. This project involves 10 acres of soil disturbance for utilities con- struction activities. Stormwater will be discharged to North Pearl Street out- fall.
Any persons desiring to present their views to the Washington State
Department of Ecology regarding this application, or interested in Ecology’s action on this application, may notify Ecology in writing no later than 30 days of the last date of publication of this notice. Ecology reviews public comments and considers whether dis- charges from this project would cause a measurable change in receiving wa- ter quality and, if so, whether the pro- ject is necessary and in the overriding public interest according to Tier II anti- degradation requirements under WAC 173-201A-320.
