Remote Control

• Gamma Rays (Relative size: Atomic

Nucleus)

• X Rays ( Relative Size: Atom)

• Ultraviolet Rays (Relative size: DNA)

• Visible Light Waves (Relative size:

Bacteria)

• Infrared Waves (Relative size: Pin Tip)

• Microwaves (Relative size: Dice)

• Radio Waves (Relative size: Mountain

Range)

• EM (Electromagnetic Waves) are similar to Ocean Waves.

• They are both energy waves which means they transmit energy.

• EM Produced by the vibration of charge particles

• Have electrical and magnetic properties

• Unlike ocean waves require water

• EM waves travel through the vacuum of space at the constant speed of light

• Crests and troughs like ocean waves.

• The distance between crests is the wavelength.

• Wavelength is measured in meters.

• The number of these crests that has a given point in one second is described as the frequency of the wave.

• One wave or a cycle is called Hertz (Hz)

• Radio waves has the slowest frequency and carries less energy

• Gamma Rays have the fastest frequency and carries the most energy

• A German Physicist Wilhelm Roentgen

discovered the X-ray in 1895 November

8th.

• Wavelength: 0.001 to 10 nanometers

• Frequency: 30 petahertz – 30 exahertz

• Energy: 100ev to 100kev

X Rays up to 10kev is soft x Rays

From 10kev to 120kev is hard x Rays, due

to their penetrating abilities.

• X Rays up to 10kev is soft x Rays

• From 10kev to 120kev is hard x Rays, due

to their penetrating abilities.

Soft• Soft X Rays hardly

penetrate materials.

Hard

• Hard X Rays can penetrate some solids and liquids and all the uncompressed gases.

• X Rays can also revile an object’s

temperature

• the Hotter the object is the shorter that

wavelength is.

• Our sun has a surface temperature of

6,000 degrees

• With the Chandra satellite you can see

some star explosions which is ten

thousand light years away from here the

earth.
