About Oscar Breed: Chihuahua Age: 3 years Size: 9.5 lbs. Coat: Smooth Color: Blonde Nickname: Puddy

More About Oscar I adopted Oscar when he was 6 weeks old.

Most dogs are not supposed to be adopted before 8 weeks, however Oscar stopped feeding from his mother at 5 ½ weeks.

I chose to adopt a smooth coat chihuahua because I live in a small apartment and only have space for a small dog. Also, because I am very busy, I needed a dog that required only minimal grooming.

Why Oscar? When I went to look at

the puppies, I chose Oscar because he was the one who was very inquisitive and active. He was climbing all over me and giving me kisses from day one.

Personality Oscar is the only chihuahua I have

ever had, so I have nothing to compare him to. I had a rottweiler for a brief time several years ago, but she was completely different from Oscar.

Oscar’s personality is VERY outgoing but also, extremely territorial. For example, if anyone comes up the stairs or knocks on the door, he barks and growls incessantly. Also, he will sit in front of the bedroom window and if anyone walks by on the sidewalk, he barks and growls at them.

But Oscar can also be playful and loving if he is in the mood.

Training Oscar was very easy to potty

train. Within two weeks of bringing him home, he was faithfully using the potty pads.

He was also fairly simple to train behavior-wise. He knows how to sit, lie down, fetch, jump, rollover, shake, wave, give high 5, AND the coolest thing of all…he has a HUGE vocabulary for a dog. Yes, he knows all of his toys individually by name!

What Oscar Loves to Do!!!

Oscar’s favorite things to do are sleep, eat, walk, and wrestle with mommy!

What Does Oscar Hate to Do? Oscar hates riding in

the car, having his nails clipped, and wearing clothes.

Joy to the World Oscar gives me joy

because he is so full of life and gets excited about everything. Dogs are wonderful because they live in the moment, and Oscar teaches me to do the same.

Behavior Issues Chewing…on everything. He digs used tissues out of the trash and

eats them sometimes. He is so smart that he has become a

master of manipulation, meaning that he knows exactly what to do in order to get his way.

Mi Familia Oscar is definitely a

member of the family. I don’t have any kids, so I consider him an “only child”. I couldn’t love him any more if I had given birth to him myself! He’s spoiled rotten and takes full advantage of it!

Recommendations Chihuahuas are not for everyone. They are a

high energy breed dog that can be very demanding in their needs and wants.

Chihuahuas don’t usually do well with small children.

Because they are very protective and territorial, Chihuahuas are usually a one owner dog, meaning that they will bond with only one member of the family and not listen to or respect anyone else.

History of the Breed Chihuahuas are the only

breed of “dog” we know to have descended from a fox, the fennec fox to be exact.

Chihuahuan ancestors originated, not from Mexico as formerly believed, but from the desert regions of Southern Morocco, Egypt, and Sudan.

Types of Chihuahuas
