Broden Ford Victoria
Broden Ford is a 28 year old percussionist, percussion teacher,
adjudicator and conductor from Melbourne, Victoria. Broden has made a name for himself as
one of Australia's premier brass band percussionists, having previously spent eight years as the principal percussionist of Kew Band Melbourne (2005-12) and
now in his fifth year as principal percussionist at Box Hill City Band (2013-present). His performances have resulted in Broden's selection in the inaugural National Australia Brass in 2008, progressing to the position of principal percussionist in 2013 and taking on the role of Head Percussion Tutor with the National Australia
Brass Youth Band (2014-present). In 2015, Broden was selected as principal percussionist for the inaugural season of Victoria Brass. Broden was the chief percussion adjudicator at the 2016 Australian
National Band Championships in Gawler, South Australia, adjudicating all percussion categories for both the Junior and Open Percussion Championship.
As a conductor, Broden has directed Box Hill City Band's training program, Box Hill Academy Brass (2013 & 2015), and later established their 'feeder' band, Whitehorse Brass (2015-present). In August 2015, Broden accepted an invitation to be the musical director at the City of Traralgon Band, and
has conducted them in numerous high profile performances and competition wins, including winning the 2016 & 2017 Open ‘C’ Grade Victorian State Championships. Broden also teaches the percussionists at the City of Traralgon Training and Development Program. In 2017, Broden established the Box Hill Academy of Percussion, which aims to educate,
develop and inspire the next generation of percussionists in the Box Hill community. Broden is currently employed by Wesley College (Glen Waverley campus),
Avila College and St. Bernard's College as a percussion and drum kit teacher, ensemble tutor and conductor.
Simon Cawthorn
Tasmania Born in Forrestfield, Western Australia, Simon is a graduate from the Tasmanian
Conservatorium of Music where he studied trumpet and flugelhorn with Yoram Levy and Bruce Lamont. Simon has been an assessor of pre-tertiary
music performance for various colleges in Southern Tasmania and an adjudicator, most recently at the TBL state Solo and party and also the National Band
Championships and Victorian State Band Championships in 2017. He has played in wind and brass bands in Tasmania and Australia including The National Australia Brass (NAB), Hobart Wind Symphony, and has been privileged to travel alongside bands to perform at various festivals in Japan, China, Canada and America. He
has also performed in a number of well-known bands and musicals such as The Temptations, Cats, Beauty and the Beast, Phantom of the Opera and Dusty. Simon has also been successful at several state and national
competitions as a soloist including winning the National Open Flugelhorn
competition at the ANBC in Adelaide 2011.
In 2013 Simon was one of three conductors in Australia and New Zealand to be awarded an Adrienne, Lady Stewart Conducting Bursary to study
conducting under Professor David King. He also received the Tasmanian Bands League Badge of Honour in 2016 for services to community banding.
Simon has also been musical director for a number of concert and brass bands including the Hobart and Glenorchy City Concert Brass, Tasmanian Youth Orchestra Wind Ensemble and teacher in charge of bands in several schools and colleges.
He conducted the Hobart Senior and Junior Brass Bands from 2005 to 2011 where they were very successful in competition and in this time the Senior Brass Band progressed from ‘D’ Grade to ‘A’ Grade in just six years
