Background The SNA as a Tool for Improving Economic
Statistics The SNA is
one the most important statistical systems and frameworks in official statistics.
It provides an international standard of concepts, definitions, classifications, and methodology for economic statistics and accounts
Background
There are many challenges confronting the compilation of economic statistics,
many African countries are still at a relatively early stage of development of national accounts.
national accounts are not harmonized across regions even where there are monetary unions.
Problems
Limited Human, Financial, and Technical Resources
Weak Statistical Capacity and Infrastructure Unharmonious National Accounts Systems on
the Continent Inconsistency and Incompleteness in the
Coverage of the Economy
Challenges in implementation

(i) the political will and economic ability to create the legal framework for 2008 SNA ;
(ii) taking into account the specific situation of countries and ressources availables
