1 General
The CAN-WiFi-Gateway (CWG) is intended to be used as an interface between Electric Vehicle Communication Controller (EVCC) on the vehicle side and the Supply Equipment Communication Controller (SECC) in the charging station.
Figure 1-1 CAN-WiFi-GW
The CWG has the following functions:
> Management of operational states: start-up phase / shut-down phase
> Self-diagnosis
> Forwarding of charging communication (TLS encryption by host controller)
> Operating state control
> Information output on status and self-diagnosis

2 System Architecture
The communication between Vector Controller Electric Vehicle Communication Controller (VC-EVCC-P) and CAN-WiFi-GW (CWG) is CAN-based. The communication between CWG and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) is WiFi-based. In this context, the VC-EVCC-P is also referred to as host controller.
Figure 2-1 System Overview
After establishment of the WiFi connection the charging communication between the EVSE and the vehicle (via VC-EVCC-P) starts. As part of the charging sequence the EVSE connects the inverted pantograph to the DC rails of the vehicle.
If the charging sequence is finished or interrupted the EVSE knows when to retract the inverted pantograph from the vehicle due to the established communication connection.
The CWG must only be operated together with a host control unit that has been explicitly approved by Vector. The CWG can be implemented in an available infrastructure. The configuration of the required parameters is done by the host controller.

4 Software
The software is divided into the following memory blocks:
Figure 4-1 Memory Blocks/ Features
4.1 Bootloader
The CWG contains only one bootloader stage that is based on a master slave concept developed by Vector. The CWG is the slave, while the EVCC (Host) is the master. The main purpose of the bootloader is to update
a) The application software of the CWG executed on the Micro Controller Unit (MCU)
b) The firmware of the u-blox chip connected to the MCU
To ensure that only valid software is executed checksums are used.
4.2 Application
The application consists of two major features:
1. Initialization of the u-blox chip
2. Transferring data between CAN and the u-blox chip
The data transfer is realized via a propriety protocol on top of CAN TP.
Additionally, the application has several minor features:
- Power supply voltage monitoring
- Host controlled state management
- Watchdog
