Technology and Me.

Felisha Marghilano

At the beginning of Dr. Teston’s module of Technologies and Future of Writing, I was “passively adopted” to technology.

Uncooperative Uncritically resistant

Passive adoption

Receptive to and articulate affordances

+ constraints

Before Dr. Teston’s module, I only used Facebook on a daily basis. Facebook allowed me to interact with friends from around the world, yet it limited my view to other forms of technology available.

Before this module, I actually already had a Twitter account.

But I never used it.I thought Twitter was a big away message.

I thought tweets consisted of letting the world know that…

When I thought of Google I assumed it was just

Bit.ly is a service I had never heard of before. It shortens a URL in order to embed (post) it in a limited space, like Twitter. You can also track them.

My blogs were lengthy and full of unnecessary words.

Passive adoption

Receptive to and articulate affordances

+ constraints

But after introduced and accessing these technologies after being, I have learned how to use each technology and how they can work for me. Now I now find myself as “ receptive to and [able to] articulate affordances + constraints.”

“Many have moved away from the idea that technology in education is about learning from computers (for

example, computer-based instruction) to the idea that technology can

promote the learners engagement in activities supported by tools, which

may lead to substantial performance gains (Jonassen 2000).”

I now know Twitter has the purpose of helping people share and connect.

I now have the skills to use Google Reader

View tweets.Search other blogs.

View updated blogs.

And Google Docs.

I can collaboratively work on a document with my peers.

It can be accessed any where there is internet.

Information can be documented, saved, and viewed later

I can now use bit.ly

I can now add pictures, hyperlinks, and video to my blog post; I also write in shorter, easier to read sentences.

As for You Tube, I never realized there was more than music videos and parodies.

There are educational videos available, too.

With that, I plan on continuing on with my adventures through new technologies.

Here are some technologies I am exploring right now…

And?...That my social means and ability to use technology has changed since I’ve started Dr. Teston’s module?

How does it all tie together?

“To that end, digital literacy isn't about using the frames in a WYSIWYG interface, or about placing content inside template-based tools. Digital literacy is understanding what made the tools in the first place. And the broader social and technological factors that impact the development and use of those tools, forms, and platforms.”
