Sink or Float

Using the LCD projector

Lesson

• My lesson was on teaching students what things sink and float.

• Grade: First• Standards: Standard 3 Objective 2b: Compare

objects that float and sink in water.

Blues Clues

• Students played an interactive game with me on the Nick Jr. Website. I used my computer and an LCD projector to project the interactive game on the whiteboard. Because the students did not have access to the computer lab I utilized the use of one of the few roaming projectors available to the school.

Student Use of Technology

• Students took an active role in this technology activity by telling me if the objects would sink or float. My students loved this game. They had a great time guessing if objects would sink or flat when put into water.

Technology Use is Essential:

• The game is a real learning activity. The students are not just viewing the screen but participating in their learning.

• I added this technology in as a motivator. Students don’t get to see a lot of technology in their school. This activity not only exposed them to technology but allowed them to learn in the process.

Focus on Learning Task:

• This technology was used to help students learn a concept.

• Students would vote on what they though would sink and what they thought would float. After we would discuss what happened.

Added Value:

• This would not have been easier to do without the technology.

• I could have brought in water, but the students respond so well to the game.

• I did not have to prepare materials, it was already done for me.

What Went Well and What to Change

• The students really responded great to the game.

• They loved using the projector, it was a nice change.

• I would try to schedule the computer lab next time so all the students could play the game individually

• I would do the activity longer, the students really responded well to it.
