Heating & Cooling - BASICS

CONVECTION: transfer of heat energy through a gas or liquid by movement of currents

CONDUCTION: transfer of energy through solid matter from particle to particle

RADIATION: electromagnetic waves which directly transport heat energy through space

EVAPORATION (not true heat transfer but very useful): when a liquid changes to a gas it uses up heat and in doing so, cools an object or a liquid in contact with it

IMPORTANT FUNCTION

Heating & Cooling –

THERMAL MASS & INSULATION

Heating & Cooling – PASSIVE SOLAR DESIGN

The temperature of the ground below frost line is a steady

58°F (14°C) all year long.

Heating & Cooling – PASSIVE SOLAR DESIGN

Heating & Cooling – GREENHOUSES

Heating & Cooling – EARTHTUBING & GEOTHERMAL

Heating & Cooling – SOLAR WATER HEATER

Heating & Cooling – COMPOST WATER HEATER

IMPORTANT FUNCTION

Water Harvesting & Drainage

IMPORTANT FUNCTION

Wastewater Management

Wastewater Management – COMPOSTING TOILETS

Wastewater Management – WATSON WICK

To Sit or Squat…that is the question?

#6 Food Production

IMPORTANT FUNCTION

Food Production

Food Production – VERTICAL GARDENING & FARMING

Food Production – SOLVIVA

IMPORTANT FUNCTION

Energy Production & Conservation

Energy Production – ENERGY EFFICIENT COOKING

Energy Production – METHANE DIGESTERS

Energy Production – RETAINED HEAT COOKING

IMPORTANT FUNCTION
