Lung cancer

• Lung cancer can start in the wind pipe(trachea) ,the main airway (bronchus)or the lung tissue.

• lung cancer is the uncontrolled growth of abnormal cells that start off in one or both lungs; usually in the cells that line the air passages.

• There are various test has been taken for lung cancer at every stages to know how much it spread over the body and effected the lungs.

Test to diagnose lung cancer

• If you have symptoms related to lung cancer, your doctor can order number of tests to look for cancer cells.

• And to check how much its effected the lungs and other nodes.

• In order to diagnose lung cancer, your doctor may recommend various types of tests.

• Here are few tests for lung cancer that need to be taken to diagnose it.

Imaging tests

• Imaging test is nothing but an x-ray .An X-ray of your lungs may reveal an abnormal mass or nodule.

• A CT scan can reveal small lesions in your lungs that might not be detected on an X-ray.

• Through the x-ray or CT scan we can identify the lung cancer for the person whether it is mild or severe.

Sputum cytology

• Sputum differs from saliva, in that it contains cells that line the respiratory passages.

• If you have a cough and are producing sputum, looking at the sputum under the microscope can sometimes reveal the presence of lung cancer cells.

• A sample of mucus or phlegm brought up by coughing is looked at under a microscope.

• It is one of the way to identify the lung cancer who has symptoms about it.

Tissue sample (biopsy).

• A Lung biopsy removes a small piece of lung tissue which can be looked at under a microscope.

• Biopsy can be done in four ways. This method used depends on where the sample will be taken from and your overall health.

• Bronchoscopic biopsy, needle biopsy, open biopsy, Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery .

Bronchoscopy

• A thin flexible tube with a tiny camera is inserted through the nose or mouth and down into the lungs.

• A bronchoscope also can be used to take a small tissue sample for biopsy.

Fine needle aspiration

• The skin is scrubbed clean and a local anesthetic is injected to numb the area where the biopsy needle will be inserted.

• A very small needle is placed into the tumor. Suction is used to remove a small amount of tissue, which is then looked at under a microscope.

Open biopsy

• An open biopsy is a way of checking the whole lump for cancerous cells, rather than just a part of it.

• An open biopsy uses surgery to make a cut (incision) between the ribs and remove a sample. of lung tissue

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery • The VATS approach allows the surgeon to access the problem

area by using an endoscope and other small endoscopic instruments and endostaplers.

• These small instruments can be inserted into the chest through small 2-4 cm incisions made between the ribs.

• The scope allows the surgeon to view, under high magnification, the cancerous lung tissue and manipulate the instruments to effectively transect and remove the tissue from the body

• These ways helps to identify lung cancer and its stages .we can also identify symptoms and treatment about lung cancer by visiting http://lungcancersymptomsx.com/.
