CATEGORY AWARDS The judging process begins by jurying the photos. Those photos that make it through the jurying process are then judged and scored on each of the following areas: Technical Quality, Composition, Impact, Originality, and Artistic Appeal. Each juried photo is given 1-10 points in each of the 4 areas with a possible top score of 40 points from each judge resulting in a possible top score of 120 points. The judge’s decisions are final. Scores are recorded on a spreadsheet, totaled and sorted to reflect the best scores within each category. Any resulting ties are re-scored by the judges. Since the winning photos are determined ahead of time by scores, we are able to print them in our show program for your enjoyment.
SPECIALTY AWARDS These are awards sponsored by individuals and groups that have a ‘special’ interest in the subject; which they have chosen to issue an award. Some sponsors pick their winner, but others choose to have a judge pick the winner. Prizes in this area include ribbons, cash awards, and gift certificates. If you are interested in sponsoring an award; have any comments and/or suggestions about these awards; please see us at the desk or visit our website at www.wideanglephotoclub.org.

2020 POWER OF PHOTOGRAPHY JUDGES
Photographer Janet Fikar seeks to share captured images of the world around us through the medium of digital photography. She has been actively pursuing photography since 2007 and enjoys sharing her Fine Art Photography with others. Her photography depicts her love of composition that draws the eye to the interplay of light, color, and shadow. Other than nature photography, Janet has a wide interest of subjects which span from the majestic landscape to the micro details of a water droplet. During Janet’s career she worked primarily in the Software Development business and now, retired, she is enjoying her time expressing herself through her photography. For Janet, photography is her passion, her relaxation, recreation and her reflection. Her camera helps her take the time to look around for color, light, and shapes so that she can capture the everyday beauty of what might have otherwise been missed. She draws inspiration from the nature all around her and discovers the magic in familiar places seen with a fresh eye.
Harry Purcell, native Virginian, graduate of Virginia Tech in 1964. Harry is an an artist in mul-tiple mediums which include oil painting, stained glass, wood carving and furniture building. His first serious photography began in early 2004 with a pho-tography trip to China. His first POP award was 1st place in Landscape from the China trip. Since that time he has been a multiple award winner in all POP categories. Typically he will enter 15 to 20 photos in the POP contest. His photography trips have taken him to over 88 countries an territories.
