DIRECTOR'S CORNER....
Thank you GATRA! We now have a spanking new GATRA bus. It’s a great replacement for the older one in our fleet. We are thrilled to be
chosen for the replacement!
More and more new people are coming through our doors, probably because of the expansion of activities and events. Some ex-amples of new classes are Tap dancing, medi-tation, Yoga, the spring author series, geneal-
ogy, and lunch and learn.
As you know our work here at the Senior Center is ongoing. I am committed to work-ing with all the seniors that come here on a daily basis. Whether seniors come in for Thursday lunches and Bingo or for fitness and intermediate computer classes, musical performance with Marie, Canasta, fitness classes, book group, author talks, and more special events, seniors’ input is invaluable. We cannot change the world. We can only make great changes at the Senior Center.
NEW! Genealogy classes star t on Wednes-day, March 23rd at 7pm. The cost is $25 per person for 6 classes run by Fred Channel of the South Shore Genealogy Society and special ge-nealogy speakers. Limited to 20 people. Regis-tration is strongly suggested. Rides available
upon request.

March is National Nutrition Month! 4 Types of Foods to Help Boost Your Memory
If you’re feeling forgetful, it could be due to a lack of sleep or a number of other reasons including genetics, level of physical activity, and lifestyle and environmental factors. However, there’s no doubt that diet plays a major role in brain health. The best menu for boosting memory and brain function encourages good blood flow to the brain - much like what you’d eat to nourish and protect your heart!
Strengthen Recall by Adding These Foods to your Diet Eat your veggies. Getting adequate vegetables, especially cruciferous ones including broccoli, cabbage and dark leafy greens may help improve memory. Be sweet on berries and cherries. Berries, especially dark ones such as blackberries, blueberries and cherries, are a rich source of anthocyanins and other flavonoids that may boost memory function. You can reap these ben-efits from fresh, frozen or dried berries and cherries. Get adequate omega-3 fatty acids. Essential for good brain health, seafood, algae and fatty fish, including salmon, bluefin tuna, sardines and herring are some of the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids. Substitute fish for meat a couple of times each week to get a healthy dose. Work in walnuts. Well known for a positive impact on heart health, walnuts also may improve memory. Snack on a handful of walnuts or add them to oatmeal or salad for crunch.
These foods are not just good for the brain, they sustain a healthy heart and all parts of the body. While there’s
no guarantee that these foods will help you remember where you put your keys tomorrow, over time they can
support lifelong good health.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO SCAN IN! Some people are forgeng to scan in when they enter the building. You must scan in for each and every program or event that you
aend that day. If you have forgoen or misplaced your scan card, you can simply sign in with your first name and telephone number. We need to know who is in the building at all !mes.
Our aendance numbers are also used for repor!ng purposes and for receiving grants. It is important that we COUNT YOU and that we
can COUNT ON YOU to scan in. (Please note that it also saves us a lot of !me. If you haven’t scanned in, we must do it separately and

Kingston Spring Author Talks:
“13 Hours” Author To Launch Series on March 1
KINGSTON--Most Americans have heard of Benghazi, Libya and the events that occurred on September 11,
2012. Terrorists attacked the U.S. State Department’s Special Mission Compound and a nearby CIA station
called the Annex. A team of six Americans fought to protect the Americans that were stationed there, but
other events of that evening have been the center of much controversy and investigation. Author Mitchell
Zuckoff and the Annex Security Team set the record straight in their compelling bestseller 13 Hours: the In-
side Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi. Zuckoff will open the Kingston Spring Author Talks se-
ries on Tuesday March 1 at 7 p.m.
The film 13 Hours: the Secret Soldiers of Benghazi was adapted from the book and was released as a film in
January of 2016.
Mr. Zuckoff is the author of seven books and is a professor of journalism at Boston University. He spent two
decades as a reporter, much of that time with the Boston Globe, where he was an investigative reporter and
national correspondent. During his newspaper career he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in investigative
reporting.
The ongoing author series is sponsored by the Kingston Public Library in cooperation with the Kingston
Council on Aging and the Kingston Public Library Foundation through an initiative called “What’s The Big
Idea?: A Partnership for Lifelong Learning.”
The spring series will also feature visits from Robert Knox, author of Suosso's Lane, a novel based on the
Plymouth roots of the tragic Sacco-Vanzetti story of the 1920s; Kate Clifford Larson, author of Rosemary:
The Hidden Kennedy Daughter; and Stephen Kurkjian, author of Master Thieves: The Boston Gangsters who
pulled off the World's Greatest Art Heist, the story of the Gardner Museum art heist 25 years ago. Stay tuned
for details on these and additional talks.
The series is sponsored in part by WATD 95.9 FM Radio and Marty’s Buick GMC of Kingston. The programs
are held at the Kingston Council on Aging, 30 Evergreen Street.
Westwinds Bookshop of Duxbury will provide copies of books for sale and signing.

THANK YOU JANET AND TOM!!!
This is the story of Jan and Tom Croce. We all know them and have seen them hard at work in the kitchen every Thursday at the Kingston Senior Center. Jan was at the helm, leading the vol-unteers with healthy food selections, cooking, shopping, and handling all the details that went into serving 50-80 diners each week. Tom was always at her side helping, while simultaneously working on the board and also past chair of the Kingston Council on Aging. They are now both
retiring, Jan as the Kitchen Coordinator, and Tom as a Volunteer in the kitchen.
But, this story began a long time ago....58 years ago, when Jan and Tom were married after knowing each other for just six months. Tom then went off to Andrews Air Force Base as a me-chanic, and Jan waited in Washington D.C. for Tom to return. They came to Massachusetts and expanded the family with one daughter, Sharon, and two sons, Tommy and Randy. Kingstoni-
ans for 50 years,
Jan was artistic. She loved ceramics and loved to decorate cakes. She worked for Danforth Bakery, together they owned a pizza and sub shop and later opened Jan's Catering. Tom worked in hospital maintenance management and even worked for Lechmere...remember Lechmere in Cambridge. He was also a skilled carpenter. When they were not working, they danced to disco music at the Knights of Columbus, and took trips to Hawaii, Bermuda, the Bahamas and Aru-
ba. They favored cruises.
Many of us know that Tom has been battling cancer for the last 5 years. However, it never stopped him from helping out. Nothing stopped him from anything as long as he had Jan by his side. They are looking forward to spending time with their children, their seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Don't be surprised if they show up for a visit. One thing we know for sure is that Jan and Tom Croce will always remain part of the Kingston Council on Aging
and its mission.

Lisa Budge-Johnson from Plymouth Sheriff's Community Outreach Program opened our eyes and minds to ways to avoid being scammed here on Dec 14th. Can you guess what the most common password is? One of the most important things we can do to protect ourselves is to keep social security and medicare cards in a safe place at home. Do not carry them around. Social Security card number is needed only for: passport, new job tax forms, if you are applying for anything that requires a credit check (credit cards, loans, etc) and winnings at lottery headquarters. If asked for social security number, ask for alternative way, such as license for picture
ID and second ID.
All that is needed for Identity Theft is your full name, date of birth and social security number. If you are a victim of Identity Theft or scamming do reach out for help. All ages are victims of these crimes and the more they are reported the better for all of us. We hope to have Lisa back in the spring to repeat this class. Defi-
nitely worth attending!!!! P.S. The answer to most common password: 1234.
FALLS PREVENTION, BALANCE, AND MIND BODY CLASSES ALL IN ONE Certified Nurse and Yoga teacher Margie Canty will hold approximately 7 classes on how to prevent falls, fear of falling, maintaining balance and using the concept of the mind-body connections. These classes are funded by the Massachusetts Council on Aging. Starting with an information session on Thursday, March 10th 7-9 pm, the remainder of the classes will be on Wednesdays, starting March 23rd, also 7-9pm. Please sign up at the front desk at the Kingston Council on Aging or call 781-585-0511 for more information. Margie Canty also teaches Yoga classes here, and is connected to the Mind-Body Clinic at the Beth Israel Deaconess Cen-
ters.

tures, oil painting, quilting, canasta, whist, bridge AND MORE. They can even form their own
special activity group. Coming up in 2016, a chef series, more authors, Tap dance, a Saturday
evening spring fling. For more information, call Marilyn Greenstein, 781-585-0512.
