From The Pastor’s Pen-- March 2014 The last dance, the final curtain call, the epilogue, the swan song, the closing, the benediction, what more can be said... “and in conclusion” You have heard words like these before. Pastors have come and pastors have gone, but the ministry continues because Jesus said to Peter, “upon you I will build my church. And the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” You are like Peter. With your faith there is nothing you cannot do. You are strong. You are resilient. You are uniquely made for today and tomorrow. And with God “All things are possible to those who believe.” Allow me to share a paraphrase from Philippians:
1 1-bTo all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Oakland, together with the
overseers and deacons: 2 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and
the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 I thank my God every time I remember you. 4 In all my prayers for all of
you, I always pray with joy 5 because of your partnership in the gospel from
the first day until now, 6 being confident of this, that he who began a good
work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
7 It is right for me to feel this way about all of you, since I have you in my
heart and, whether I am in chains or defending and confirming the gospel, all
of you share in God’s grace with me. 8 God can testify how I long for all of
you with the affection of Christ Jesus.
9 And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in
knowledge and depth of insight, 10 so that you may be able to discern what is
best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, 11 filled with the
fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and
praise of God.
Thank you Oakland Church for who you’ve been, all that you are, and
all you will be...
It has been a joy to serve Jesus as your pastor...

NOTES, MISSION OPPORTUNTIES and ANNOUNCEMENTS
News from your Deacon Fellowship:News from your Deacon Fellowship:News from your Deacon Fellowship:News from your Deacon Fellowship: Pulpit Committee Expectations:
The job of the Pulpit Committee is to find one pastoral candidate to submit to the Oakland Baptist Church
membership. The committee will typically go through many candidates using their resume’ submitted to
the committee by the Goshen Association, The Virginia Baptist Board, and sometimes individuals or friends
will submit the committee an application of potential candidates.
Who should serve on this committee?
They are spiritually mature, people of prayer, and seeking the Lord’s will.
They set a Godly example in the congregation.
They are active in the church; not just casual attenders.
They are active at Oakland for more than a year. It is good to have a mix of people with varied age
differences.
They can understand the pressures of pastors.
They have a clear understanding of Oakland’s values, mission, and goals.
They shall be available 3 or more days a week and meet long ours to go over resume’s, plan trips to
churches, and have a family willing to share them with Oakland during this important task for God’s
family.
We must all remember as the body of Christ, God has some exciting things in store for Oakland Baptist
Church as we week His will and elect the pastor He has for us.
Words from Women on Missions….
March 2 – 9: Annie Armstrong Easter Offering & Week of Prayer for North American Mission The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering® is much more than an offering envelope and an annual missions-giving emphasis. When people give to the offering, 100 percent of their gift will be transformed into missionary salaries and ministry supplies. Those missionaries and supplies will help others hear the message of Christ and respond in faith to His offer of salvation. Time and again our missionaries relate how the offering is their lifeblood. They know that behind each penny given, there is a Southern Baptist who believes in what they do and are affirming the need to equip them to share the gospel with those who need a Savior. Check out the information on the WOM Bulletin Board outside the copy room. Oakland’s goal is $1,500. I know we can surpass this goal. Please prayerfully give. March 2014 Mission Projects Coeburn Lunch Project We will collect the following:
• jars of peanut butter and jelly
• single serving fruit & pudding cups
• single serving bags of chips
• juice boxes
Please place items in box provided under the table outside the copy room. Questions? See Sharon Kincaid or Pat Groome.

Words from Women on Missions….continued Operation Christmas Child This month we will collect brushes & combs and hair accessories for girls. Currently, we have received 30 toothbrushes and 30 tubes of toothpaste and 30 bars of soap. Our goal for this year is to prepare 100 shoeboxes – 50 girls and 50 boys (ages 10 -14). If you missed a particular month, items will be accepted throughout the year. Place all donations on the table outside the copy room. Questions? Contact Sharon Kincaid at 804.439.1417 or e-mail at grammykincaid@yahoo.com.
Ladies Tea – March 16 from 2 – 5 p.m. Ladies (ages 6th grade and up) are invited to join us for our Ladies Tea. We will enjoy a time of fellowship, play some fun “tea” games, have the Secret Pal reveal and hear guest speaker, Jubilee Koen. Jubilee served 2 years in Central Asia among an unengaged unreached people group from 2008 – 2010. When she moved to a strict Muslim nation, there were few, if any, known believers. When she left, a handful of believers started meeting together. She soon fell in love with those lost in the darkness of Islam. She says, “I have been given value every day of my life and these women have not been given value at any
level and are living without hope. God has given me a passion to bring His name and truth, to be His heart in utter darkness.” After completing 30 hours in an Islamic Studies program at seminary in 2011, she moved full time to Mongolia to work for Samaritan’s Purse for two years. During this time, Jubilee was responsible for training local believers and staff to disciple and follow up with children and families returning home from open heart surgery in the USA. Now she is headed back to Central Asia full time, to plant her life, share the Gospel, and start multiplying churches in a people group where there are currently no known believers. You do not have to participate in the Secret Pals to attend. Invite a friend. Bring a scarf, a small rug or bath towel, your tea cup and a snack to share. Questions? See Sharon Kincaid or Pat Groome.
