Library services started at the Preparatory School Library in 2013

Going to move to the main library building at the end of 2015

Aims to provide high quality library materials in existing and emerging future formats to deliver excellent services

We do not have to have all the materials, because we have the ability&flexibility to find and serve all required materials

We believe in sharing resources

As in many fields, the OA is also studied with its many different aspects within the library science

The OA is now discussed by librarians in scope of ILL services, that provides one of the most customized services

OA & ILL

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

OA resources offer an access via numerous media without financial, legal or technical restrictions

Information became accessible, supported by legal and technical features that enabled its presentation within some standards; however, researchers still need more information and more

professionally given library services to add value to their studies

Adding value to research

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

Although there are many developments concerning studies, content, policy, strategy, regulations, infrastructure and services of the OA, it is still too early to claim that the presentation of open publication and data are presented on required standards within

determined regulations and infrastructure; there is still not a complete system that would enable connections between

countries and institutions.

There is still a way to go…

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

Researches on information seeking behaviors of users show that researchers prefer conducting their researches by using search

engines such as Google or Google Scholar at first, in order to access most reliable information resources, including in libraries.

Users love search engines

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

Because the institutional repositories, where OA materials are indexed and offered for service, do not follow the same meta data standards as the Google Scholar, users will still not have

unlimited access to the data they required even if it is OA

Same meta data standards?

The only open access presentation of the resource would not be sufficient to provide a reliable information retrieval.

So, it means that…

In this process four main components needed:

• An information seeker who is aware of their information needs and able to express their needs correctly

• A well-stored, classified and registered information• Information technologies that enables access to the

registered content• Presence of an information manager/librarian to be

consulted

Information Retrieval Process

The existence of OA resources increases the necessity for research to ask for expertise of librarians, and beyond that, sets an environment for librarians to utilize their expertise,

knowledge and abilities in a more effective way.

In Other Words

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

Librarians are the guarantee of the existence and durability of the scholarly ecosystem in which they stand, by ensuring

reliable knowledge environments for their users and make it progress

We are heroes!

Expectations, expectations and expectations

Call for duty

Beyond designing, planning and presenting information services, we are required to possess abilities to adapt quickly

to new changes, obtain new abilities and have required expertise

What are the expectations?

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

The librarians are expected to promote and pursue their relations with academic and administrative managers,

academicians, IT departments, Information Science departments. At this point, the most prominent topic is the

communication.

We should learn how to speak the language of users !

Ok! Then How ?

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

Relations with all departments are the strengths of the librarians.

We need to maintain warm and top relationships with all parts included within the scholarly communication (academicians,

publishers, funds providers, IT staff, etc.).

Communicate with all

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

Expectations never ends!

But…

Call For Duty

Resource Sharing at the Crossroads, 14th IFLA ILDS Conference, İstanbul, Turkey, 1-3 October

The OA period that we stand within would be more prosperous when we, as librarians would remind ourselves that our

expertise will improve the state of things, giving abilities to make more progress than mentioned here and

more than expected from us.
