"Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

 Matthew 5:3

Every good and perfect gift is from above,

coming down from the Father . . .James 1:17

The Lord detests all the proud of heart.

Proverbs 16:5

You say, 'I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not

need a thing.' But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.

Revelation 3:17

I live in a high and holy place,        but also with him who is contrite and

lowly in spirit, Isaiah 57:15

"This is the one I esteem:        he who is humble and contrite in spirit,        and trembles at

my word.

wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom.
