Briefs From Father McMahon
Fr. McMahon Requests: Please take a moment to complete the Parishioner survey.
April 17th Fourth Sunday of Easter “All who were destined for eternal life came to believe.” (Acts 13: 48) Good Shepherd Sunday, also celebrated as Vocations Sunday, is a day to give thanks for those who have dedicated their lives to ministry. Perhaps it can be a danger to get an overly romanticized idea of what that means; rather, we should keep in mind that religious life is often compared to the gritty and even dangerous task of shepherding. Being a shepherd is very tough work, with long hours, physical demands that involve getting your hands dirty, and stretches of time that can feel downright lonely. A life of ministry, likewise, has its challenges and lonely moments. Please take time today to pray for all those who minister and shepherd in our church-and this includes teachers, lay ministers, liturgists, and dedicated working staffs paid and unpaid. Let them know that you appreciate their efforts. This is a wonderful Sunday to remember Fr. Charles Rubey who will be celebrating 50 years of ordained priesthood on April 26th. Shepherding has many faces. Father Rubey has dedicated much of his ministry to counseling and assisting the families whose lives have been torn by the tragedy of suicide and sudden human loss. Father Rubey has assisted at St. Peter Parish for many years and continues to offer mass every week with us. May God bless him in his holy work. Ad Multos Annos! I would like to thank everyone who planned and prepared our “Late Night Catechism”. It will truly be ‘a night to remember’ for many years to come. Thanks to all our patrons and sponsors for their generosity and support. May God bless our students, teachers and families for generations of faith and learning. Let us ALL continue to grow in our faith.

SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: Fourth Sunday of Easter; World Day of Prayer for Vocations Thursday: St. Anselm Friday: Earth Day; Passover begins Saturday: St. George; St. Adalbert
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Just as the early church consecrated women living alone in the world, today that consecration is available to women who take solemn vows as cloistered nuns (different from religious sisters), women who follow a way of life in communities called “secular institutes,” and laywomen. Oddly, the ritual is not permitted for religious sisters. The prayers talk about the woman’s self-gift to Christ, and her self-gift to the Church. Up until recent years, this was a solemn ceremony performed only for cloistered nuns under certain circumstances. In its new form, we have a ritual that revives a very ancient and little-known way of life. Today, a woman can live independently at home, without association with any religious sisterhood or institute, yet be consecrated to holiness and service. Normally, a ring and/or a veil may be given in the liturgy of consecration. It is a rite very different from religious profession, where the sister makes promises or vows, and is rather an expression of approval and blessing for a way of life already embraced. Unlike ancient times, which valued actual virginity, the new rite may be celebrated for anyone provided there has never been a marriage and the woman has always lived a virtuous life. —Rev. James Field, Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

CHURCH CHOIR CHALLENGE UPDATE
This Sunday, April 17th our music ministry choirs are singing at the St Vincent de Paul benefit at Drury Lane.
49 of us will be singing with hearts, minds and spirits. Please pray for us...
Musically yours,
Jeanine Kellman
First thank you to all of you for contributing with your time and energy to this exciting adventure in our music ministry. What an honor to be together and celebrate music and faith.
Let’s remember that St. Vincent de Paul is an organization which helps the poor. Truly we are a part of this-because of the singing…that is what brought us to go this next weekend; but a tangent that we can think and pray about is the organi-zation of St. Vincent de Paul which does what we are asked to do… Feed the hungry, clothe the poor, shelter for the home-less… This is an added bonus to our participation.
