SMTA of CPD I. (short version for hobbyists)
In accordance with the Convention on Biological Diversity (1992) and the recommendation of the FAO Commission on Genetic Resources, until the acceptance of a Material Transfer Agreement for the multilateral system under the aegis of FAO International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (PGRFA), the Centre for Plant Diversity supplies germplasm (PGRFA) samples free of charge under the following conditions:
The Recipient multiplies the samples in the year of the transfer, the original seeds provided are not stored for later usage and are not passed / handed over to a third parties. In the interest of obtaining seeds with sufficient quantity and quality the Recipient does his best in the process of multiplication. To avoid genetic erosion, in case of cross-pollinated species the Recipient pays a special attention to the application of proper isolation methods during the multiplication process.
The Recipient accepts and undertakes that he fills in and sends back the questionnaire not later than 31th December of the given year, which the Provider sends together with this agreement. The purpose is for the Provider to collect information on the multiplication process and the experiences regarding the usage of the accessions handed over in the frame of the agreement. Both e-mail and hard copy are acceptable for the Provider (onfarm@mail.nodik.hu, or Centre for Plant Diversity Tápiószele H-2766 Tápiószele, Külsőmező 15.).

The Provider reserves the right to check the process and backgrounds / circumstances of the multiplication. The Provider, in an emergency and in case of successful multiplication, may demand and claim for certain amount of seeds from the accession handed over. The Provider may exclude the Recipient from the additional public delivery and seed request, if the Recipient does not meet the engagements. The Provider, regarding the personal data related to the seed request given by the Recipient, acts on Act CXII of 2011 on Informational Self-determination and Freedom of Information. The Recipient permits that the Provider keeps a record of the seed request and stores the personal data of the transfer.
The samples handed over by the Provider are not registered varieties, they are GMO-free and are without treating.

„On farm” activity:
•Conservation, or at least multiplying in the original growing place.•It has long history at CPD, but today it must be strengthened because of the lack of good local curators.•At distribution the „barter” transaction is taken into account.

Together wit genetic erosion the background of common knowledge for the growing culture is vanished.
CPD: growing manuals on website.
The main experiences of direct mobilisations of GR.
The users want larger seed samples, but it can not be granted by genebank.
CPD: On its 300 hectares it tries to do all what possible, and the „on-farm” maintenance is under strengthening.
For the out-crossing crops the maintenance of their cultivars can not be solved in the „see of hybrids”.
CPD: Isolation manuals on the website and technical help.
