RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
All entrants enter and participate according to these regulations and any other conditions
as may apply to individual events and current copyright laws.
The term ‘Council’ appearing in these rules and conditions refers to the organising Council
of the Central Coast Eisteddfod Society
The term ‘competitor’ refers to the person performing. If the person performing is under
18 years of age, the parent or guardian assumes the responsibility for compliance with
these rules and conditions of entry, and MUST sign on their behalf. Council’s rules and
decisions are final and binding.
1. Unless otherwise indicated, these competitions are open to amateurs only; an amateur
being one whose regular income is not derived from the exercise of his or her talents in
the particular class for which he or she may wish to enter. Bearing in mind that the
aim of the Eisteddfod is to foster talent, the council reserves the right to vary any of the rules
where such variation is warranted in terms of that aim.
2. COPYRIGHT –This is a legal system designed to create a balance between protecting
the rights off the copyright owners and the creators of original work and allowing
public access to these works, usually for the payment of a licence fee. A copy of the
full copyright laws can be sighted at the Eisteddfod. The Council will not be liable for
any copyright infringement relating to the submission of photocopies or use of music.
Entrants should be aware of and abide by the rules of copyright. All competitors may be
required to sign copyright declaration when registering. Photocopies of items will
therefore be shredded. Competitors are advised to check also any specific instructions at
the beginning of their program.
3. No competitor who has been taught, coached or advised by an adjudicator of any section
of the present Eisteddfod in the six months proceeding April 1st, 2010 shall be eligible to
compete in this section.
4. The Council reserves the rights to amend, refuse entry, consolidate and or cancel any
section in which there are insufficient entries. The Council invests the adjudicators with
the power to withhold any prize if they consider that insufficient merit has been
displayed, or for any other reason. (Approval is at the discretion of the council)
5. Every competitor must be listed on the official entry form with the exception of
individual members of school choirs. Schools are asked to email their choir numbers
at least seven days before performance: ishbel@optusnet.com.au
6. Stage Names – Only groups may use a name other than their own. No solo competitor
in any section will be allowed to compete under any name other than his or her own.
7. Competitor ages are recognised by the Council as at 1st April 2010. In items where age
limits are specified, competitors must be prepared, if required, to produce proof of age.
The Council may withhold any prizes until this is furnished.
8.Specially Restricted Sections are open to competitors who have never won a first prize
in the discipline being entered, i.e. a first prize winner in a Ballet section is free to
enter a Specially Restricted section in Piano so long as they have never won a first prize
in any Piano Eisteddfod. This applies to any previous competition or Eisteddfod and
applies up until the entry closing date of this Eisteddfod.
9. Restricted Sections are open to competitors who have NOT won a first prize in that
category in any previous Eisteddfod or competition until the closing date of this
Eisteddfod.
10. Open means there are no restrictions.
11. First Year of Learning – no parent or teacher has taught the Competitor before 1st
September, 2009. Please place commencement date on the official entry form. Entrant
must never have competed in this section before.
12. Competitors may compete in their own age section, in the age section above and in the
open age sections, but are not permitted to repeat any performances. If a section is
unavailable in a competitor’s age group, they may compete in the closest age division
available.
13. Repeats - No competitor is permitted to perform the same item in more than one section.
A change in music or minor routine alteration does not constitute a sufficient change in an
item. A performer may, however, render the same item on a different instrument.
Decisions are at the discretion of the Council and the adjudicator
14. Backing Music should be as follows:
(Note: The rules of Copyright MUST be strictly adhered
Where recorded music is used it must be only on CD – R NOT CD - RW
One track only per CD for each section.
Failure to adhere to this rule can lead to disqualification.

section for which it is required.
CHAMPIONSHIPS– 2 Items – 2 separate CDs, each properly cued.
Instrumental and Strings Sections are not permitted CD accompaniment.

15. Registration – Competitors must register 30 minutes prior to the Section’s advertised
time. All entrants must provide a copy of their item for the adjudicator and a copy
for themselves and for their accompanist preferably on loose sheets. Book form is
allowed for solo competitors only. All copies are to be clearly marked on the right
hand corner with the section number and the participant’s number. Please do not put your
name on adjudicator’s copy. As these photocopies are subject to copyright laws, the
Council retains them for shredding in accordance with copyright rules.
16. There will be no tied places
17. Time: Performance must be kept within the specific time limits. Timing is
commenced at the first movement or sound on stage, including the tag if applicable but
excluding reasonable tuning. The official timekeeper’s record is final and no
discussion will be entered into. Exceeding the time limit will result in a loss of
eligibility for prizes. Adjudication only, will be provided to competitors who are
disqualified in this manner.
18. The adjudicator’s decision in accordance with the rules is final and binding. Any
objections including, but not limited to, competitor eligibility, item choice or rule
interpretations, should be referred to the protest committee within thirty minutes of the
completion of the section. All protests are to be made in writing and must be accompanied by
a deposit of $30 which will be refunded if the Council deems the protest is reasonable even if
the protest is not upheld. The protest committee’s decision is final and no further
correspondence will be entered into. A protest can only be made by a) a competitor of legal
age b) a competitor’s teacher or c) a competitor’s parent or guardian.
19. The Council reserves the right to appoint substitute adjudicators for any section in
whole or part.
20. The Council reserves the right to alter programmed performance times where
circumstances require.

and preferably done by another competitor. Feather boas, tinsel and other such
paraphernalia are permitted though performer is responsible for cleaning the stage

GUIDELINES FOR MUSIC CHOICE
A test such as ‘Any work by an 18th
Century Composer’, means the majority of that
composer’s works were written in the 18th
Century, i.e.: although J S Bach was born in
1685 (17th
Century) most of his works were composed in the 18th
Century.
Examples of composers that may be included in the 18th, 19th and 20-21st centuries are
given below. However, other composers fulfilling the criteria above may be used. The year
in which a work is composed may also be used as a guide.
