Today's FARM BILL is not your parent's FARM BILL. It's bigger. It's more costly. It's about lobbying and, strangely, it's largely about Food Stamps. If you think it's an item largely of interest to farmers - - think again ! Moreover, there's a civic lesson here that goes well beyond farms, food and dairy herds. It's about you as a taxpayer. And it's about you and your wallet. It's about big, so-called "comprehensive" legislative Bills, bundling many subjects within such large verbiage that few Legislators (and many fewer Citizen's) "know what's really in it". See what Utah Senator Mike Lee has said about such big Bills. So indeed, it's about Citizenship, our governance, and obstacles to Citizen influence over their government.
