Vol. I Issue No. II June-August 2010
Inside This Issue
By Mel-Yza Sunga
On the onset of the
school year 2010 – 2011, New
Era University marked another
milestone as it celebrates its
35th founding anniversary.
NEU, once again, goes green
not because of its advocate
against global warming and its
support to the preservation of
our environment. It goes green
because this year, we are cele-
brating its Emerald Anniver-
sary.
The school year offi-
cially opened with the first
Special Worship Service offi-
ciated by Pampanga District’s
Supervising Minister, Bro.
Agrielio De Lazo on June 16,
2010, 9:00 A.M. at the New
Era Locale’s House of Wor-
ship. Bro. De Lazo led the
school’s administration in ex-
pressing gratitude to our Al-
mighty God for the bountiful
blessings the school has at-
tained for 35 years. In his ser-
mon, Bro. De Lazo explained
that God’s words are the prime
knowledge one should learn to
succeed in life. He also taught
lessons about the importance
of having fear of the Lord and
entrusting our lives to God.
People should never do things
that will lead us away from
Him. He also instructed the
school administration to
strengthen the teaching force
and always do its best to pro-
mote higher quality of educa-
tion anchored with Christian
values to attain more success.

New Era University
– Pampanga Branch has dou-
ble reason to celebrate the
school’s anniversary as it
also officially opens its col-
lege department for this
school year.
Following the Spe-
cial Worship Service was the
Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
that highlighted the opening
of the General and Special
Education and Business
Management courses here in
Pampanga.
Dr. Corazon C. Oso-
rio, university president, led
her entourage in cutting the
ceremonial ribbon. With her
were, Dr. Alberto R. Do-
mingo Jr., university vice –
president; Dr. Lloren C.
Mercado, HRD director; Dr.
Eduardo Formento, univer-
sity registrar; Dr. Geronimo
Arandia, Guidance & Coun-
seling director; Bro. Antonio

Enchanting voices
from the High School faculty
entertained the guests as they
viewed the movie presenta-
tion which highlighted NEU-
Pampanga from its humble
beginnings in EVCO up to
its final home at Brgy. Dela
Paz Norte, City of San Fer-
nando. Tears and smiles
were seen on the faces of
the serenading teachers as
they reminisced their
memories. A photo exhibit
of the school’s history fol-
lowed. A former valedicto-
rian, incoming college stu-
dents and their professors
later joined the guests in
viewing the pictures.
The Faculty As-
sembly slated in the after-
noon of the same day fol-
lowed at Red Rickshaw
Restaurant. The affair’s
highlight was the reading of
the message from the Iglesia
Ni Cristo Executive Minis-
ter, Bro. Eduardo V. Ma-
nalo. Following Dr. Do-
mingo’s part was Dr. Oso-
rio’s speech of the achieve-
ments of the school and the
challenges the school has to
face to attain great success
in the future. Part of those
challenges was assigning
tasks to ministers who are
part of the school admini-
stration. Bro. Romeo Jhon
Venasquez was assigned in-
charge of the monthly liter-
ary-musical presentation,
Bro. Christopher Gorospe
was assigned to spearhead
the monthly story-sharing
and Bro. Ramil Ingente as

mittee.
In line with the
anniversary, the school also
presented the service

versity, we are pleased to announce that school
memorabilia of the Emerald Year are now available
at the school’s bookstore

Besides celebrating the Emerald Year
and supporting the advocacy against global
warming, NEU – Pampanga lauds the environ-
ment-friendly efforts of the fourth year students
headed by their Values Education mentor, Tr.
Merla G. Molina, as they participated in the
Tree Planting Activity last July 15, 2010. This
aims at preserving our environment and keep-
ing NEU green.

scorching heat of the sun
and the consistent power
interruptions never stopped
the Erans in rejoicing their
victory at 35. Mesmerizing
performances from the Ele-
mentary and High School
departments besides the
McDonald-sponsored games
highlighted the affair.
Rising stars from
NEU-Main Campus and the

New Era University Pampanga
Branch, celebrated the Buwan
ng Wika with the theme, “Sa
Pangangalaga ng Wika at
Kalikasan, Wagas na Pag-
mamahal Talagang Kailan-
gan.” The celebration initiated
with a prayer, which was fol-
lowed by the valuable remarks
from Bro. Isidro Latagan.
The program was
divided into two parts. The
first was done in the morning
with the Freshmen and the
Sophomores. The second part
was slated in the afternoon
with Juniors and the Seniors.
College students also partici-
pated in the afternoon.
Many activities were
held that day. Students from
different levels in high school
prepared their special numbers
very well. Each of the stu-
dents in high school was
dressed up with Filipiñana
and Barong. Most of the fac-
ulty members enliven the
event with their fancy and
adorable costumes which
they wore while teaching that
day.
Aside from the
amazing performances of the
high school students, the col-
lege department also prepared
a special number for the audi-
ence. The BSBA had a song
interpretation while the
BSEEd had a fiction stage
play which was the last num-
ber of the program.
On cue, the celebra-
tion had been successful. The
event ended with a closing
prayer led by Laine Marie
Aguilar, a BSEEd student.

club, performed last August
20, 2010 at the New Era
University Main Building,
aiming to introduce Chris-
tian-inspired songs to their
co-students.
The organization is
headed by Bro. Dann Philip
Cortes, with its adviser, Tr.
Cherry Lopez nd Mike Luke
Pavico as the club president.
It was 10 in the morning
when the group started re-
hearsing their chosen pieces.
The first song was “God’s
Promise”, followed by
“Enlightened.”Both tells
about the unending bless-
ings of the Lord God and
His unconditional love for
His people.
It was 12 noon
when the club officers sung
at the main building’s lobby
accompanied by a band.
Some of the school adminis-
trators even gave a round of
applause. The club will con-
tinue performing songs with
an objective of showing the
students, members or non-
members of the Iglesia Ni
Cristo, the importance and
beauty of Christian Hymns.
It will also surely strengthen
and tighten up their connec-
tion to the Almighty God.

came next and the result of
the workshop is posted on
this issue.

partment also attended the said
seminar.
A new set of Par-
ents, Teachers, and Commu-
nity Association (PTCA)

aims at extending collabora-
tive efforts of the parents,

try. The affair started with
an opening remark from the
School Director, Bro. Julio
M. Delgado. The highlight

Iglesia Ni Cristo Executive
Minister, Bro. Erano G.
Manalo.
Reminded by the said
leadership, the students of New
Era University Pampanga -
High school Department held a
tour last January 15, 2010 at the
Central Temple’s Tabernacle
where the remains of Bro.
Erano G. Manalo were laid. In
the said trip, the students were
given a chance to feel that feel-
ing when you’re inside that
solemn place - feeling that was
too extra ordinary. The students
had a closer look at his
sepulcher. Seeing the
tomb sepulcher and his name
engraved on a gravestone was a
harsh and formidable feeling
even though it has been almost
five months since he passed
away. The reality that he’s been
gone has not fully embraced
everybody. Not that they cannot
accept his death, but the feeling
of greatly missing him. Seeing
his pictures in the widescreen
touched everybody’s hearts,
and some even cried while they
were in their reminiscence, his
inspired leadership, and his rich
spiritual wisdom. Even the non-
members of the Church of
Christ paid respect to the late
spiritual leader as they have
witnessed how great Bro. Eraño
G. Manalo is.
H o w e v e r , m a n y
people would still ask, who is
Bro. Eraño G. Manalo?
Bro. Eraño G. Ma-
nalo is an individual who up-
holds the words of God and
prioritizes what is best for all
people even if it may cause a
havoc in his life when he un-
dergone criticism when he
begun preaching. Bro. Erdie, as
he was known, plays a custo-
dial role in the Church Of
Christ, preserving something
greater than the self—principles
of enduring and lasting values
learned from God. This is an
attitude of mind that focuses on
Godly things and sake of the
members and not on what the
leader may gain from the
position. It implies a caring and
concerned relationship between
leaders and members; individu-
als are motivated by God’s will.
For the members of
the Church of Christ, Bro.
Eraño G. Manalo is like a
father. He inspired all the
brethren with his leadership. He
was well- loved by his
followers. He gave strength to
remain steadfast in what God
can do, particularly in times of
hardship. Under his leadership,
Iglesia ni Cristo grew to be the
largest religious sect in the
country. And as the time
arrived for God to take him
from us, millions of the
members of the Church
mourned as we lost a great
spiritual leader.
NEU INVADES NATIONAL MUSEUM
Erans visited the Na-
tional Museum coming straight
from SM Mall of Asia. As the
students waited for their turn,
their respective advisers together
with the administrative officials,
assists them to maintain disci-
pline.
When everyone was set,
they went through quietly and in a
decent manner. Inside the Mu-
seum, different galleries were
made for certain kinds of displays.
On the first gallery, Erans were
amazed as they saw huge can-
nons, cannonballs, anchors and
other ancient relics in real view.
The second gallery was filled with
different kinds of swords, shields
and other armors that were dis-
covered in the reefs of Bataan.
The next set of galleries
were more of a transition from the
prehistoric Philippines to Pre- and
Spanish Eras, up to the Contem-
porary Philippines, shown through
images, 3D displays, dioramas,
displays and interactive buttons.
After the historical tour, Vietnam
and China’s porcelain plates, dif-
ferent kinds of vases ranging from
the small ones up to the huge
types, as well as other kinds of
pottery were displayed at the suc-
ceeding gallery. It is said that
these porcelains were made on
different values from the different
eras of our country, and were

preserved to commemorate the
vanishing of the Viet and Chi-
nese ships out in the sea. The
last gallery made a jaw-
dropping conclusion as every-
one tends to see real-life pre-
served animals. Examples of
these are the Flying Lizard, the
Linaeous Snake, the Philippine
Flying Lemur, different breeds
of doves and parrots, butter-
flies, hoppers and different
types of plants. The Trumpet’s
Cone, Horn Cone and different
types of Giant Clams and
shells, best example of which is
the Tube Coral, were also dis-
played.
The main attraction in
the galleries was the gold cord
that is 6.5 karats and is told to
be the most precious jewelry in
the Spanish Era. As told, the
gold cord helped some Spanish
natives when they were about
to escape just to save their
lives.
After the long tour,
the students bought some sou-
venirs such as bracelets, key
chains, and other memorabilia
of their historical tour at the
National Museum.
around it. The scene in Laot
was giving the idea of diving
under the sea to search for a
ship that sank a long, long time
ago.
“Buhay na Karaga-
tan” was the fourth section of
the Manila Ocean Park. This is
the ever-famous part of the
place for having a hallway with
a 360-degree sight of different
kinds of fishes that made them
feel like they were walking
under the sea. It also became
popular as it was shown on
GMA-7’s “Dyesebel” where
the lead stars were having a
tour at the place.
Next to Buhay na
Karagatan is “Ang Kalaliman”
gallery. This is more of an
aquarium-type view of the pre-
vious gallery to have a wider
and bigger view of the fishes.
The last part of the galleries is
the “Pating” section. As the
title suggests, it is a sole section
dedicated to the most feared
creature under, the sharks. Yet
in their aquarium, they seem to
be more tamed and less
ferocious compared to their
aggressive and frightening
appeal.
Games regarding the
proper waste management and
care for the water bodies such
as the sea and the ocean, are
also held. Dioramas and
standees are also found inside.
Outside the main
park, souvenir shops, restau-
rants, amusement parks and
other businesses are found.
Erans spent their remaining
time to buy food and souvenirs
for their loved ones. Everyone
left for home with experiences
to share and memories to
withhold as they took a tour at
the Manila Ocean Park.
As their last leg on
the day’s educational field trip,
the Erans, faculties, and admin-
istrative officials took their
journey inside the very famed
Manila Ocean Park. The
students can’t wait outside and
took their cameras on for some
picture galore at the MOP’s
signage.
Students from the
same buses were grouped
together when they went into
the park’s main lobby.
Everyone was so excited to get
inside, and, giving off their
tickets, they started the explora-
tion at the “world deep under.”
The park was divided
into six galleries. The first one,
named as “Agos”, shows some
huge and rare fishes in the Phil-
ippines swimming in the
aquariums. Agos looked more
closely to nature from the
openness of the gallery, the
hanging vines and the waterfall.
In the Agos section, the Erans
also got a glimpse and have a
touch with Patrick Starr’s rela-
tives, the starfishes.
The second one is
called “Bahura”, which is now
a closed area compared to the
first gallery. Different species
of fishes and other aquatic
animals can be seen here, from
seahorses to the king crab, to
clown fishes and a manta ray.
All ranges of aquatic creatures
are shown mostly here in
Bahura.
As they got out of
Bahura, the next section that
they have entered was the
“Laot”. It was a circular area
with huge aquariums on the
sides. These aquariums contain
some resemblances of what
looked like sunken ships with
schools of fishes swimming

School administrators,
faculty, staff, and the whole
studentry joined hand in hand in
participating in the Citywide
Clean-up Drive to commemorate
the 9th Anniversary of the City-
hood of San Fernando, Pam-
panga. The event held on Febru-
ary 01, 2010 aimed at conserving
the environment while participat-
ing in the Cityhood Celebration
2010. The program also further
demonstrates the impact of
working together in cleaning the
school surroundings with the
realization of everyone’s respon-
sibility as a school stakeholder.
It was also done to promote a
child-friendly environment that
is more conducive to the teach-
ing-learning process, and to feel
the essence of being a responsi-
ble Fernandino.
Prior to the said event,
a General Flag Ceremony and
Orientation was held at 7:30
A.M. This was followed by the
actual clean-up from 8:00 –
10:00 A.M. Each section from
different grade and year levels
were given assigned places to
clean and beautify. The value
of “Bayanihan” was also envi-
sioned in this particular activity
as parents also shared their time
to help out. Braving the scorch-
ing heat of the sun and the
exhausting fumes coming from
different sort of vehicles
passing through, the seniors,
together with their parents and
advisers, managed to clean the
university’s main entry point
and the overpass. The other
year levels took charge of the
surrounding areas of the high
school field. Elementary pupils
also had their share of cleaning
their classrooms and their
surrounding field.
The activity was
successfully done as everyone
partakes and realizes his
responsibility not just as a
Fernandino, but as a Filipino
who is deeply concerned with
his environment.

The New Era Univer-
sity – Pampanga Branch’s
junior and senior students,
together with their teachers and
the administrative officials of
the school woke up early and
prepared for the annual
educational field trip held last
January 15, 2010. The places
that they visited were the INC
Tabernacle where the tomb of
the late Executive Minister,
Bro. Eraño G. Manalo lays, the
SM Mall of Asia, the National
Museum, and the Manila Ocean
Park. This field trip was
launched to give the students,
especially the graduating ones,
some break from the stress they
have undergone through
everyday school requirements,
in a fun yet still an educational
way.
Erans went to school
as early as 3:30 AM to ensure
the 5:00 AM assembly time at
the auditorium. They brought
everything they needed such as
foods, extra clothes and pocket
money. When the buses came,
all were given a brief orienta-
tion on what to do with the
specific places to go to. All
were set to go to their
respective buses together with
their assigned tour guides.

Two of the winners during the English Week 2010 cele-
bration with Tr. Jun Lacanlale & Tr. Charlene Flores.
The English Club
headed by Arleen Mae Canlas,
in collaboration with the Arts
and Literature Club of Neil
Francis Galang spearheaded the
celebration of this year’s Eng-
lish Week.
The activities in line
with the celebration were
capped through the theme,
“Strengthening the Power of
Communication through Eng-
lish Language.” Each activity
focuses on bringing forth the
academic and artistic talents of
the students. The English Club
concentrated mainly in enhanc-
ing the oral and written com-
munication skills of the stu-
dents and the Arts and Litera-
ture Club highlighted their
artistic skills.
The week-long activ-
ity was really a sum of effort
and sacrifice for each teacher
and club officer, yet it gave true
satisfaction when students
really enjoy each activity. The
brain-draining activities like
Poetry, Essay, and Short Story
Writing contests were the first
to be held on that week. Each
section was allowed to send
only one participant per cate-
gory. The same rule was also
applied to the other activities to
ensure that everybody will be
given the chance to participate
in various events. The Quiz Bee
and the Spelling Bee were held
in the auditorium simultane-
ously with the Music Illustra-
tion in the library. The latter
tested the aesthetic, artistic, and
the musical talents of the par-
ticipants as they listen to the
song “Reflection” by Lea Sa-
longa. After which, they were
asked to draw the message of
the song. Alejandro Naguit
topped the said event which
replaced the old Poster Making
Contest. He eventually landed
first in the same category in the
Sining 2010 sponsored by the
U.P. Aguman last February 06.
The emotion-thrilled and
tongue-twisting speech activi-
ties were held next. Participants
battled in the Declamation,
ity since they never got bored
and the auditorium was jam-
packed until the end. Contest-
ants for the Declamation, Ex-
temporaneous, and the Solo-
Singing Contests really gave
their very best to win. Yet only
the best would surely get the
crown. Karen Danielle Tu-
quero, John Vherlin Magday,
and Klai Henzon, respectively,
emerged as winners.
The Elementary De-
partment also celebrated the
said week by showcasing the
pupils’ talent in stage plays like
Cinderella, The Girl’s Fish,
Beauty and the Beast, etc.
The English Week,
no matter how short it was, has
given the students an unforget-
table experience. It allowed
them to show their hidden but
precious talents. It also allowed
them to go out of their respec-
tive shells to discover what else
they could learn and do at the
same time.
Oratorical, and Extemporane-
ous Speech Contests. The first
round served to be an elimina-
tion and only the first three will
be able to reach the finals on
the last day of the activity. The
same thing went to the Solo-
Singing contest as eager partici-
pants sang their way in front of
the song masters of NEU-
Pampanga. Eight students even-
tually got into the final round.
Prior to the Culminat-
ing Activity, the Newscasting
clash between the Juniors and
the Seniors was held. Each
group prepared hard for the said
event. They even wore their
executive dresses on the contest
day. In the end, IV-Macedonia
emerged as champion followed
by III-Tarsus and III-Neapolis.
The Culminating
Activity lasted remarkably for
four hours yet the students
really enjoyed the events on the
last day of the week-long activ-
everyone. Trissie Elaine Alipio
also gave a fervent message and
helped the Juniors and the Sen-
iors reminisce special memories
together. Dances from each sec-
tion, games, and the reading of
love notes to their most admired
Senior schoolmates kept the
audience alive. Emil Renz
Mercado and Pinkhy Ruth Man-
gali of IV-Capernaum were
awarded as Mr. and Ms. Cam-
pus. Kristine Nepomuceno con-
cluded the event with a prayer.
The students obviously
had a good time and enjoyed the
tribute. The event was remarka-
bly memorable and unforgetta-
ble. Seniors would surely bring
the experience with them in
whatever journey they would
take in the future.
The third year stu-
dents of New Era University-
Pampanga Branch paid tribute
to the graduating students of the
school year 2009-2010. Juniors
with their advisers held out a
Juniors and Seniors Day last
March 10 at the High School
Auditorium.
Concerned students
and teachers had a week of
preparation from food to
souvenirs and their perform-
ances during the said program.
The activity was slated in the
afternoon after the last sched-
uled periodic examinations. It
was a fun-filled activity headed
by the chairman of the Office
of the Student Affairs, Bro.

calaureate Worship Service
held on March 19 at the Locale
of New Era.
The special worship
service was officiated by the
Pampanga District Minister,
Bro. Agrielo de Lazo. In his
homily, he emphasized the fact
that wisdom and determination
play an important role in
achieving one’s dream and
success in life. Yet above the
earthly wisdom we receive in
learning institutions, we should
be guided by the wisdom com-
ing from our Lord God and
never depart from it. Bro. de
Lazo also beseeched God to
continue pouring out His bless-
ings to the graduates and guide
them as they continue their
journey.
After the worship
service, graduating high school
students and their parents at-
tended a short, but meaningful
program dubbed as, “Tribute to
Parents,” in the High School
Auditorium.
Bro. Alan P. Montes,
our school nurse led the open-
ing prayer which was followed
by the opening remarks of our
School Director, Bro. Julio M.

event touched everyone’s heart
as the students wrote their word
of thanks to their parents as
well as to their teachers. Their
messages were read by the class
presidents of the graduating
batch. They even dedicated
songs to their parents and
teachers while offering flowers
to them.
After the students’
performances, the fourth year
advisers presented a special
screen presentation of “Ang
Sulat ng mga Magulang sa mga
Anak,” which once again
touched everybody’s heart.
Teary-eyed, the students re-
flected and pondered over the
message of the presentation.
They realized how great their
parents’ love for them is.
Bro. Dann-Philip
Cortes, the school HRDC Coor-
dinator, concluded the program
with a prayer.

What is Special Education?
Special Education is
the education of students with
special need in a way that
addresses the students’ indi-
vidual differences and needs.
Ideally, this process involves
the individual planned and
systematically monitored
arrangement of teaching pro-
cedures, adapted equipment
and materials, accessible set-
tings and other intervention
designed with special needs
achieve a higher level of per-
sonal self-sufficiency and
success in school and com-
munity than would be avail-
able if the student were only
given access to a typical
c l a s s r o o m e d u c a t i o n .
Common special needs in-
clude challenges with learn-
ing, communication, emo-
tional and behavioral disor-
ders, physical disabilities and
developmental disorders.
Students with these kinds of
special needs are likely to
benefit from additional ser-
vices, different approaches
to teaching, use of technol-
ogy, or resource room.
Intellectual Giftedness is a
difference in learning and
can also benefit from spe-
cialized teaching techniques
or different educational pro-
grams, but the term “Special
Education” is generally used
to specifically indicate in-
structions of students whose
special needs reduce their
ability to learn independ-
ently or in a classroom, and
Gifted is handled separately.
“Special Education” is not a
location, but the act of edu-
cating students in a way that
is “special”, or different
from the usual methods”.

If she brings you happiness, then I wish you all the best.
It’s your happiness that matters most of all.
But if she ever breaks your heart,
if the teardrops ever start, I’ll be there
before the next teardrop falls.
I’ll be there any time. You need me by your side
to drive away every teardrop that you cried for her.
If she ever leaves you blue, just remember I love you
and I’ll always be here for you. Before the next teardrop falls,
I’ll be there.

Trusting our Almighty Unfold our minds and hearts.
Believe in God even when He is in silence.
Ask and it shall be given to us
Why thou were there To confer ourselves and trust to thee

Seek and knock the door shall be opened.
Believe in God Almighty Convey ourselves and trust in Him.

I know it was over… But why it still hurts? Seeing you in her arms
is killing me.
How I wish I was still the reason behind your smiles.
How I wish I could hold your hands? The way I do before;
to feel your warm hugs like you were protecting me.
Your voice that I love to hear was the greatest music for me.
If I could only turn back the time I shouldn’t have done those things
that led to goodbyes.
Every time you turn back to me I wanted to grab your arm hug you and never let go.
But then you were asking for your freedom…
freedom that’s hard for me to grant.
But I love you. Your happiness is my happiness. I would endure all kinds of pain
just to see you happy.

Her Care and tenderness has provided me warmth, Making me feel so secure deep down in the heart. She’s been very gracious amidst all my mistakes,
I was never subjected to judgment and hate.
Yea, my grandma loved me unconditionally, Wiping my tears with her brittle hand sincerely.
Listening to her stories every now and then Sobbing and wishing that I could be with her again.
Time finally decided to take her from me.
Her uplifting smile, I would never ever see I regret that times I didn’t tell her I lover her.
Now I could only talk to her grave and whisper :(

As I woke up this morning I thought that I'm still dreaming Feelings for you that still not fade
And the memories of past that we both made.
As the day goes by I’m still wishing that my feelings for you will fly.
Hoping that I’ll be over you So I can go on with my life even without you.
I know that sooner or later Both of us will get better
Because I know that you don't love me anymore Hope we can be friends forevermore
