The Diabetes Coach Study A pilot on peer coaching Collaboration between U of Vic and the 11 Diabetes Health Education Centres in the Fraser Health Region - Recruit and train 100 Diabetes Coaches - Diabetes Educators recruit 150 subjects - Coach is paired with subject - 30 minute weekly phone call for 6 months

2) Will persons with type 2 diabetes accept a peer coach?

4) Will a peer coach intervention bring about improved diabetes
outcomes for clients and coaches?
5) How does the process of peer coaching help clients?

A baseline to 6-month analysis was conducted with 100 clients and
found improvement in:
A1C (-12%)
Activation (+20%)
Self-reported health (+8%),
Depression (-38%),
Diabetes self-efficacy (+28%),
Communication with physician (+19%)
Diabetes empowerment (+21%).
The full baseline, 6 and 12 month analysis will be conducted as
soon as the 12-month questionnaires have been collected and the
data entered.
