Dear St. Francis Parishioners,
This is Deacon Francis, and quite frankly I am not sure how to feel about having to write this month’s
“Message from the Pastor.” Normally I would say what an honor it is to be asked to contribute to the bulletin.
But the circumstances of this letter are not what I would have expected or hoped for.
So . . . Allow me to begin with my thanks to each and every one of you, for the prayers and support
you have been offering up for Monsignor Ronald Swett, our Canonical Administrator Pro-Tem. As you may
have noticed, Monsignor Swett has not been able to celebrate the Holy Mass with us lately. He has asked me
to share with you that he regrets not being able to be more present but has recently been diagnosed with
cancer. He has decided to follow the advice of his doctors and focus wholly on his treatment and recovery.
Please continue to keep him in your prayers as he moves forward with hopes of returning to his ministry of
serving God’s people.
As we move into the summer months, I want us to remember to use this time as an opportunity to
refocus on what really matters. To focus in prayer, on our relationship with Christ, as individuals and as a
community.
As Catholics, we dedicate the month of July to the Precious Blood of Christ. Even as far back as 96
A.D., when Pope St. Clement I wrote, "Let us fix our gaze on the Blood of Christ and realize how truly precious It
is, seeing that it was poured out for our salvation and brought the grace of conversion to the whole world."
Even though our celebration of the Blessed Sacrament may look and feel different right now, our Lord remains
constant and continues to pour Himself out for each one of us.
Let’s focus on His Love, on rebuilding our community, a community of believers, loving one another, pouring
ourselves out in the service of our fellow man.
My dear brothers and sisters, my prayers are with you. Prayers that, as the shadows of fear and uncer-
tainty creep in around us, you, our St. Francis family will remain a light in the darkness, a city on the hill, leading
those who feel lost, safely home.

uphold you with my victorious right hand.
Religious Education for Adults
By the grace of God we have started to slowly open up our church for masses and the
Sacraments. We have scheduled the Sacrament masses for our
RCIA and RCIC in July. Our Adult First Holy Communions and
Confirmations are in August.
We continue to pray that we keep moving ahead and opening our masses to more people. For now we must abide by the same mass
and communion guidelines for these Sacraments, as we do for all masses.
We thank you for your continued prayers for the Elect who are excited to finally receive their Initiation Sacraments into the church.
We also ask for prayers for our adults who will be
completing their Sacraments next month.
“Temporary” registration forms are online under Ministries and Faith Formation.
The diocese should have their guidelines
completed by the end of July and that will help us to know how next year’s classes will be offered.
Have a safe and happy Independence Day!!!
Ministry to the Sick
My sincerest greetings and prayers for health and
wellness go out to you all. As things slowly
transition and begin to open back up, I want to share some
updates regarding the pastoral care ministry
services offered by St. Francis Parish.
As you may know, we have been
unable to conduct in person visits to private homes
and healthcare facilities during this time, as issued by the
diocese. As Kern County transitions to
Phase 2 of resuming business, we are not yet able
to resume our regular activities, but virtual pastoral
support is available by phone as always.
Regular mass attendance, at reduced or
limited capacity, will soon be available for the
general population, but we will have to wait until Phase 3
or beyond in order to conduct our normal face to face
support. Until that time, as the Pastoral Care Coordinator
at St. Francis, I am available by phone or email
during normal business hours and I am happy to provide
whatever assistance I can.
May God’s grace and mercy be with us all
during this time.

Dear head of ministries,
It was good to see you at our zoom meeting. We hope that soon we will have the chance to get together once again. Thank you for everything you do in your ministry. Our Church needs all of us more than ever. Please, if you have the means to contact the core mem-bers of your ministry, share the good news of our Lord and bring his hope to everyone! I will email all as soon as I get the time and date for our next meeting.
May our Lord bless you and your family.

Religious Education Youth Program
Please continue prayers for our students and their families who will be receiving their First Holy Communion this month.
Our families have been the Cynical of faith in their homes as parents lived the example
of the Holy Family preparing their children for their Sacraments.
“Temporary” registration forms are online
under Ministries and Faith Formation.
The diocese should have their guidelines completed by the end of July
and that will help us to know how next year’s classes will be offered.
We miss seeing all of you and look forward to seeing those families whose children will
be receiving their First Holy Communion this month.
3rd - 4th - 5th Grades Youth Group
Until we have the guidelines from diocese Ignite Youth Group is on hold.
Have a safe and happy 4th of July !!!

“But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.
Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring
of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14)

eternal life in the month of May 2020 with services through

Our funeral team wishes to accompany those who are griev-
ing and to show the light of Jesus Christ risen to those whose
hearts are broken. Our Parish embraces all who are
mourning and gives direction for funeral services. We give
thanks to God for the deceased's life and hold family and
friends close in prayer as we travel together through these
difficult times.
We have begun to have funeral Masses as part of our phased
reopening, with the following restrictions: only 100 allowed
in the church (overflow in the parish hall), everyone must
wear a mask, no exceptions, and we must maintain 6 foot
social distancing as required by the CDC. We are also
continuing to provide graveside services, chapel services, and
scheduling memorial masses for those that could only have
graveside services, for any questions please contact
Roylene See through the Parish Office.
I believe that all of us have a song that lives deep within. It is unique, it is yours alone and it is precious because it is a gift from God. In the Himba of Nambia in South Africa, a mother who is expecting, asks to hear the song of her baby and sings the song to her child throughout the life of the
child. The song is sung at birth and she teaches the song to the whole village so they may sing and rejoice with her. The song of that child follows through success and even failures,
because the whole village knows everyone’s song. As the person travels through life they are always reminded of their unique gifts in the form of this song. On their deathbed the
song is sung for the final time as a reminder for the person to sing it again with God.
I know we each have a song in our soul that calls us to embrace the unique gift we are to the world. We are
reminded of this when we hear in Isaiah, “I have formed you, I have created you and called you by name,
and you are mine.” The discovery of our song is a lifelong process and some-times we turn away from the song. When we recognize
Christ in each other, in the Blessed Sacrament and in crea-tion, our songs are sung. Keep listening for your song it is
always being sung.

Hello to my Brothers in Christ. The past few
months have brought many changes and
Challenges and during times like these,
all of us feel the need to get together and
share our thoughts and feelings. But, due to
the restrictions set forth by the Fresno Diocese,
we will not be able to resume our Saturday
morning meetings until at least September.
When we do resume our gatherings,
the attendees will need to wear mask and we
will be working on the social distancing
guidelines. Trust me when I say that I want our
meetings to be as safe as possible. Keep an
eye on the monthly bulletin but as of right
now, the second Saturday, 9/12, will hopefully
be our first get together.
Keep praying for each other that the Holy
Spirit will continue to give us the strength and
guidance during these troubling times.
God Bless
