A Newsletter of Honda Cars India Suppliers Club Society Issue No : FY 2017-18/001
Message from
Mr. Pankaj MitalPresident, HCI Suppliers Club
This is first issue of Engage of this year and I feel very humbled and honoured for this opportunity of reaching out to all the supplier members through this newsletter at a time when automotive industry is on the threshold of an exciting new journey.
In today's challenging economic scenario, the initiatives taken by the HCI Suppliers Club have added significance and relevance to our work areas. It is imperative that each member of the enterprise puts on the thinking cap and make small additional contribution to keep themselves competitive.
HCI Suppliers Club promotes many activities from which one gets lot of learning that serves as a base to enhance knowledge and upgrade skills. We need to continue our endeavour to increase the involvement of all the members, which will help in implementing best practices among the supplier community and improves our competitiveness.
I appreciate the efforts of all the enterprises who have shown exemplary commitment towards sharing their experiences and making serious effort towards meeting key objectives of the club viz. learning from each other, continuous improvement across the, supply chain etc.
I must acknowledge here the continuous support and guidance extended by Ueno San, CEO & President HCIL and Ashok San, Operating Head Purchasing, the EC Members and the coordinators, without which we could not have made significant progress in our journey towards excellence.
This year we have chosen Lean Management as a theme and have initiated new training program on “Lean Manufacturing” under Shop Floor Excellence activity and emphasizing on Fire Safety, besides the ongoing activities of Benchmark Plant Visits, Energy Conservation, Safety trainings and handholding.
The activity calendar for 2017~18 is being shared with you in this newsletter.
We look forward to your support and greater participation in the club activities in this year.
The Gion Festival
The Gion Matsuri (Gion Festival) is one of the three largest local matsuris (festivals) in Japan. The other two are the Kanda Matsuri in Tokyo and Tenjin Matsuri in Osaka. It is officially a festival of the venerable Yasaka Shrine, located in the heart of Gion, and runs for the entire month of July. As a traditional summer event of Kyoto, is the largest and most well-known of the city's many matsuri. In Japan, Shinto festivals begin with a ceremony welcoming and respecting the divine spirits, and end with a calming ceremony to prepare them for their return to the spirit world. The Gion Festival follows this tradition, and the ritual of welcoming and returning the spirit is expressed through a mikoshi parade. Mikoshi are portable shrines in which the divine spirits are carried. After departing from Yasaka Shrine, the Gion Festival mikoshi is carried through the neighboring streets, and after a week of visiting temporary stations prepared for it around the city, the mikoshi once again returns to its home shrine.

Editorial
The theme for this quarter's newsletter is Lean Manufacturing, a concept that involves never ending efforts to eliminate or reduce 'muda' (Japanese word for waste or any activity that consumes resources without adding value) in all activities involving people, processes and technologies. HCI suppliers club undertook a training program to increase awareness about Lean Manufacturing amongst the supplier companies and help create a culture of continuous improvement. This quarter also saw activities and trainings in energy management and safety together with a plant visit to Bosch, Jaipur which reiterated the concepts of safety and energy management as an organization culture. We congratulate Mr. Pankaj Mital who took over as the new President of the Suppliers Club this year. He has been associated with Honda Car India Suppliers Club for many years. The Suppliers Club will continue its successful journey under his able leadership.Through this newsletter we aim to communicate with all our suppliers and strengthen our bond with them. Let's make it a two way communication process. Please write to us with your valuable feedback and help us make this communication even more effective.
