Mouth parts

• Mandibles- holding food• Labrum- holding food• Maxillae- chewing food• Labium-holding food and tasting

Head

• Antennae• Eyes ( simple)• Mouth ( adapted so they can chew plants)

• They have crop and gizzard for grinding food

Thorax

• Three pair of legs (Legs are adapted for jumping to escape predators)

• One or two pair of wings– Some insects only have wings part of their life, or

not at all

Abdomen

• Where the reproductive structures are found• Insects have an open circulatory system and

their blood DOES NOT carry oxygen• They have spiracles instead- where air enters

and waste gas leaves the body (oxygen & CO2)
