To Brexit or not to Brexit? – that is the question! Our votes (yours and mine) as we go to the Polls next month to decide whether the UK wishes to remain a member of the European Union will probably be the most important vote we will make at the polls in our life time. It will affect all of us. The stay in crowd say:Jobs We maintain trade relations with the continent and thereby secure jobs.
National Security "It is through the EU that we exchange criminal records and passenger records and work together on counter-terrorism,"National Financial Impact The UK's status as one of the world's biggest financial centres will be diminished if it is no longer seen as a gateway to the EU for the likes of US banks,BUT the get out crowd say:Jobs Control of our own boarders means we decide how many immigrants come to the UK – limit the numbers coming in and there will be more jobs available for those already here.National Security Unless we get out we leave the "door open" to terrorist attacks. Open borders do not allow us to check and control people.
National Financial Impact Free from EU rules a regulations Britain could reinvent itself AND there would be an immediate cost saving, as the country would no longer contribute to the EU budget (£13bn)These are just some of the arguments. None of the above statements tell the full story by any means but you can see my dilemma as there seems to be equally good arguments on both sides of the campaign – so who to believe and who is right? What to do?I've been pondering this conundrum and there is a big part of me, as a Christian, that says –stay with our friends in Europe; we are better, stronger together and surely we should aim to be an inclusive nation, welcoming and willing to work with our brothers and sisters across our boarders in fellowship and love. Together we can form policies and friendships that benefit everyone and are a beacon of light in the world. After all (on a much smaller scale admittedly) that is what our group of ten churches are aiming to do here – to see ourselves as one body of faithful people who help each other, work together, pray together, worship together and reach out together to our communities with God's love. We are about taking away boundaries – not putting them up.But then someone remarked to me that if the EU were embedded in Christian Values that would be fine but sadly it more often seems to be about grabbing at power and the selfish aims of individuals or individual nations. So where does this leave us? To Brexit or not to Brexit? For me that is still the BIG question! I shall now go off into a quiet room to pray about it and hope to hear God's still small voice guiding my hand as I place my X. Or should that be With Love Revd Jane

Over 60 members attended the Spring Show and Supper, which has become a very popular annual event. The Village Fryer again provided the excellent fish and chip supper and we are indebted to Wayne Simper for arranging this. There were approximately 70 vases of flowers displayed, turning the end of the Village Hall into a mini Chelsea. Jenny Baker very generously gave her time to judge the entries: not an easy task! Winners were:

st nd3 Dwarf Daffodils: 1 Ann Ess 2 , Margaret Gladman, rd 3 Sandra Rawson.
st nd3 Tulips (one variety): 1 Sharon Coleman, 2 Pauline Crump,rd 3 Kath Evison.
st nd3 Tulips (mixed): 1 Judy Woollatt, 2 Sue Barlow, rd 3 Pauline Crump.
st ndVase of Spring Flowers: 1 Cynthia Jackson, 2 Sharon Coleman,rd 3 Eileen Godsall.

TiddlyPotts Playgroup
An egg-cellent morning at was had at TiddlyPotts on the last session of the term.
Thank you very much to the Reverend Dixon for joining us and reading us the Easter Story.
The children (and adults!) enjoyed their snack...carrot cupcakes and hot cross buns! Thank you very much to Beryl who popped down to see us and gave all the children some lovely Easter Eggs.
During craft time the children made Easter Cards and Easter Bunny Cups! TiddlyPotts offered an Easter Garden to Pott Row Methodist Church which was on display during the Easter celebrations, I think you will agree that it looked lovely with the flowers that the children attending our playgroup made.
The Easter Bunny made an early visit to TiddlyPotts and left the children more eggs that they happily took home with them at the end of the session.TiddlyPotts opens 9:30 - 11:30 every Friday during term time at Pott Row Methodist Church. If you haven't been before, please pop down and see us for a taster session (£1.50 per child, 50p for additional children). We run an allocated space system which Emma or Dionne will be happy to discuss with you.
Best Wishes
Emma & Dionne - Playgroup Leaders
Hudson Fen:
We have noted that some people are taking chainsaws on to Hudson Fen to cut down trees. Nobody is allowed to do this on Hudson, Sugar & Derby Fens without the express permission of the Trustees. You are allowed to pick up fallen/dead wood and take "what you can carry on your bike", but definitely not allowed to cut any trees or branches without permission.

Grimston Parish Council News
Our next meeting will be on Monday 9th May in the Village Hall. The Annual Parish Meeting will be at 7 p.m. & The Parish Council AGM will follow at 8 p.m. or before.Co-option: We are now able to co-opt a new councilor to replace Trevor Stebbings. If you would like to be considered as a new councilor, please write to
the Clerk at 11 Back Lane, Pott Row or email by Saturday 7th May and attend the 9th May Council meeting, when you will be given a chance to introduce yourself. Talk by Anglian Water: We had another talk & Qs & As session with representatives of Anglian Water, but sadly they could not come up with anything we wanted to hear. They have surveyed our sewage system and repaired many leaks that allow ground water to get in the system, but our problem of sewage flowing down Chapel Road is still happening in heavy rain (twice this year so far). With more than 50 new homes being given permission in Pott Row, it will only make our problem worse, plus large numbers of new homes getting permission in Gayton, which also feeds into Grimston Sewage Works. Anglian Water claim that they cannot stop planning permissions and they have no plans in the foreseeable future to spend any capital amounts to improve our system. We are writing to Henry Bellingham to ask him to go higher with Anglian Water and government departments. Please write as well - the more letters he gets the more incentive to fight for us!Triangle Green: At the junction of Chequers Road & Lynn Road. You may notice that this Green has not been cut this year. The Parish Council is holding a trial to encourage wild flowers to grow and will be cutting & raking the Green about July, then again at the end of the season. We are trying this for a one year trial initially to see how it goes. Rubbish Dumping in Back Lane (Grimston end): We are still seeing garden rubbish being dumped on to Back Lane, at the Grimston end, mainly from the properties in Lynn Road, who back on to the track. Back Lane is a public highway all the way from Pott Row to Grimston and fly tipping is not allowed.

Our January meeting was well attended. We had two speakers from the Wellbeing Service, a local organisation that helps people with anxiety problems or depression, anyone who needs someone to talk to. We all have worries at times and it's good to know there is someone who can help. In February we had a social evening with cakes that we all enjoyed. Our March speaker was Elaine Rudd from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn who spoke to us about breast cancer and the Keeping Abreast charity. A new unit is about to be opened at the hospital to support breast cancer patient. The competition was a decorated bra. It was won by Mary Roper with a bra holding pots of primroses! Alison Barlow was second and Pat Watts was third.
Thank you very much, Mary Lupton.

Holly Meadows School
Holly Meadows has a new Deputy Headteacher, Miss Amy Harvey. She has joined the school from St Martha's Primary School and we are delighted that she is also the class teacher for Aldrin Class. Miss Harvey is already getting to know us and has helped us to get many things sorted, including encouraging the
thchildren to make a beautiful birthday card for Queen Elizabeth II's 90 birthday. This was done by each of the children drawing a portrait of the Queen on a stamp shaped piece of paper and colouring it using only Red, White and Blue. It was quite a difficult task but they managed admirably by using our art skills. The card was posted to the Palace and we hope The Queen enjoys seeing it amongst all the others she will receive. The portraits have been mounted in the front hall in the school and have attracted much positive praise. Miss Harvey is also working on a number of aspects relating to Diversity and making sure that we follow up Ofsted's requirements to get us to Outstanding. The children will be taking part in a Diversity workshop day in school, taking a different country for each class. Our sports day on 1 July will also have an international feel as we take an Olympic theme, hopefully with an international picnic lunch in the middle of the day… watch out for details! We wish Miss Harvey the best of luck and many happy years in our lovely school. At Holly Meadows we like the children to have lots of opportunities in school as well as out of school hours. We are training them to be safe by the road when walking, off road on their bikes and on the road. The school is working to become a centre of excellence for cycling as we feel it is so important that the children in our beautiful rural areas are able to be independent, get out and experience the benefits and pleasures of the outside areas. Please watch out for them as they are making use of their skills as we all remember how hard it is to recall the road safety information along with remembering to pedal, steer and balance! We start very young with cycle training at our school using the Balanceability bikes that have two wheels but no pedals at all. They are great for helping children to learn all the things needed to start them off on all the skills they need but with the pressure of pedalling removed! And finally, at the end of May we are going to be holding a Purple Fashion Show in support of the Stroke Awareness Charity. The children will be able to parade on the catwalk in outfits they have designed or just simply own that are purple – we are really looking forward to seeing what they look like; we hope that we will be able to get lots of support. Watch out for the posters and photos on the website. Best wishes, Rachael Williams, Headteacher

Little Pegasus – New Nursery and Day Care centre for the villages
As some of you out there are aware, we have been trying for some time to open a family-style Nursery and Day Care Centre for the area. It has been a long haul, but things are now progressing well. After five months of jumping through various hoops, we have now been given planning permission for change of use and a lease is being drawn up for 'The Old Booking Office' in Roydon. Thank you to all those people, who have supported us in this.
We are now in the process of obtaining and installing a disabled W.C. and planning a ramp for fair access. All resources are purchased (our dining room looks like a hoarders paradise) and we are looking forward to re-locating them into the new building.
The back of the Old Booking Office initially looked like a jungle from 'Get me out of here', and is in the process of being tamed. Thank you so much to local parents for their offers of help to make this a safe place for our little ones to play.Anyone interested in supporting us in any way with their skills or manpower would be more update chat or application form.

St Andrews Church Spring Walk 2016
Despite the inclement weather we had plenty of hardy walkers who enjoyed the walk around Congham. Walkers and non walkers met back in the church for soup and a time of socialising. The afternoon was rounded of with tea, coffee and cake! As well as having an enjoyable time £82:50 was raised for the church.

DEMENTIA ADVENTURE
Memory problems? YOU'RE NOT ALONE!
Quite a few people in our villages have been diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer's and no doubt others are worried about the possibility.Dementia Adventure is locally based and get together every couple of weeks and do lots of different things, but often involving eating and drinking at some point! It's all very informal and people turn up as and when they can.Recently we have been to Trues Yard in King's Lynn and Ware Hall in Wells next the Sea, followed by a pub lunch in both cases.Coming up soon, we have invited a Consultant Psychiatrist to come and answer our questions about dementia and we are going to the bird reserve at Cley for a guided walk. We are planning to go on a seal trip from Blakeney when the weather gets a bit warmer, a picnic in the walled garden at Houghton and a barbecue, amongst other things. The group has been active for a couple of years now and it is good to share experiences with others who really understand as well as having a lot of fun and making new friends. If you or a loved one are affected and would like to socialise informally or become part of a support group, please phone Lesley on 01485 601220 at any time. If I'm out I will ring you back! You could also join a "Chillout Art" group session for carers on Monday mornings. Call Lesley.
" OWLS”
" OWLS" will meet for lunch May11th at The Pearl River, Kings Lynn at midday, and June 29th will be The Swan at South Wootton.
We have just enjoyed a lunch at "The Carpenters Arms" . Do have the sticky toffee pudding if you go. It is excellent. Stan and Joan Marmot joined us for the first time....I hope they will be regulars from now on.

While enjoying this year's daffodils, the lovely result of the earlier combined community effort, it was such a shame that in one week the smell of spring(?) was not quite what we were expecting to pervade the village! For a change the sun was shining, but the clothes lines were not enjoying the sun anymore that day and we prayed for the rain to fall! I would think some ears might have been burning!
I noticed the post office was shut on the Monday bank holiday but we were given plenty of warning. I am glad to see how well the family have settled in and we all find them most helpful.
At the heart of our village is the Medical Centre - reading in the press of many practices that are having great problems we are so thankful for the way we are
served here, and trust that that heart will keep going strong!
Polite Notice to Dog Owners
Editor's Note: The following is printed at the request of a local resident.
Please could all dog owners make sure their dogs are under control when out on walks around the villages.
There has recently been an incident where dogs have broken into a garden from fields backing on to it.
While it is enjoyable for dogs to run freely, safety must be the most important factor.Shouldn't dogs be kept on a lead to achieve this?

The Last Word
Archbishop Justin Welby and Prime Minister David Cameron have both been in
the news recently due to revelations about their fathers. DNA testing revealed to
Justin Welby that the one who had raised him as his father was not his real father
at all. His response was naturally one of surprise but also an opportunity to point
out that as a Christian his true identity was as one made new through his faith in
Jesus Christ and adopted by God as his heavenly father. The Panama Papers
revealed to David Cameron that his father was an investor in off shore banking to
benefit his family, which he knew already. His response was to praise his Dad for
care of the family but also an opportunity to say how much he had been hurt by
criticism of his father for something that is quite legal.
It set me wondering how I would react if some private revelation was made about
my father. His portrait proudly hangs on the wall in our sitting room, and I enjoy
seeing visitors and friends glance at the picture then at me and back to the
picture. There is a likeness and I am sure we share the same DNA. But I am not
blind to his weaknesses, as much as I consider him to have been a good father.
One piece of financial advice future history proved to have been hopelessly
wrong! But given the frailty of all fathers I have learnt the grace of forgiving and
the realism of human fallibility.
Today we honour fathers just like mothers with a special day to send a card and a
gift. This is not always an easy day for some who have had an abusive dad, or
never known a dad, often through modern methods of conception. Likewise some
Christians find it hard to know God as heavenly Father. It is helpful to be
reminded that it was Jesus who pointedly taught us what is known as “the Lord's
prayer” for he knew for himself that God is good and God is loving, and can be
relied on in every circumstance of life.
So there is hope whatever revelation of our childhood comes to light or worse is
paraded across the media to sell a few more copies of newsprint or satisfy our
desire for gossip.
