The Story

Now that all four children are in the snowy forest, everyone realizes the trouble they are in: Edmund is a deceiver and the Witch is very dangerous (Mr. Tumnus has been arrested and his house burned). Lucy begs the others to help her rescue the Faun, and they follow a friendly Robin.

Grown Up Thoughts

When Edmund’s betrayal is revealed, his response is not remorse, but a further hardening of his heart against this “pack of stuck-up, self-satisfied prigs.” But is his reaction that unusual? When we’re caught in the wrong and embarrassed, it’s tempting to label our accusers as uppity or self-righteous. This way – especially if we have no intention of repenting – we feel more justified in our wrong choices. Have you seen guilt work that way in your own life, or in your family?
