We believe and practice being fully involved with the communities we serve.
This is essential in building good will, encouraging growth and above all staying connected in our backyard
My Thought For the DayMy thought for the Day: I've named my bathroom Jim. It sounds so much
better when I say I went to the Jim first thing in the morning... Agree...right!
Awell-worn one-dollar bill and asimilarly dis-
tressed twenty-dollar bill
arrived at a Federal Re-serve Bank to be retired.
As they moved alongthe conveyor belt to beburned, they struck up aconversation.
The twenty-dollar billreminisced about its trav-els all over the country.
"I've had a pretty goodlife," the twenty pro-claimed... "Why I'vebeen to Las Vegas andAtlantic City , the finestrestaurants in New York ,
performances on Broad-way, and even a cruise tothe Caribbean ...."
"Wow!" said the one-dollar bill. "You've reallyhad an exciting life!"
"So, tell me," says thetwenty, "where have youbeen throughout yourlifetime?"
The one dollar bill replies, "Oh, I've been to theMethodist Church , the Presbyterian church, the BaptistChurch , the Lutheran Church and a few CatholicChurches .."
The twenty-dollar bill interrupts, "What's a church?"
20 and 1
My dog had followed me to school one day. Iwas in the fourth grad at a public elementaryschool.
However, when the bell rang, my dog slided inside the build-ing and made it all the way to my classroom before a teacher no-ticed and shooed him outside, closing the door behind him. Mydog sat down, whimpered and stared at the closed doors. ThenI remember, God appeared beside the dog, patted his head, andsaid, 'Don't feel bad fella'...they won't let ME in either'.
They Wont LetMe In Either
The Year Is 1910, Over
One Hundred and 3 Years Ago
The year is 1910, over one hundred and 3 yearsago. What a difference a century makes!
Here are some statistics for the Year 1910:
The average life expectancy for men was 47 years.
Fuel for this car was sold in drug stores only.
Only 14 percent of the homes had a bathtub.
Only 8 percent of the homes had a telephone.
There were only 8,000 cars and only 144 miles ofpaved roads.
The maximum speed limit in most cities was 10mph.
The tallest structure in the world was the EiffelTower!
The average US wage in 1910 was 22 cents perhour.
The average US worker made between $200 and$400 per year.
A competent accountant could expect to earn $2000per year, a dentist $2,500 per year, a veterinarian be-tween $1,500 and $4,000 per year, and a mechanicalengineer about $5,000 per year.
More than 95 percent of all births took place atHOME.
Ninety percent of all Doctors had NO COLLEGEEDUCATION! Instead, they attended so-called med-ical schools, many of which were condemned in thepress AND the government as 'substandard.'
Sugar cost four cents a pound.
Eggs were fourteen cents a dozen.
Coffee was fifteen cents a pound.
Most women only washed their haironce a month, and used Borax or eggyolks for shampoo.
There was no such thing as under arm deodorantor tooth paste.
The five leading causes of death were:1. Pneumonia and influenza2, Tuberculosis3. Diarrhea4. Heart disease5. Stroke
The population of Las Vegas Nevada was only 30!
I am now going to forward this to someone elsewithout typing it myself.
From there, it will be sent to others all over theWORLD...all in a matter of seconds!
Try to imagine what it may be likein another 100 years.
Give a boy a fish and he'll eat for a day... teach aboy how to fish and he will smile for
a life time...Owen is the one on the right...

John F. Kennedy held a dinner in the white Housefor a group of the brightest minds in the nation atthat time. He made this statement:"This is perhaps
the assembly of the most intelligence ever to gather atone time in the White House with the exception of
when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
When we get piled upon one another in large cities,as in Europe, we shall become as corrupt as Europe.
~ Thomas Jefferson
The democracy will cease to exist when you takeaway from those who are willing to work and give tothose who would not.
~ Thomas Jefferson
It is incumbent on every generation to pay its owndebts as it goes. A principle which if acted on wouldsave one-half the wars of the world.
~ Thomas Jefferson
I predict future happiness for Americans if they canprevent the government from wasting the labors of thepeople under the pretense of taking care of them.
~ Thomas Jefferson
My reading of history convinces me that most badgovernment results from too much government.
~ Thomas Jefferson
No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms.~ Thomas Jefferson
The strongest reason for the people to retain the rightto keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protectthemselves against tyranny in government.
~ Thomas Jefferson
The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to timewith the blood of patriots and tyrants.~ Thomas Jefferson
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the prop-agation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sin-ful and tyrannical.
~ Thomas Jefferson
Thomas Jefferson said in 1802: 'I believe that bank-ing institutions are more dangerous to our liberties thanstanding armies. If the American people ever allow pri-vate banks to con-trol the issue oftheir currency, firstby inflation, thenby deflation, thebanks and corpora-tions that will growup around thebanks will deprivethe people of allproperty - untiltheir childrenwake-up homelesson the continenttheir fathers con-quered.'

Richard Sher-mans crimeis that he didnt killanyone.
If you werent familiar with Sherman prior to the NFL con-ference championship games last weekend, you certainly arenow. Hes the Seattle Seahawks all-league defensive backwho made the game saving play tipping away San Fran-cisco 49ers quarterback ColinKaepernicks last second pass that catapulted the Seahawksinto this weeks Super Bowl.In a postgame interview withFOX,Sherman responded toErin Andrews initial questionwith what can best be de-scribed as an 18-second rant.
The upshot of Shermanscomments is that he is the bestcornerback in the gamehardly a secret to the expertswho judge such things - andthe 49ers intended receiver onthe play, Michael Crabtree, is asorry receiver. Shermanwent on to say that if Crabtreeopened his mouth again, he(Sherman) would shut it foryou real quick. The trashtalking prompted immediateoutrage from the media andfans, many of whom took to social media to condemn Sher-man in less than flattering terms, many of which containedracist overtones.
What was lost in the initial criticism of Sherman is that he
has a reputation for being a team-first player, someone who
is not only skilled in his trade but, unlike the majority of hiscontemporaries, has a degree in communications from Stan-ford. Forget the dreadlocks. Sherman is an intelligent andarticulate young man who has earned a pass for allowing theemotions of the moment to detract from his and his teamsaccomplishments.
While football fans were fixated on Shermans postgameantics, another event involving a football player was transpir-
ing in Dallas, one that should have registered much higher onthe outrage scale. Dallas Cowboys player Josh Brent wason trial for killing his teammate and best friend, Jerry Brown,on December 8, 2012. Brent was driving drunk and lost con-
trol of his Mercedes while traveling at speeds upwards of 134
miles per hour.His blood alcohollevel shortly afterthe crash was .18,more than twicethe legal limit.The jury con-victed Brent ofi n t o x i c a t i o nmanslaughter andsentenced him to180 days in jail
and 10 years of probation. Two football players, one killed another man,the other
made a game-saving play and then trash talked about it onTV. The former, one of the thousands of drunk drivers whokill and maim tens-of-thousands of innocent victims each and
every year, was given a slap on the wrist. The other created anational furor and was accused of unsportsmanlike conduct, labeled a thug and threatened with his life.
Unfortunately for Sherman, he merely spoke his mind. Forthat, he will be remembered for eternity. Had he committeda crime, he would have faded from memory quicker than youcan say drunk driver.

First found in Orange County, kelp all along the Californiashoreline will be under the
watchful eye of university and gov-ernment scientists.
Researchers from Cal State LongBeach will be looking for radioac-tive kelp along the state's shoreline.
As we like to say, a Penny foryour thoughts...in this case...awhole one penny but a lot ofthought. Penny Arvalo of the
Patch tells us:..."Cal State LongBeach researchers will monitor thestate's kelp forest for radioactive
contamination from the meltdownof the Fukushima nuclear powerplant in Japan, it was announcedtoday.
Traces of radioactive iodine fromthe March 11, 2011, earthquake, tsunami and meltdown were de-tected about a month later in kelpalong the Orange County shoreline.
The ongoing study, dubbed KelpWatch 2014, will examine samplesof Giant Kelp and Bull Kelp fromalong the California coast.
The California kelp forest is ahighly productive and complexecosystem and a valuable state re-source, said Steven L. Manley, aCSULB biology professor partner-ing with scientists from theLawrence Berkeley National Lab-oratory.
It is imperative that we monitorthis coastal forest for any radioac-tive contaminants that will be ar-
riving this year in the oceancurrents from the Fukushima disas-ter,'' he said.
The project includes the participa-tion of 19 academic and governmentinstitutions and three other organiza-tions/businesses. Sampling willbegin in mid-February and will endin late winter, Manley said.

Check out this rare blue sparkler found in a South African mine ear-lier this month.'It's 29.6 carats and about six times bigger than an acorn,' WPBF re-ports. 'Officials haven't put an exact price tag on the rock, but they sayit may be worth millions.'
The BBC reports the dazzling stone was dug up by the New Jersey-based Petra Diamonds at its Cullinan Diamond Mine near Pretoria.
The company gushed about the discovery in a statement releasedTuesday, saying, 'The stone is an outstanding vivid blue with extraordi-nary saturation, tone and clarity, and has the potential to yield a polishedstone of great value and importance.'
Although experts haven't assigned this gem a specific value yet, ifPetra Diamonds' other discoveries are any indication, the rock couldrake in some serious cash.
A 25.5-carat Cullinan blue diamond found in that same mine in 2013
sold for a whopping $16.9 million, andanother big sparkler uncovered in2008, known as the Star ofJosephine, sold for $9.49 mil-lion.
According to Sky News,an analyst suggests thisnewest discovery could beworth between $15 millionand $20 million.
Petra Diamonds chief exec-utive told reporters the com-pany will decide what to dowith the diamond within thenext week."

Light On the WaterGrant Pecoff
surf City culture
Don't miss this one: Show runsfrom January 18 thru February17, 2014. And, thank you Sur-
fwire for keeping us connected to ourlocal culture and heritage as we begin to
celebrate 100 years of Surfing in Surf cityUSA.
Gazing into a Grant Pecoff painting, you are drawn into an atmosphere wherevibrant light and electric colors transformthe familiar into the extraordinary.Pecoff's art is an invitation to slide into astate where we feel alive and awake, intoa setting of passionate depth and radiatingenergy where our hearts and imaginationsare filled with possibilities. Take a tripinto Grant Pecoff's art and share his visionof our magical world.
Pecoff paintscityscapes, coastal views, buzzing
cafes, the people interacting in them and, always, the light. There are such amazingvariations of color within the leaves ofone tree, for example, the light filtersthrough creating cool and warm greens
complimented by the contrast of shadowand light," says Pecoff. His expression oflight as it reflects on water is particularlystunning. He makes the light appear as ifit is dancing on the waves and recreates
the movement of the water using electricblues, rich oranges, and fiery crimsons. His deliberate distortion of images as theyare echoed on the water is whimsical andsurrealistic. John Shore, editor of Dcor& Style magazine refers to Pecoff's com-
positions as dreaming-while-awake oilpaintings."
A native San Diegan, Pecoff receivedhis formal training at the Academy ofArt in San Francisco. He soon realized
that his real classroom was theworld around him. When I was achild, my father traveled to remoteplaces across the globe, searchingfor rare plants, Pecoff reminisces,
His stories of those experienceswere enchanting to me. Hetaught us to notice life around usand to express our feelings. Itencouraged the development ofmy playfulness and imagina-tion. Pecoff has dedicated him-self to traveling the world andfinding the limitless inspira-tion everywhere.
At the heart of GrantPecoff's talent is his ability toshare the way he sees lifewith the viewer. His art callsus in and shows us a newway to experience what wesee. Through Pecoff's
painting, he communicateshe essence of a culture andhelps us to feel the com-
monality we all share. Perhaps it is thisexpression of our universal similarity andoneness which have created such enthu-siasm from collectors near and far forPecoff's paintings. As his work evolves, itis certain to continue to speak to us, toshape us and to influence the way we seeour world.
Who can deny TMX... they say it is so...."Some Say it ain't so ... there's no MuskratLove left for Captain & Tennille ... they're getting divorced ... and the Captaintells TMZ he didn't see it coming.
Toni (Tennille) filed legal docs in Arizona, claiming the marriage was "irretrievably bro-ken." They've been married for 39 years.
If you don't know ... youshould. They had a string ofhits in the 70s, including"Love Will Keep Us To-gether," "Muskrat Love"and "Do that to Me OneMore Time."
They were discovered by
Neil Sedaka at The Smoke-House restaurant in Bur-bank, near NBC.
Daryl Dragon (The Cap-tain) is 71. Yeah, it'sDragon.
Daryl tells TMZ ... "I don't know why she filed. I gotta figure it out for myself first."He also said they're still living together in the same house.
According to the divorce docs, obtained by TMZ, there's special mention about healthinsurance coverage, and that seems relevant, because in 2009 Toni blogged that Daryl hadbeen diagnosed with Parkinson's. In 2011 Toni updated the message, saying Daryl'stremors were so bad he was embarrassed to go out in public ... to restaurants, the movies, etc.
Here's what's unclear -- whether it's possible Toni really filed for health insurance reasons... whether his coverage might be better if they were divorced.
The blog has an update on Jan 16, 2014, saying "The Captain & Tennille appeared to thepublic as them being the ideal model for a 'rock-solid' married pair. But almost all peoplenaturally evolve over time, & sometimes hidden feelings start to be uncovered ..."
It's a sad day for muskrats."

No More Extra Points -Perhaps Next, No More Contact
This idea was just a tad short of changingthe rules completely... what next nomore kick-off...we can just flip a coin
after every 4th down to see who tried again.Tadd Haislop , Sporting News reports..."Ifyou're one who believes commissioner RogerGoodell and the NFL are tampering with thegame of football too much by modifying rulesto protect players, you'll really dislike this one but it' s very interesting.
Goodell told NFL Total Access Monday theleague is exploring thepossibility of eliminatingextra points.
The extra point is al-most automatic, Good-ell said. I believe wehad five missed extrapoints this year out of1,200 some odd. So its avery small fraction of theplay, and you want to addexcitement with everyplay."
Touchdowns would beworth seven points, notsix. Rather than sendingthe kicking team on aftera touchdown, teamswould have a choicewhether to attempt to getin the end zone for a con-version and a total ofeight points. A failed
conversion, however, would drop the damagedown to six points.
It's an intriguing concept and, unless you're
concerned about the preservation of football aswe know it, one that makes a reasonableamount of sense.
Goodell and the NFL seem to have to havetwo factors in mind behind the proposal: enter-tainment and safety.
It's true. Extra points have become nearly au-tomatic, so why not automatically tack seven
on the scoreboard when teams get in the endzone? They won't need to go for the conversionmost of the time. Plus, an additional decision-
making element could be extremely fun towatch.Say a team ties the score with a late-game
touchdown. Does it dare try a conversion andrisk losing a point? Probably not. If the teamneeds eight points to tie, it would go for thetwo-point conversion anyway.
So, really, what's the difference? Many already question
whether Goodell's im-pact on the game is tooheavy, and it's under-standable. The conver-sion (or try) is among theoldest parts of football, dating all the way backto the sport's rugbyroots.
But the game haschanged over time andthe emphasis has shiftedfrom the subsequentkick, which used to beworth more, to thetouchdown.
Remember this, too.The forward pass wasonce just an intriguingidea in football. That'scaught on fairly well.
Anyway, just for kicks:Is this what they call a Hail Mary

Dear EarthTalk:
What is the Obamaadministrations
Americas Great Out-
doors initiative and what does it hope to accomplish?~ Doug St. James, New York, NY
President Obama signed a Presidential Memorandumin April 2010 establishing the Americas Great OutdoorsInitiative to promote and support innovative commu-nity-level efforts to conserve outdoor spaces and recon-nect Americans to the outdoors. The Memorandum callsfor collaboration among the Departments of Interior andAgriculture as well as theEnvironmental ProtectionAgency and the WhiteHouses own Council onEnvironmental Quality inleading the initiative. Eightother federal agencies play
a supporting roleand lit-erally thousands of otherpartners from state, localand tribal governments,non-profits and the privatesector are involved as well.Getting young people, es-
pecially city kids, into theoutdoors to experience ourcountrys unique naturalheritage is a top priority ofAmericas Great Outdoors.
Before pursuing any spe-cific strategies, initiativeleaders solicited feedback from everyday Americans asto what mattered most to them regarding conservationand access to the outdoors. Some 105,000 written com-
ments and many more spoken ones from listening ses-sions held coast to coast streamed in and were crucial
to the development of programs. Public feedback con-tinues to shape the initiatives agenda.
Some of the programs that fall under the umbrella ofAmericas Great Outdoors include: the Veterans Fire
Corps, which employs veterans in forest fire manage-ment; the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Adminis-trations program providing technical training and workopportunities for underserved youth in habitat restora-tion and fisheries monitoring; and the establishment ofa new network of water trails coast to coast to increaseeveryones access to the outdoors.
Americas Great Outdoors was in the news recentlywhen Interior Secretary Sally Jewell announced the
launch of 21st CenturyConservation ServiceCorps as part of the pro-gram. 21CSC, as Jew-ell calls it, aims to be amodern incarnation ofthe Civilian Conserva-
tion Corps (CCC) thatPresident Franklin Roo-sevelt used to help putAmericans back to workduring the Great Depres-sion. Jewell envisions a100,000 person strongCCC 2.0 that will pro-vide opportunities forthousands of youngAmericans6.7 millionof whom are currentlyunemployed or not inschooland veterans
transitioning back to civilian life to serve their country, feel proud of what they are accomplishing and improvetheir own lives and the lives of others around them.
Part of what makes Americas Great Outdoors uniqueis that partners from every sector of American society
not just the federal governmentare encouraged tohelp. 21CSC is partially funded by a $1 million dollardonation from clothing retailer American Eagle Outfit-ters, and Jewell is in search of another $19 million from
other private sector partners to turn the program into apotent force for reducing youth and veteran unemploy-ment while giving our endangered lands and waterwayssome much-needed attention.
Environmentalists may be disappointed that theObama administration hasnt been able to musclethrough mandatory greenhouse gas emissions cuts and
put sustainability concerns at the forefront of the poli-cymaking process, but getting unprecedented numbersof Americans involved in conservation projects that pro-tect the nations treasured natural heritage is a worthyconservation legacy in its own right. The program issure to positively impact generations of Americans fordecades to come.

"I
f a Pinot Noir is overwhelmed with fruit -- or, indeed, by any element, like oak, fruit
extraction, fruit ripeness, or alcohol --you're going to lessen the possibility that the winecan express essential place. And for me, Pinot Noiris all about essential place."
If any grape demands contemplation, it's Pinot Noir. The great ones translate time and place, clearly ex-pressing the characteristics of their vintage and thesoils and climate in which they're grown.
So I wasn't surprised to hear these words from Jas-mine Hirsch, as her father, David, planted what is con-sidered one ofAmerica's top PinotNoir vineyardsnearly 35 years ago.
We were chattingabout an annualwine event shelaunched with Rajat
Parr, a celebritysommelier, in 2011.Dubbed "In Pursuitof Balance," it ap-plauds the Califor-nia winemakers whoeschew ripeness andpower in favor of re-straint and elegance.
The event has helped counteract the notion that Cal-ifornia only makes fruit bombs. And it's brought atten-tion to some of California's top Pinot Noir producers.
In Pursuit of Balance traces its roots to 2008, whenHirsch entered the wine industry by taking over salesand marketing for her family's winery. At the time, shewas living in New York and had fallen in love withPinot Noir, so it made sense to join the family busi-ness.
But the wines that stole her heart came from Bur-
gundy. She was continuously "blown away by whatthey were able to achieve" in France.
When she started working for her family, she begandrinking more California Pinot Noir. Too often, shedidn't enjoy the wines. They were, quite simply, toobig. In ripeness, alcohol, and oak, they lacked the sub-
tlety and poise she'd grown to love in Bur-gundy.
Around that same time, Hirsch developeda friendship with Rajat Parr, the wine direc-tor for the Mina Group, a restaurant man-agement company with a global reputationfor its wine program. Parr was known forhis obsession with Pinot Noir, so Hirschasked him why California couldn't producemore elegant wines.
Parr showed Hirsch that the state could.Indeed, a handful of producers had beenmaking Pinot Noir that achieved the grape'shigher purpose -- translating both time andplace -- for decades.
The two friends soon hashed out a planfor a formal tasting for sommeliers, journal-
ists, and eager consumers. The first brought togethernearly 25 California producers and generated tremen-dous buzz.
At that time, Hirsch said, "California was facing anidentity crisis."
Most oenophiles believed what Hirsch thought justa few years prior: that California wines were over thetop. Parr and Hirsch sought to debunk this notion.
The wines they showcased weren't always popular. Then, as now, the best-known critics gave their highestratings to ripe, powerfully concentrated wines. While
this praise is certainlydefensible, such wines
were the antithesis ofwhat Parr and Hirschlooked for in Pinot Noir.
Naturally, the eventstirred controversy. Bypresenting a limitednumber of producers,Hirsch and Parr created
an exclusionary event. Plus, the word "balance" --which refers to fruit, acidity, structure, and alcohol co-existing harmoniously, with no single element domi-nating -- is a lightning rod. Last year, Wine Spectator'sHarvey Steiman proclaimed that he "[resented] the im-plication that richer, more full-bodied wines can't bebalanced."
Hirsch and Parr acknowledge these criticisms.Today, wineries that hope to join their tasting must firstpass muster with a panel of judges who taste bl ind.
And Hirsch admits that the event might have been mis-named.For my palate, the wines that Hirsch and Parr have
chosen to celebrate are among America's most excitingand delicious. Producers like Copain, Littorai, andPeay make precise, focused wines that are full ofcharm. The wines from Hirsch's own property andRajat Parr's two labels, Sandhi and Domaine de laCote, are similarly stunning.
Pinot Noir is one of viticulture's most fickle grapes. It's challenging and expensive to grow. By bringing at-tention to the California wineries that work hard toachieve Pinot Noir's higher purpose, Hirsch and Parrdeserve everyone's praise.

The National Veteran's Art Museum in Chicago has anunusual work of art which you may not have evenknown existed!
When visitors first enter the museum, they will hear a
sound like wind chimes coming from above them and their
attention will be drawn upward 24 feet to the ceiling of the
two-story high atrium.
The dog tags of the more than 58,000 service men and
women who died in the Vietnam War, were hung from the
ceiling of the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum in
Chicago on Veterans Day, November 11, 2010. The 10-by-
40-foot sculpture, entitled Above & Beyond, was designed
by Ned Broderick and Richard Stein.
The thousands of metal dog tags are suspended 24 feet in
the air, 1 inch apart, from fine lines that allow them to move
and chime with shifting air currents. Museum employees
using a kiosk and laser pointer help visitors locate the exact
dog tag with the imprinted name of a lost friend or relative.

AOL Original and Adam Morath are seeing intothe near future though Google Glass and re-
port..." Our connected devices are typicallyviewed as the root of the distracted driving problem, butwhat if they became part of the solution? A new app forGoogle Glass seeks to do just that.
DriveSafe is designed to help Google Glass wearersstay more alert at the wheel. Users engage the app
through the voice command, "OK Glass, keep meawake." Then, DriveSafe quietly monitors the driverthrough the infrared and tilt sensors built into Google
Glass. If the app's algorithm detects a certain number ofblinks and a head tilt, it issues an audible alert throughthe device's bone conductor speaker and a visual promptthat offers to direct the user to the nearest rest area.
We reached out to DriveSafe's Jake Steinerman formore on what inspired the app:
I live in Michigan, where it can take up to five orsix hours to get to places across the state, and
being that I don't have the greatest driving stam-ina, I have found myself getting drowsy behindthe wheel on multiple occasions. I also am aGoogle Glass Explorer (beta tester), and have
been since June 2013, and often drive with it on,since it stays with me all day long.
Glass, outside of its uses as a neat way to take pic-tures and videos (hands free), also has a number
of incredible sensors on board. Two of those sen-sors are an infrared eye sensor, and a tilt/anglesensor. The IR sensor is located on the inner sideof the Glass hardware, and can detect a user'swinks and blinks. The tilt sensor measures theangle that the wearers head is positioned at, and
is currently used to turn the device on and navi-gate the Glass menu.
I combined my experience behind the wheel, withmy observations and experiences with Glass, andthought of the idea for DriveSafe.
It's fair to say that DriveSafe is a simple idea with astraightforwardexecution. In fact,Steinerman says ittook his team onlytwo weeks to de-velop a working
prototype. But
simplicity is keywhen attemptingto safely integrateour devices intoour driving experi-ence.
"A great UX(user experience)is extremely im-
portant on Glass, especially whenit's being used be-hind the wheel,"
said Steinerman. "Since Glass is positioned above youreye, not in front, it is in your field of view, but not inyour line of sight, you have a clear view of the road at
all times."Perhaps DriveSafe and other similar apps will serveas a model for how our smart devices could actuallycontribute to a safer driving experience. The questionthat remains is whether drivers will be allowed to sporta pair of Google Glass while behind the wheel. Stateslike California have been grappling with the issue sinceGlass was introduced.
"Like any technology, such as smartphones and GPSunits, there's potential for them to be used inappropri-ately and unsafely," said Steinerman. "However I thinkthe benefits far outweigh the concerns, and devices likeGoogle Glass are moving us in the right direction."Ourconnected devices are typically viewed as the root ofthe distracted driving problem,
