What is Peace?

• The absence of war • An agreement or treaty to end hostilities • Freedom from quarrels and disagreement;

harmony • Serenity: peace of mind

Biblical Understanding

• Greek Understanding • The Greek word for peace literally means to

bind together or to weave together

• Hebrew Understanding • The word used for peace in Hebrew is

shalom. This term has deep meaning and coveys a sense of being free from trouble, experiencing the best of life and spiritual prosperity.

Two Kinds of Peace

• World Centered Peace Christ Centered Peace

• Security in this life Inner calm • No needs are unmet Confidence in Christ • No Conflicts Safety for the soul • No Pain Sense of direction

& purpose • No demands Hope within conflicts • Certain eternal life

Why Does Peace Matter?

• Peace is a universal requirement • Peace gives us rest • Peace rebuilds our strength • Peace brings resolution for stress

Trouble is a Fact of Life

• "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." John 16:33

•   • Trouble cannot always be avoided • Trouble has a way of draining our strength • Trouble is already defeated

Trust is the Antidote of Trouble

• "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. John 14:1

•   • Trust is an essential part of overcoming

pressure • Trust begins in the heart • Trust resolves pressure caused by trouble

Tranquility is Promised

• Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. John 14:27

•   • Tranquility is an inner peace that comes

from Christ • Tranquility is a gift from Christ • Tranquility remedies our fears

How to Experience Peace?

• P – Preserve a Proper perspective • E – Express your emotions • A – Accept what you cannot change • C – Call on God • E – Expect God to answer

• Remember that peace is centered in Jesus • Rededicate your trust in Jesus • Receive the promise of peace
