Dear Fellow Members:
Welcome back to Edgewood Valley for the 2015 golf season! The Board of Directors is looking forward to an
exciting year and remains committed to enhancing the member experience, focusing on the attraction of new
members, redeveloping the Edgewood brand, and managing the club’s activities in a fiscally responsible way.
With these principles in mind, 2015 will bring many positive changes to Edgewood Valley. This year the Board
is focused on the implementation of the following initiatives:
1) Hiring a new golf course superintendent focused on maintaining the golf course, greens, and common
areas in a way that distinguishes EVCC from the rest of its peer group,
2) Redeveloping the tennis and paddle complex which will provide the membership with new winter time
activities and improve the visual appeal of the front entrance,
3) Providing a proposal to the membership which addresses the redevelopment of the Crossroads complex,
4) Unveiling new tees on holes 2 and 12, “squaring” additional tee complex’s, fixing drainage issues
associated with the 18th fairway bunker complex, planting more trees in areas affected by the removal of
diseased trees, and other golf related projects as determined by the Board, Long Range Planning
Committee, and the Golf Course architect,
5) Improving the landscaping at the front entrance, clubhouse, pool, pro shop, tee beds, the East border of
hole 10, the 17th tee, and the 18th tee,
6) Surveying the membership on their Dining and Entertainment preferences and defining this area’s value
proposition to the membership,
7) Branding the club with the new EVCC logo,
8) Enhancing the security of the club’s physical structure,
9) Upgrading the club’s software and launching a much improved website which will allow for expanded on-
line and mobile possibilities,
10) Painting and installation of new carpeting in the Caddy Shack and Bag Room, and
11) Developing a concrete plan for the redevelopment of the maintenance facility.
Edgewood Valley is a special place blessed with an outstanding golf course, a thriving clubhouse, an engaged
membership, a strong financial position, and a membership count which is the envy of every club in the District.
The Board is focused on maintaining and improving our enviable competitive position and looking for other ways
to differentiate our club from our peer competitors. I look forward to seeing everyone back for the start of the
2015 golf season!

Dear Member,
We have been open for a month and usage has been
steady on the weekends. Hopefully warm weather is
around the corner, so we can start golfing. Members
enjoyed the dining upstairs and the Members’ Bar was
always full. The menu has been well received, and
we will be switching out some menu items in the next
week. We will begin full service with lunch and
dinner on May 1st. Please use our comment cards to
let us know how your dining experience was.
We added a couple new social events this year,
starting out with an Easter Egg Hunt the day before
Easter. On Saturday, April 25th, we have a Spring
wine tasting with over 100 bottles of wine to taste.
This will be held upstairs and there will be no ala
carte dining that evening. We brought back the family
camp out, which we haven’t had in a couple of years
and hope we get a good attendance for this fun family
event. We are planning a couple more events that are
not on the calendar and will make sure everyone is
aware of them. The Social & Entertainment Calendar
is in the Putter, so mark your calendars.
Soon we will be getting the pool and tennis courts in
shape for the season and getting ready for the
construction of the tennis/paddle facility. Our pool
manager from last year, unfortunately, is not coming
back and we are in the interviewing process. On
popular demand, we added another day (Thursday)
to camp EVCC this year!! On this day we will be
doing different activities along with tennis and swim.
Morgan Meyer will be running our camp again this
year. Jr. Sports sign up is Sunday, April 19th from
4:00PM to 6:00PM.
The staff is excited for the 2015 season, and we
looking forward to seeing everyone at the club.
Regards,
Jon Bailey

Welcome back to Edgewood Valley for the 2015 Golf Season! Let’s put the snow and freezing temperatures
behind us and look forward to a season of great golf and sunny skies. I hope you had the opportunity to enjoy some
golf in the warmer climates over the past few months and are looking forward to a beautiful spring. The Golf Staff and
I are excited to get back into the swing of things and look forward to seeing you soon!
I would like to welcome back Assistant Golf Professional Mike Pariso and our shop merchandiser Marianne
Saso. Mike is excited for his second season here at EVCC and can’t wait to see everyone out on the lesson tee.
Marianne is anxious to get her hands on the new merchandise and display our new club logo. I would like to thank
former Assistant Golf Professional Noel Zimmerman for his time here at the club. Noel was a valued employee and we
wish him the best with his new position at Mission Hills Country Club.
New to the Golf Staff this season is Bill Ventresca. Bill is a PGA Apprentice who was born and raised in Chicago

Psychology and his career has taken him to different parts of the country, working for 2 ½ years at Jupiter Hills Club
and The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, FL, where he developed his skills of delivering exceptional service exceeding members’
needs and expectations. The past three seasons he has served as Assistant Golf Professional at Glen View Club in Golf,

Lesson Corner
If you only have ten minutes to putt before a round, here are a couple tips to prepare you for your day.
- This tip will help you with alignment and keeping your head down through the stroke, all you need is a putter, ball
and a quarter.
Place the quarter on a flat spot on the green and set up one foot behind it. Stroke a few putts and listen to the
ball roll over the quarter (do not watch the ball roll over the quarter, your eyes should still be focused where the ball
originally lied). If you are able to do this without missing the quarter, you can be confident your putter head is square
to your target and your head is not peaking early on your putts.
- This tip will help you with the speed of the greens
Find a spot on the green where you can putt 15 foot uphill putts and 15 foot downhill putts. Simply putt a
handful of times in each direction to help you dial in the green speeds.
Rules Corner
This week at the Valero Texas Open Phil Mickelson hit a fairway bunker shot and after impact his club head
flew off. Under the rules of golf is he able to have the club replaced during a round? What if a player takes a swing and
the club shaft bends on the follow through after hitting a tree, is the player allowed to play with a bent club?
Rule 4-3 Damaged Clubs: Repair and Replacement
a. Damage in Normal Course of Play
If, during a stipulated round, a player’s club is damaged in the normal course of play, he may:
(i) Use the club in its damaged state for the remainder of the stipulated round; or
(ii) Without unduly delaying play, repair it or have it repaired; or
(iii) As an additional option available only if the club is unfit for play, replace the damaged club with any
club. The replacement of a club must not unduly delay play and most not be made by borrowing
any club selected for play by any other person playing on the course or by assembling components
carried by or for the player during the stipulated round.

Membership
Brandon Cady
I would like to thank the membership of Edgewood Valley for continuing to share the benefits of our
outstanding club with your family, friends and colleagues. Because of your referrals, the membership process
is off to a very productive start to 2015. We have added 8 new regular members over the winter months. Not
only has our membership roster remained full, but I’m pleased to share that we have a growing list of SWR
members (wait list for regular membership). As I write this article, we have five (5) approved regular
members on our SWR list and the pipeline activity has been increasing throughout March. We have also
already added new juniors, junior execs and social members to the club during this frigid first quarter.
Edgewood Valley is enjoying a unique position in many aspects including a fabulous golf course, a relaxed &
welcoming family environment, a full plate of fun activities, financial strength, quality dining, and beautiful
facilities/grounds that are only improving with upcoming investments this year. I’m proud to serve our club as
the Membership Chairman and appreciate all of your help in promoting everything great about Edgewood to
prospective new members. The additional revenues captured from new members help fund accelerated
investments in our golf course and club facilities, so please keep the referrals coming!
I would also like to introduce and thank the following members of my committee for their willingness to
support the membership process this year. Please let any of us know if you have friends interested in joining
Edgewood Valley. And, please tell them to hurry since the SWR list is growing...
Nino Alagna Greg Colando Tony Fiscelli
Scott Lundmark Tom Murphy Mark Ptacek
The new member process remains the same this year. We typically start with a phone introduction followed
by an in-person meeting with myself and one or two others from either the membership committee or the
Board. The prospective member completes an application and secures two sponsors from our regular
membership – who also complete a sponsorship form. An introduction summary of the new applicant along
with a family photo is posted in the men’s locker room prior to Board review and approval at the next
scheduled monthly meeting. Jon Bailey and Carole White are always available to provide friendly club tours.
And, Steve Turner provides excellent support throughout the new member process as well.
Social Membership:
The Social Membership program was reviewed by the Membership Committee, Finance Committee and the full
board. The review found that we have been administering multiple social membership plans and that
Edgewood Valley’s Social Membership is priced well below those of other local clubs. The increases described
below bring the social fees into better alignment with our peer clubs around the area and also reflects the
expanding benefits available from being a Social member at our club.
The review included the initiation fee, monthly dues and food & beverage minimums. Effective April 1st and
billed starting with the April invoice, Social Member dues will be $450 per month. In conjunction with this
increase, the $500 annual fee billed to Social Members is being eliminated. The annual food & beverage
minimum will increase to $1500 and the initiation fee will increase to $10,000.
Other dues:
All other monthly dues will be increased by $5 per month for all membership classes except Social which is
described above.
Treasurer Dan Morris
I’d also like to welcome everyone back to Edgewood Valley after a long and at times very cold winter! I’m
eager for spring weather to arrive and the club to be filled with members having fun.
As I write this, the club is finishing another strong financial year, concluding on March 31st. The club will
finish the year ahead of budget, generating an operating profit near $100,000 (exact amount determined by
month end close). Key financial highlights include:
Capital Improvements – The board invested $470,000 on capital improvements & equipment across
several operating departments. Specific examples include:
o Golf course - new equipment for grounds crew, new tee boxes (#2, #12), perimeter screening for
holes #10, #17, #18
o Dining & Entertainment – a new broiler was installed to help enhance the flavor of steaks and
other prepared meats
o Carts & Caddies - 20 new golf carts were replaced as part of our ongoing fleet rotation
o Club Admin
Security System - a new security system was installed to provide better security at the
main entrance and the workout facility.
New Technology – new software used to manage the club has been installed, and a new
website has been developed.
Cash/Capital Balance Increased – The amount of cash/capital in the bank was increased to $2.2M
from $1.6M.
Debt Reduced – The size of the club’s mortgage was reduced to $1.4M from $1.8M. Fiscal year
2014/2015 marked the 3rd
year of the 4 year debt reduction plan.
Entrance Fees :
The entrance fee for Regular Membership remains $75,000 (paid over 3 installments) or $65,000 (paid in full
upon acceptance).
After these changes to the membership fee structure, Edgewood Valley remains one of the most cost effective
clubs in the area. A membership at Edgewood Valley is less expensive than one at Ruth Lake and Butterfield,
while being only nominally more expensive than LaGrange. The board felt these increases were fiscally
responsible considering the club’s cost structure, the investments being made in our facilities/amenities, and
the value delivered to members.
SWR Playing Privileges :
The playing privileges for members on the wait list have been enhanced to allow improved access to the
course Tuesday – Thursday and weekends after 11 am. The growing list of SWRs at Edgewood Valley shows
we are a preferred club and serves as an important source of strength for our future.
I look forward to seeing you at the club!
Brandon Cady(cadybw@gmail.com)
April 1st starts a new fiscal year that promises to be even better financially. The club’s healthy membership
rolls continues to be the primary factor driving our success. We expect this healthy membership position to
continue, and we start the year with a full membership (316 – Regular, Veteran, and Honorary) and a waiting
list (5 SWRs).
The fiscal year 2015/2016 budget reflects:
Revenues $ 6.1M
Operating Expenses $(5.5M)
Capital Improvements/Equipment $(0.5M)
Operating Gain/(Loss) $ 0.1M
The capital improvements this year will again cut across multiple operating departments. Board approved
investments includes golf course improvements, updates to the landscaping around the clubhouse/pool
house/pro shop, new kitchen equipment, new golf carts, new G&G equipment, updates to the tennis courts, and
some preventative maintenance to the main clubhouse.
The club’s balance sheet will also improve during the year:
Long term debt will be reduced to $800,000 by year’s end.
Cash/Capital in the bank is projected to be near $800,000. This lower balance reflects that the new
Tennis/Paddle Complex is complete and paid for in this fiscal year. It’s worth noting that when the
Tennis/Paddle project was presented to the membership in August 2014, we had projected a
cash/capital balance of $400,000 when this project was complete.
New Technology
The staff is quite busy during the “off season”; this year was even busier with the creation of a new website
and the installation of new software used to manage the club. I want to acknowledge the work of Steve Turner
who led both of these efforts. Quite simply he did a great job.
Jon Bailey and Carole White also provided a lot of input into the design of the website, content for many web
pages, and feedback/review as we worked through the development cycle. I think you’ll be pleased and
impressed by their efforts.
I also want to thank two members for their contributions. First, Dave Duerr (Straight North), provided our web
designer/developer Natalie Berberet. Natalie’s contributions were invaluable and impressive, especially since
she was “moonlighting” with Edgewood while serving Straight North clients during the day.
Second I’d like to thank Ray Pirello (Pirello Digital Imaging), whose team has supplied the beautiful
photography used throughout the new website. Ray and his team have taken some amazing photographs of
Edgewood Valley. Their talents and work product truly show the club in its absolute best light. When you see
Ray and Dave around the club, please take a moment to say thanks for their contributions.
Grounds Superintendent
Bob Lively
Dear Membership:
As I gaze out my office window while writing this letter (Friday, March 27th) I see a fresh dusting of
snow covering the golf course. The forecast looks cold for the next few days but a warm-up coming
early next week. We have been busy getting the golf course ready for the coming season. Yesterday,
3/26, we slit-seeded, over-seeded, aerated, top-dressed, rolled, fertilized and covered greens 3, right
half of 4, 6, 12 and 13. We will be monitoring soil temperatures daily going forward taking the covers
on and off as needed during warm days and recovering them for the evenings. I expect a full recovery
of these greens this spring, and we should be on them sometime in early to mid-May.
We are also in the process of grading the tops of the tee boxes on holes 2 and 12, and we will be sodding
them ASAP, and we expect them to be ready on or about the same time we open the 5 greens that we are
nursing. The shop yard is also being cleaned up quite a bit as well as the shop buildings themselves. We
will also be addressing the bunkers as well everything from sand depth to cleanliness to ensure the
proper firmness and try to eliminate the fried egg lies.
I'm really looking forward to a great season here at Edgewood Valley Country Club, I'm excited to
work with a very energetic Board of Directors, a great Head Golf Professional in Chuck Kletcke and his
professional staff, as well as Jon Bailey and his Clubhouse staff. As always should anyone have any
questions or comments, please don't hesitate to contact me. I can be reached at 708-906-8817 or
kcaj@sbcglobal.net
Regards, Bob Lively
The new software has also equipped the club to better serve the membership in a couple of ways, direct debit
payments and e-statements. Direct debit gives members the ability to pay your monthly bill automatically. If
you wish to take advantage of direct debit, contact Steve Turner to complete a required form.
The other feature now available for member convenience is e-statements (electronic statements). Starting with
the April statement (goes out the end of April), we will begin to send monthly statements to members
electronically.
Look for a special communication from the club soon with more details and instructions regarding the new
website, direct debit and e-statements.

Ladies 18 Hole League Chairman
Lori Oestermeyer
Welcome to all our 18 Hole and 9 Hole
Ladies League Golfers!
This year’s theme for the 18 Hole League is
“Gifts of Golf”
Our gift this month is our “Volunteers”.
All of our Board positions and our Special Events
throughout the season are made possible thanks to
all the wonderful ladies that generously give their
time and talents to make the Ladies League possible.
We are looking forward to a fun season with
Opening Day on May 12th, chaired by
Sue Burgess and Penny Wolf.
So come out and join us and enjoy all the
“Gifts”
EVCC Ladies Leagues have to offer!
Entertainment & Dining
Phil Saran
First of all I’d like to introduce the Dining &
Entertainment committee for this year: Kevin
Condron, Bob Harris, Larry Inzano and Tony Maffia.
Here is an update on what we were doing this off
season:
1. Survey results—Thanks to the 161 members
who completed the survey.
2. Some key take aways from the survey: In regards
to service, 86% of the respondents were satisfied or
very satisfied with the service provide.
3. In regards to food quality: 73% of the
respondents were satisfied or very satisfied with
the quality of the food served.
4. Menu choices—66% of the respondents said we
offer the right amount of food choices.
5. 63% would like to see the upstairs open on a
limited basis. To this point we did open the upstairs
in March, April and we were jean friendly. Look for
the upstairs to be open more this season.
On a cold, blustery night in January, 8 brave
members participated in a steak taste testing meal.
Chef Jim brought in several purveyors of steaks.
After careful deliberation we decided to go with
Allan Brothers Meats. Allan Brothers provides
meats to most of the major steak houses in the
Chicagoland area. During the tasting we uncovered
some faulty kitchen equipment, which caused the
cooking staff not to be able to use the broiler to its
fullest capacity. New kitchen equipment has been
ordered. Bottom line: try the steak, we have
upgraded the quality of meat and with the new
equipment it should be cooked properly. Your
feedback is appreciated.
Some changes and additions for the upcoming
season:
We have increased the entertainment budget this
year. Yes, increased the entertainment budget.
That said we have hired the Gentlemen of Leisure
as the summer party band, I’m sure some of you
have heard the Gentlemen of Leisure play at
some fund raising event or a wedding over the
years. Save the date, July 25th.
The Adult Candlelight Dinner is no longer. Due to
the declining attendance over the past few years,
it has been replaced with a Holiday Ball, the first
Saturday in December is the new date, December
5th. This will be a formal dinner/dance with
another high end band, City Lights providing the
entertainment. Save the date, December 5th.
The Family Candlelight Dinner is still on the
calendar.
Feedback, good or bad, please fill out the forms
after an event or dinner. Jon, Carole and I read
every one of them.
A complete entertainment calendar will be out
shortly. We hope you enjoy the club this season.
Phil
Tennis Professional
Dan Shoop
So excited to start playing outdoor, clay court tennis
soon at Edgewood Valley this spring! Seeing the
buildings bulldozed in February was amazing as we
look to start a new chapter in Edgewood racquet sports.
The drawings of our new facility look outstanding and
state of the art. Through this change we will serve the
membership with a great tennis program and top notch
clay tennis courts.
The 2015 Tennis brochure will be available on our new
website. This will contain Adult and junior Tennis
programs, interclub match schedule and special events.
We are planning on opening the courts for play by the
1st weekend in May, weather and construction
permitting. Once the courts are playable, please contact
Dan Shoop at shooptennis@gmail.com for an
evaluation and placement.
We have Friday, May 22nd, and Friday, May 29th, for
junior evaluation placement days from 4 to 7 p.m.
Please contact Dan to secure a time slot.
Junior group lessons will start Monday, June 8th.
Friday, June 10th, from 5 to 7p.m will be our first
Novice match of the year.
Friday, June 12th, our first junior conference meets at
La Grange Country Club.
Monday, May 18th, Ladies drills begin 9 to 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday, May 27th, Official Ladies Opening Day
10:00a.m. to noon (Luncheon following play)
Friday, June 12th, Couples Margarita Mixer

Par Club

Edgewood Valley has a long standing tradition of
supporting the Evans Scholar Foundation and 2014
was no exception. Between contributions to the Par
Club, our annual Par Club event and other fundraising
efforts EVCC members contributed over $100,000 to
the Evans Scholar Foundation in 2014.
This past December Thomas Mihalkinan was awarded
the Evans Scholarship and will be attending Purdue
University to study Civil Engineering. That brings the
number of active and alumni Evans Scholars from
Edgewood Valley to one hundred and ten.
The Par Club Committee met in late February to begin
preparing for our annual Par Club Day and other
fundraising initiatives. One of our goals is to achieve
100 percent voluntary participation in the Par Club.
As you are aware a few years back EVCC adopted a
policy whereby each member is billed for the Par Club
with an option to opt out of the program. Our current
participation rate from regular members is
approximately ninety five percent. If you have opted
out in the past, please consider making the voluntary
donation this year and help us meet our goal of one
hundred percent participation.
Thank you for your continuing support of the Evans
Scholar Foundation.

PS. Please mark your calendar for our annual Par Club
Day on Sunday, June 28th. It's a great event and if you
play like Ed D'Onofrio and Dave O'Neill did last year
you may win a trip to Pinehurst!
