News, Notes, Nonsense, and NothingsDespite the 10+ inches of fresh-fallen snow and a parking lot plower that made us all fear for our safety and the safety of our vehicles, 19 hardy Rotarians found their way to last week’s meeting and enjoyed Teriyaki Chicken, fried potatoes, salad, and cherry cobbler. Our group of 19 included perennial favorite Dick (Chief) Bell. We were told that of the three groups scheduled to be at Julia’s that day, only Rotary did not cancel their meeting.
Unfortunately, it was soon apparent that our speaker and host did not get the memo that the meeting was on, so SAA Rick was given extra time to entertain the troops.
Dick said that there is nothing new at the WR club and he had no idea how the mouse derby went, having not attended.

Jane went to visit Jill. Jill is Jane's only husband's mother-in-law's only husband's only daughter's only daughter. What relation is Jill to Jane.
Wendell announced, however, that the WR club had agreed to support the Columbia project that we have been organizing.
Paul has readjusted to the new location and is now arriving again at his usual time.
Eric “accepted” “nomination” as president-elect and was unanimously elected. Those campaign dollars really paid off!
Rod brought a make-up from Vandalia, but not much news from there.
Eric and Paul both reduced the deck by one card, but left the $32 in the kitty for this week.

River Cities Jazz, a 19-piece band based in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, USA, toured the United Kingdom, France, and Switzerland in late June and early July 2010, performing nine concerts that raised about $20,000 for Rotary’s US$200 Million Challenge.

“After the baby was baptized, her four-year-old brother was crying inconsolably in the back seat of the car. "What's the matter Johnny?" asked his concerned mother. Johnny replied: "that man said that he hoped our baby would be raised in a good Christian home...I just want her to stay with you guys."

Jazz Festival, one of the premier jazz festivals in the world," says band leader Mitch Biba, who plays trumpet and flugelhorn and is a member of the Rotary Club of Wisconsin Rapids.
By staying in Rotarians' homes, band members got a true taste of other cultures and formed new friendships, he adds.
The only Rotarian in the band, Biba says he got the idea for a jazz tour to benefit PolioPlus while leading a District 6250
Group Study Exchange team to the Philippines in 2009.
"I met Les Wilson [Rotary Club of Maghull & Aughton, England], team leader for a District 1180 GSE in the Philippines at the same time. One of our discussions included his district’s fundraising dance for polio eradication," Biba says.
