Gary Blackwood

• Gary Blackwood was born on October 23rd, 1945 in Meadville, Pennsylvania. He grew up in Cochranton, Pennsylvania and attended his earliest years of grade school in a one-room schoolhouse. He graduated with a B.A. in English from Grove City College in Pennsylvania and after that his amazing career as an author began.

Awards and Other Books

• Gary Blackwood has received four awards such as Best YA Novel,1st prize for Attack of the Mushroom People, 1st prize for Dark Horse, and Best Book for Young Adults. He has written more that eight other books including Wild Timothy, The Dying Son, and Moonshine.

Summary

• When an outbreak of the deadly Black Plague closes the Globe Theatre, William Shakespeare’s acting troupe sets off on a trip of England. The main character Widge, decides he wants to go on the trip to England. He will find conflict with other actors that he cannot control, but must to stay in the troupe. But when he finds a man who claims to be his father his whole life takes a turn for the worse.

Black Plague

• The Black Plague, also known as the Black Death was one of the deadliest pandemics in human history

• It is caused from a bacterium called Yersinia pestis

• It started in Central Asia, then it reached Crimea, and from rats on ships the plague spread

• It killed 30% to 60% of Europe’s population, reducing the world’s population from 450 million to between 350 million and 375 million
